MPG Happy Talk

Recommended Posts

That's ok it was last night around 8:30 PM and I only got 49.3 ;) driving to work this morning.

People don't like to drive in the rain I guess so I290 was really slow this morning and I got a lot more EV which did offset the water resistance.

I'm assuming it's a relatively flat area where you drive?

Well that depends I would say yes but there are some ups and downs but nothing significant compare to other areas of the country.

It's more downhill to work therefore usually better MPGs.

Oh ok. So is your commute home a lot worse when it comes to mpg? What app is that you're using to track that? I used Google Earth to track my work commute but I like that your app shows speed.

The app is Ski Tracks. Works well. A number of us have used it.

Like HB said the app is Ski Tracks. I recently found another app that could add data from the OBDII. There is a whole section about tracking and conclusions.

During summer the difference is about 4-6 MPG in favor of driving to work. With cold temps in the morning I could usually beat driving to work by 2-3 MPG due to the warmer conditions in the afternoon.

Well I did a lot better going to a customer site.

Nice brake score and MPG. It's funny to to see that as soon you are at 50% EV miles or better 47 MPG is pretty much guaranteed.

After a year and 4 months I think my car and I are finally past the 'Break-in' period. It's never been so easy to get good numbers.

Like today, even with that bad brake score, over twisting hills, freeway and busy traffic areas it just keeps surprising me.

It is very good weather here now, but it was good last year too and this car just would not produce these numbers so easily.

Ever since I bought the ESP extended warranty it must feel at home and finally decided to be a good FFH- LOL! ;)

Today I thought for sure it would be under 40, lights were against me, I just ddn't feel like playing the game, thought for sure it sucked up gas. I got a 93% score, along with 43 MPG. I was surprised.

Yesterday though, I had a really good trip.

The car is almost at 50% EV. only off by 1551 miles. Total EV 9000.9. Too many hills and highway miles for the perfect 50% bracket, but still doing better than the BD ever did. No complaints!

I can easily and routinely get 46 MPG around home, and as far away as a 20 mile trip. My wife on the other hand, who does not hypermile at all, has been getting 60 MPG on her trips to and from the gym! It's killing me. I don't know how she does it. It's level driving, and about a 2 mile trip, with up to 3 stop lights, or 2 and a stop sign.

Could be still warm after you drove home having it nicely warmed up for her.

Can she meet my wife for coffee? Maybe some of that will rub off.

This weekend the weather was 40+ degrees and I managed 48 mpg going out over a 23 mile route and 51 mpg coming back.

In the right conditions the mileage on this car is simply amazing.

I'm hoping to see my lifetime mileage start ticking upwards again soon after the winter caused a 1.1 mpg drop.

I have posted before about how getting stuck at the red lights ruins my mpg. On this trip home from my dad's house, every light was green all the way home. I used ACC at 45mph the entire time, followed by a 2 mile highway trip at 60mph. I had to take this picture, what a beautiful sight seeing all portions of the 1/2 hour trip at better than the average mpg for the tankful, currently at 44.3mpg. The mpg for this trip was 51mpg over the 23 miles.

Very short trip, but at least 1/3 to 1/2 of it uphill. Why can't I do this on a regular basis! It was 60F when this happened, so obviously that was a huge factor. :skateboard:

I hate to be mean but I just went a round thru the StoneMountainPark GA. 25 - 30 MPH speed limit ups and downs and this result. It's soooo much fun to pass pedestrians and cyclist in stealth mode ;)

Gotta love seeing the mild weather return... the Energi is rated lower then the hybrid in MPG (Energi rated 43, hybrid rates 47), but still a good day -

64 miles @ 80 MPG (OK started with the full Energi HVB)

42 miles @ 54 MPG (didn't use the Energi HVB, saved it for the return trip)

42 miles @ 101 MPG (had lots of help from the Energi HVB)

62 miles @ 55 MPG (slow traffic on the PM commute always helps MPG)

7 miles @ 72 MPG (included my favorite 5/8 mile downhill so that skews things)

So throw out entries #1 and #3 above since those were using the Energi HVB, and the others were with the HVB empty and running in hybrid mode... not as good as the hybrid used to get on similar trips but still darn good!

Exhibit A for my case that there is no break-in period with these cars/engines ;-). Note the mileage.

So if you are in GA, I wonder who that was in the RR FFH that almost rear ended someone at 31 & 62 because they were looking at my shiny nice MKT.
