2013 Hybrid MPG Results

I just bought a 2013 ford fusion hybrid last week and so far my mileage is quite good. I left the dealer registering at 19 avg and it is now past 42 and climbing. My trip meter is even better since I tried it once over the past couple days and it is registering over 47mpg. I drive differently than the way I drove a gas version but I keep up with traffic and anticipate lights. i get most of the regen energy also. The car is extremely quite and smooth. When driving down the highway I rarely notice when it switches between ev and gas.

Taking my car in Tuesday for a "Fuel Economy Test" ... can't wait to see what they get... I told them about acdii issue and solution but the dealership wont pull the plugs and replace them without going throught all kinds of hoops.... I hope this gets fixed soon.. I am averaging 30.1 MPG in my FFH 13 ... I REPEAT 30.1 MPG

Thought acdii said somewhere his plugs were 'fouled'. If the plugs were fouled, there is most likely a condition that caused them to be that way and any new plugs will also be fouled. no new car should be building deposits on the plugs. if the ice is running rich theres a lot of problems that could cause it, but a MIL would be thrown if a sensor was reading out of spec. if theres no light and its fouling plugs, i would suspect a software issue. i would think the dealer would tell you if cylinders were misfiring though.

It took 4500 miles before finally throwing a code and it was multiple misfires. Thats when they found the fouled plugs, but because the computer shows everything in specs, no problem found.

My first tank of gas is half empty...300 miles and I'm getting 44.5 mpg average. I'm hopefully ill get up to the 47 mpg number as I drive it more and it get broken in.

 

So far I'm happy with the performance. I'm still waiting on it to go into ev+ mode though only way home. I think I might be the problem though. I have to turn my car off to get the mail before parking for the night and I don't work at the same location everyday.

 

Hopefully someday soon I will see EV+

My EV+ turned on for the first time today, about 1/2 mile from my house... so as others have said, takes about a week's worth of repeated behavior.

The results of my 3rd tank. The pump shut off at 11.1X gallons, and I pressed the pump until it clicked off again (about 0.5 gallon) for a total of 11.6X gallons put in the tank.

Check this out. I drive like a nut, flooring it, not caring about EV, speeding over 64 MPH and get 34 MPG. Drive VERy conservatively, not exceeding 2000 RPM, maximizing EV mode, and only get 41? 7 MPG difference? Seems just strange.

I've found that temperature make a huge difference. Back home in Minneapolis in temperatures between 0 & 20 degrees we were getting around 40 MPG max in the city and on the highway. Right now on vacation in California where the temperatures are around 70 degrees our gas mileage has consistently been around or above 50 MPG both in the city and on the highway. A couple of examples can be seen below. I'm very impressed with the fuel economy of the Fusion Hybrid! I'm now confident that once the temperature increases back home we will easily achieve 47 MPG and even more.

I'll admit I was getting a litle discouraged the last three weeks with the cold weather (our pool still has a layer of ice on it in the morning) putting my MPGs into the low 30s. But the last two days we've seen mid-60 temperatures and all my commutes have been above 39.0 mpg. Today I set the cruise control on 70 mph and the 10 mile trip to work (80% hwy) got 40.3 mpg. This is the MPG I expected and was hoping for. My drive home last night at 65 mph got 42.3 mpg.

Even driving up and down the mountains in California we're averaging over 40 MPG combined up and down. Going up we'll get around 20 MPG even with constant climbing, and then get almost pure EV mode on the way down. That's much better than I expected with serious mountain driving.

Yesterday I had a fully charged battery before leaving from work. For my 10.9 mile trip I managed 54.1 MPG! This is by far the best millage I have ever achieved in any car. To top it off, today I did my first (parcial) fill up. After 213 miles of driving I only put 5.98 Gal in the tank. Wow, 20 bucks what a great feeling. I love this car!

I just finished checking Fuelly and it really is not looking too good for the Fusion right now. The average is down to 36.8 out of 35 cars, and compared to previous years, is under by as much as .9 MPG. That is not very good for a car rated at more than 11 MPG highway than the previous years. It isnt just the hybrids either, the non hybrids are also far under previous years gas engines, by at least 4 MPG.

 

Funny thing, the ones reporting over 40 MPG all frequent this board, I see very few with low MPG that do.

Why do they have a Hybrid category and a Hybrid L4. What's the difference?

How do I find my build date? On the sticker inside the driver's door I only saw 11/12 for build date, not the specific week. I know that the dealer told me that our car was built the week of 11/26/12 but it would be nice to confirm that based on the VIN or something.

Fuelly has some flaws...for example it calculates your average by summing your tank averages and then dividing by the number of tanks. This is not accurate. It really should sum the miles from each tank and then divide by the sum of the gallons. Their approach leads to smaller fill-ups having a larger impact on that average number than tanks where you went more miles before filling up...

Go to www.etis.ford.com and input your VIN, your build date will be on the top right and the date format is opposite of what you're probably used to seeing.

Hmm, I do notice a difference between Fuelly and Fueleconomy.gov. My 2010 is at 39.7 on that one, the 13 at 36. True average is miles divided by gallons, not per tank, but overall. I do that on spreadsheets to get the actual numbers, but per tank is good to see if there may be a problem, like bad gas, or low tires.

Go to www.etis.ford.com and input your VIN, your build date will be on the top right and the date format is opposite of what you're probably used to seeing.

 

It says my VIN cannot be identified...

I think the issue is with etis.ford.com because I pulled up a VIN from a local dealer and entered that VIN and got the same message. So the issue appears to be with the site

Yep I guess it's time for server maintenance etc... I also got the below message:

 

"If the VIN you have entered is correct, then the reason you are seeing this page is because OASIS® is not available at this time.

Please try again later or enter a different VIN."

Etis goes down for regular maintenance. When I was searching for my car it was about once a week.
