I was 40 years in IT and spent a good couple hours with the manual and the car going through EVERYTHING. I figured out what I wanted on the cluster displays and set them. I went through the tutorial that is in the left screen of the cluster. I went through all the settings in the center stack and learned what buttons to push for what ... Then I started driving it like I stole it! Seriously ... 2-1/2 months and I have over 6000 miles already! Good road car for the trips I take and really good on gas. Have fun!

Suggestion ... if you haven't done so - and are wanting to understand more about your car - might I suggest looking through this thread? It's got a lot of the answers for "how does this work?" type questions along with technical stuff. I've done a pick and choose on the materials and it's helped a lot!

Flat Tire Issue/Concern - Spare Tire Installation
Cobra348 replied to securityguy's topic in Wheels & Tires
Within the last 4 years both my son and I have had sidewall or bead/rim leaks that slime/goo/fix-a-flt could not fix. Mounting the donut that came in the car, got us to the shop for replacements quite nicely. Construction areas (active or recently finished) can have debris that kicks up and slices the sidewall. Last year alone I drove through several of these areas on I-81, I-77 and I-26 simply going from NY to FL. I am willing to take the risk and have a donut in the car. Oh, and to whomever stated sensors aren't that expensive ... $66 for a Fiesta replacement (installed - $50 or so for the part). Go check Ford Parts catalog and see what they are ... Fiestas are about $95-98 for valve, cap and sensor the last I looked. -
All I gotta say is be very careful. Sidewall blowouts can happen just hitting a pothole wrong - and slime/goo/fix-a-flat does not work in those cases. Donut spares do.
-
You also need what is called an assembly box. It's just a formed foam piece to hold the jack and wrench under the spare ... and it has a hole in the center so the fastening bolt can lock it in place. With the parts list in that thread, the "order part #" is what the parts guys at the dealer can use to locate things if you go new. See hybridbears response to you ... he is correct as there is quite a chat about the risks involved. I and some others have decided the risk is worth the feeling of security if we are on road trips. I myself cannot see the damned sense of having to shell out for a valve and sensor in addition to a tire when it gets punctured. That's an extra $65-$90 expense on top of the tread! Nope, no way.

Buying a Hybrid: FFH vs HAH vs TCH
Cobra348 replied to mrcultureshock's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Yup - the steps ptek documented are exactly reproducable in my '15. When I get a chance I'll run thru a bluetooth/sync call and see if it screws it up then. FordIVTeam: The thread linked in hybridbears note here has all the data needed for SCR (Software Change Request). If all you need are the car/owner details I'll be more than happy to put my hat in the ring! I retired from 40 years in IT as programmer, database admin, project lead, shift supervisor and more. I know this is something that needs fixing in the code. Dealers cannot help us until there is a patch/update for MFT itself that incorporates the change. -
Buying a Hybrid: FFH vs HAH vs TCH
Cobra348 replied to mrcultureshock's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Yeah - I too have to use MFT for the controls ... and the heated wheel. What I REALLY dislike is that I set the speakers for Surround and they pop back to Stereo! Not right away and in fact I can go for days without it happening. I can stop for something and get back in the car ... >BAM< stereo instead of surround it was on just moments ago. <sigh> -
Here's the shopping list and a thread on the 16" Donut Spare. Photos are included but once you read the instructions, you'll see exactly how this is setup. I bought all new parts - Ford and Tirerack (the tread), then did the swapout at Goodyear after they mounted the tread for me (and as they did my strut tower brace and hood struts). I did keep the original Ford goo and compressor though. My cost for all new was $518 with all taxes and shipping. You can save some if you go to a junkyard ... you want a 2013 gas Fusion (I believe).
-
<chuckle> While I waited for my car I read like hell all that I could here AND snagged a PDF of the Owners Manual. I spotted the sensor damage/replace warning and immediately grabbed the 16" donut shopping list.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I followed the suggestion in here to go thru EVERYTHING on the various screens using the manual - at least twice. Was worth the couple hours spent, trust me. Two months and 1 week after purchase, I've racked up a lot of miles, but it's a dream car to drive in. Total miles: 5262.2 Lifetime MPG: 44.6 This fill MPG (today): 523.4 miles, 11.002 gallons = 47.57 MPG Todays fill was perhaps premature as I had 75 miles to empty, but knew I had about 80 miles to go and didn't want to push it. Impressive car and you picked a good color!

Thanks. I kind of figured that, but other discussions in here made me question if I was tracking things correctly. I'll keep on doing what I have been then!

Windows got tinted today
Cobra348 replied to higheroctave32's topic in Glass, Headlights, Fog lamps, Lenses & Window Tint
This is NY law ... Can I have tinted windows on my vehicle? It depends. Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window. This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle. If the vehicle is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible, the rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window. It is illegal to sell, offer for sale, or install glass that does not comply with this law. It is illegal to operate a vehicle with glass that does not comply with this law. If you have a medical condition that requires you to have tinted vehicle windows, you can request an exemption from the law. Request form MV-80W from a DMV Office or Call Center. = = = = = What this doesn't state is that the full windshield cannot be tinted but only about 6" strip at the top. I'm considering tint as the interior has been rather hot a few times so far. -
This may have been just beat to death, but I just gotta ask ... when I fill up, Trip 1 is my tank-to-tank record. Now it shows, miles driven, ev miles and more. My question is regarding these 2 numbers. If I were to figure miles per gallon, I simply divide the miles by gallons and I have the answer. How does ev miles play into this? Latest fillup: 504.7 miles 246.8 ev miles I am assuming that this means I drove 504+ miles with PART of it being 246+ on electric. Wouldn't that then mean that MPG would be (miles - ev miles)/gallons? I'm curious and I would like a nice easy formula for MPGe if you have one.

I've been seriously toying with a total debadging of the thing. First, the HYBRID tags on the doors do look strange as was pointed out. And I think that at least on Tux Black as I have, the removal of more of the glitter only makes it look better. As noted, light usage of a hair dryer or heat gun and some monofilament line should do the trick with a bit of cleanup afterward. Quite a few Fiesta owners debadged their cars and most times it looked a lot better. Also, I get a lettering set out of the deal if I do it right! ;)

Buying a Hybrid: FFH vs HAH vs TCH
Cobra348 replied to mrcultureshock's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Okay - as a comparative rookie in here (I've had my FFH for 2 months) I see that you're looking at appearance, ease of use (at least infotainment), quietness and mileage. I would add just overall fit and finish (outside and in) and perhaps cargo capacity (see below). My FFH is the first hybrid I've ever had and I didn't even consider any others other than to compare pricing on comparable setups. Ummm, Ford won in that category too. Plus I was coming from a Ford 4-banger (Fiesta) ... so I'm prejudiced. I would think that other than fit/finish consider what you will be using it for ... long trips, city runs for groceries, etc. If trips where luggage for multiple persons is being taken, consider trunk space as well. But ultimately you are looking for a car that fulfills YOUR needs. Again, I'm prejudiced ... get a Ford. No issues with my car as yet ... lifetime MPG is 44.4 with a high MPG of 48.19 on one tank. This is for slightly over 4700 miles in the 2 months. -
I believe this is a dual-purpose. This is theory only ... First the covered side acts as a grille blocker. Second, I believe some sensors or something may be mounted behind there - on the radiator bulkhead or somewhere. Me? I noticed it but just shrugged my shoulders and went on with things.

What did you cross shop your FFH with?
Cobra348 replied to machoman1337's topic in Competing Products
Ford got my vote after 40 years of other cars in 2010 when I got my first Fiesta (an '11). Eventually I had 2 '14s in the drive and one of them was traded for the FFH. I did not bother considering any other hybrid - not for a moment. Several reasons: 1. My brother has a '12 FFH and loves it. I wanted a crack at topping his mileage numbers. <shrug> 2. The looks of the FFH versus everything else ... stands out and draws the eyes quite rapidly. 3. Color and options are far better than others in it's class - gas, hybrid or plug-in hybrid. 4. Standard features top everything else in class as far as I can see. 5. Ford took no bailout cash when they could have ... that brought me back to Ford and has kept me here. -
Hadn't tried that TBH. I've been using A/C to cool the cabin with the seats on cool as well. Once the cabin is reasonably cool, I shut off the A/C and only go with the seat cooler. Frankly I'd rather have the cabin generally cool as well. I'll give your idea a try.

I just took a look and tried the "see if this fits your car" thing and it tells me these don't fit a '15 Fusion. Is it lying to me? <hopes so>

Auto headlights too sensitive?
Cobra348 replied to jadei's topic in Glass, Headlights, Fog lamps, Lenses & Window Tint
I've had them turn on going thru a bank teller drive-thru. On the AUTO setting they are typically DRL (daytime running lights) so some illumination is there to warn oncoming vehicles. The overpass must be dark enough and long enough to trigger going to full headlights. I personally would simply go with it ... if the overpass is that dark full illumination must be needed somehow. -

I might have missed that ... can someone verify? I don't want to give a new owner wrong advice. -

Missed a problem with my idea and Energi. Deleted my post. -
Yup ... not the greatest pic of the car ... Car hadn't been detailed yet so the tires look crappy. They're the factory Michelins. Factory rims will get snows on them when the time comes. Also ... grille before: And grille after:

This is what's on my FFH. With Tux Black they look pretty decent - even dirty. These 5-spoke ones just don't float my boat at all.
