Installed Hitch for Bike Rack
Cobra348 replied to jeffo65's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
I can report that there IS a trunk rack that will work on the FFH! My girlfriend and I picked up a Saris Porter 2-bike rack. Out of the box, it will not work, however there are straps with a dumbbell shaped padded weight on one end called Hatch Huggers that can replace the lower straps on Saris Porter or Bones (possibly Thule or Graber as well). The weighted ends drop into the trunk, tighten the lower and upper straps then setup the side straps. Works like a champ. It took about 10 minutes fiddling around at her bike shop with the guy and we found the solution. Next weekend we're going to try it on her Camaro although I think the rear deck panel (with the plate on it) is too shallow. Altho that car has a lip we're going to try with the Hatch Huggers any way. So, now I'm off to drop a line to Saris as a gal on their site asked about fitment of the Porter on her '15 Fusion. -
Installed Hitch for Bike Rack
Cobra348 replied to jeffo65's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Question ... are hitch racks or roof racks the ONLY option we have? Aren't there any trunk racks that will work? I'm thinking particularly of the Saris Bones model. Although our trunks don't have a metal lip under the rear license plate that hooks can use, mine at least has 4 slots in the underside of the rear deck edge. Can a strap hook be slipped in there to anchor the end of a trunk rack? Then the lower straps simply wrap around the edge and the rack goes into place as expected - leading edge and side straps as needed. Anyone know at all? The Saris site for their Porter rack just said it can't work because no lower lip to hook ... but I think those vent slots or whatever might be the trick. -
Yup ... my thoughts exactly. With a bit over 8900 miles since mid-April I have a lifetime MPG of 45.4 right now. Most tanks are 41-46, but I have had a couple tanks over 48. These numbers are based on gas receipts at the time of purchase. For such a heavy car (as compared to a 2600 pound Fiesta), this is awesome mileage. I can easily top 40 MPG in the Fiesta but it is a lot more work to do so than with the FFH.

I'm at something over 8900 miles and have noticed that as well. TBH I believe it's normal. It's not a huge surge (or whatever you want to call it) but noticable. I can also feel when the ICE cuts out as well. I thik you get attuned to these things.

<chuckle> Me neither ... my Fiestas broke me of the need for the BLIS. They're standard with the spotter mirror setup and I simply stayed with it on the FFH.

Properly adjusted mirrors and head swivel covers it nicely. I have little to no blind spot - with the standard mirrors/spotter combo but always do a quick actual look before moving to the side. My Little Fiesta is the same ... virtually no blind spot.

Hackers Remotely Kill a Jeep on the Highway
Cobra348 replied to hybridbear's topic in News & Reviews
I'm thinking any vehicle with Wi-Fi ability might be vulnerable if it is on and active. That's not a "good thing" at all. I checked and Wi-Fi in Nytwing is off/deactivated ... whatever. It ain't gonna be used ... just like home network is hardwired, not wireless. Old-fashioned, but secure enough to make me happy. -

Article I saw was that the techniques used work only with Uconnect and Sprint cellular service. But I wonder how long until we're all in some sort of trouble. -
Nope - no issues at all. Wierd.

Red LED panel on top of driver side dash?
Cobra348 replied to jsd3024's topic in Advanced Driver Assistance Technologies
As hermans stated, if your dealer doesn't know find another - QUICK! I will tell you (from experimenting) that when that goes off, you're pretty close to a collision from the car standpoint and you will have NO DOUBT at all that it's going off! -
Yup - that's my assumption as well. Time is kind of interesting in seeing how long it took to rack up the mileage on the trip meter. Other than that I dunno ...

MKZ and FFH in one (require Photoshopping?), but I'm good with any colors on either as long as they are not both the same color!

I have found the Amazon link to be flaky. It will tell me they don't fit, but if I open the same link from a different post, they do fit. Newegg has the exact same item for $20, free shipping AND I have purchased all sorts of stuff through them. So that's where I'm gonna get mine.

A rather frustrating buying experience so far...
Cobra348 replied to toofas's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
I scoped out/used Ford.com before even going to a dealer. It allowed me to explore all the options in the FFH SE and Ti lines. I knew going in what I wanted and needed to see if it would work. HyTi trim allowed me to get everything I wanted. A little bit more cash and some stuff I wasn't thrilled at getting but it turns out some of my preconceptions were wrong and I'm glad I did what I did. Now, wheels ... I ordered a set of 17" Verde Regency rims from TireRack to use with the factory tread in non-Winter months. The factory rims will be shod with snows when it comes time to get them. I also added some Steeda parts and got me a donut spare. Added costs but for everything I wanted. You have to ask yourself what you REALLY are wanting to use the car for and how you want it set up. As pointed out, rims are easily swapped out and for an area where snow falls, the 2-set swap like I do may be the way to go. Here's my FFH with the current non-Winter rims and OEM Michelin tread. As I recall, with TPMS sensors mounted and the drop-shipped to local Goodyear store it was $725 or so incl. s&h. EDIT - original link to rims was not working - got one that does (to Photobucket) -
Goodyear has a Road Hazard Warranty you can purchase. It covers whatever tires are on your car when it is used. Part of that warranty is free rotation, pressure checks and other services. It can be pricy up front, but should you need to replace a punctured tire, you can save a lot of cash. It's especially nice when you do something like I do - 2 sets of rims/tires for non-Winter and Winter use. The warranty switches to the mounted set ... and the set swaps are free. NOTE: It will even cover OEM tread that may not be a brand they sell.

Welp, Ford QA site stated "in production" on 3/16 which is the same date as on my sticker. These are the stage dates from that site: Date Status 02/06/15 Order Processing 03/16/15 In Production 03/25/15 Awaiting Shipment 03/26/15 In Transit 04/13/15 Delivered 04/14/15 REALLY delivered <== my comment So you're saying that my car was actually produced on Mar 23-24?
-
Funny, my build date IS on the window sticker - Mar 16, 2015 - which coincides with info I was getting from Ford qa web site. Look on bottom of window sticker where dealer identification numbers are and it will be there ... at least on '15s. EDIT: My car was factory order and not off the dealers lot prescoped. That may make a difference.

Inconsistent difference between displayed and actual mpg
Cobra348 replied to mwr's topic in Fuel Mileage
I've never trusted the car computer for accuracy but what I know is that my average MPG from receipts so far is 44.1 and lifetime MPG of the car is 45.2 - only 1.1 off. Trip meter MPG varies widely so I discount it. I do have to say that the FFH computer seems to be less deviant than the Fiesta one which is nice. -
As of fillup yesterday, 6154.5 miles, 48.72 MPG on the tank (603.5 miles) and lifetime MPG of 45.2. Doing nicely I think.

While it may be easier ... looking at the printed word and not being able to actually touch the switch/contact is a lot different. That's why manual and manipulating the things is recommended. However, I have a PDF of the manual and with a printer handy, I can hardcopy excerpts and do things that way.

Yup. As for the antenna, I have no problem in car washes with the stock unit. I did consider a sharkfin style but there are areas I hit now where Sirius drops completely (heavy tree cover mainly) and my girlfriends Camaro drops even worse (sharkfin on rear deck).. I'll stay stock I think.

New member in the club! Fill up this morning - But rather disappointed to learn FFH has only a 13.5 gallon tank now ... the '12 my brother has is 14.5. Gonna be damn tough to get well over 600 miles on a tank. Phooey. BTW, flipped to zero miles to empty as I rolled to the pump. Lifetime MPG is 45.1 as of this fill.

Weathertech - there are a couple clips for the rear deflectors/visors, but other than that they slip in nicely. AVS has double-sided tape or something that requires the windows up for a period of time as it sets. Weathertech has none of that at all, although I do recommend keeping the windows up for several hours to get the things to set into place properly. I just had the Weathertechs put on because I drive with the windows cracked a bit. Invariably I get rain water or splashup from traffic right thru it and into my face. Now I don't sweat it at all. Weathertech installed ...
