I believe Rob has a 2013. Didn't he also need to have his eCVT replaced once under warranty?

Recall 15S14 - Steering Gear Motor Bolt Corrosion
hybridbear replied to hybridbear's topic in Recalls, SSMs & TSBs
Interesting points regarding the comparison to Takata. Did the push to replace airbags in all states ever win? I think Takata won that fight to isolate the recall to certain states. We don't even know what Ford will do for our cars yet. All the dealership bulletin says is that they should spray rust-proofing stuff on the new cars on their lot and that in June they'll be told what to do with cars already on the road. -

Huh! I learn something new every day! I thought those 5-spoke wheels were 17-inches. -
Thanks for confirming what I was understanding. It seems that models redesigned for MY2016 will get it in MY2016 but cars redesigned for MY2017 (like the Fusion) will get Sync 3 then.

Interesting! The 2013 FFH with Appearance Package came with 17-inch 5-spoke rims. Which rims do you have? Your Fuelly badge picture looks like 5-spoke rims... -
If you believe the dealer broke it you can escalate the issue at the dealer. Each dealer should have a fund for such issues to keep customers happy. The dealer may be willing to replace your fob out of that fund. You will likely need to escalate the issue beyond the SA, though.

SSM 45080 - 2013 - 2015 Fusion, 2014 - 2015 Fiesta, MKC, MKZ, and 2015 Mustang, F150 Vehicles May Be Put Into Dynamometer Mode (Dyno Mode) Inadvertently Customers may inadvertently enter Dyno Mode. This can occur with Key on, EngineOff and actuating certain controls such as shift to reverse, clutch, brake, and accelerator. This can result in temporarily displaying ABS lights, Traction lights, and Brake Service Messages with no related symptoms or Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Dyno Mode is exited when the vehicle is driven away with all messages turning off. Manual Transmission vehicles are more susceptible to this condition. Should this occur make no repair attempt. Return the vehicle with an explanation of the issue and assurance that the vehicle is performing to design intent.

SSM 45081 - 2013-2015 Fusion/MKZ, 2015 F-150, 2015 Mustang, and MKC-Reverse Park Aid Camera Active Gridlines Inoperative After Battery Disconnect Or Component Service Some 2013-2015 Fusion/MKZ, 2015 F-150, 2015 Mustang, and MKC (Auto-Park only) equipped with a Reverse Park Aid Camera may have the Active Gridlines missing or inoperative after a battery disconnect, module disconnect, or module replacement that is associated with the Reverse Park Aid Camera system. Operation should return after the vehicle is driven straight on a flat/smooth road at 20 km/h (12 mph) or more with minimal steering input for 30 seconds. Abort this step at any time to maintain safe driving. Workshop Manual section 413-13 Pinpoint Test Y (Fusion), or Pinpoint Test D (Mustang, MKC, MKZ) have been updated with this information. If still inoperative, it may be necessary to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes with the driver’s door open, then drive the vehicle for 5 miles in normal city driving before performing the above procedure.

There is a new recall: 15S14 Steering Gear Motor Bolt Corrosion This appears to affect all 2013-2015 Fusions & MKZs built at Hermosillo. The date range shows: 2013 Job 1 through March 20,2015 for MKZs and March, 19, 2015 for Fusions. Owner notification will happen in June. Currently dealers are instructed to repair any unsold vehicles following instructions provided by Ford. At this time there are no parts or instructions available to repair vehicles that have been sold. Those instructions will be provided the week of June 15, 2015. The instructions currently provided to dealers just call for rust-proofing the bolts already installed on the cars on their lots. It's possible that instructions for vehicles already on the road will include part replacement. This recall applies to the affected vehicles originally sold in, or currently registered in the following states: ConnecticutIowaMinnesotaOhioWisconsinDelawareMaineMissouriPennsylvaniaDistrict of ColumbiaMarylandNew HampshireRhode IslandIllinoisMassachusettsNew JerseyVermontIndianaMichiganNew YorkWest VirginiaAffected vehicles are identified in OASIS. Sorry the state list is in a goofy order. Ford had the data in a table that went down then across alphabetically which didn't copy well to the forum. REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL In some of the affected vehicles, when operated in high-corrosion environments associated with road salt use, one or more of the three steering gear motor attachment bolts may fracture due to corrosion cracking. If this occurs, it may result in a loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. The mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the road is maintained at all times. The steering system will default to manual steering mode, allowing the vehicle to be steered in a safe and controlled manner. Recall 15S14.pdf

I use the Meguiars leather cleaner to clean the seats and then I follow that up with the Meguiars leather conditioner. I decided to buy the 2 products instead of the 1 combined product since the cost per ounce difference was negligible and I expect that using 2 specialized products will work better than 1 product that was compromised to perform 2 functions. I find that the Meguiars leather conditioner seems to soak into the seats pretty good. They're noticeably softer after using the leather conditioner and they make a squeaking noise as you slide across them. I will also rub the damp cloth around the steering wheel as well to keep it soft.

I thought you had indicated that it happened at the same spot on a certain road every time. -
Why wouldn't the fob be covered under the ESP? Would it have been covered under the original 3/36 warranty?

I thought the Appearance Package had 17-inch rims... AFAIK only the 2013-2014 HyTi and FFH SE with optional 18-inch wheels have the larger rims and the Goodyear (or Crapyear as acdii calls them) tires. Starting with MY2015 all FFHs come with 17-inch rims and the LRR Michelin tires. The 2013-2014 Fusion Energi did not get the 18-inch rims, all Energis came with 17-inch rims and LRR Michelin tires. -

With a 99% Lifetime Brake score we wouldn't notice if the pedal was spongy or if there was vibration when braking since we're only using the brake pads below 7 MPH or so... -
First week with my first hybrid. This car kicks @ss
hybridbear replied to Trout74's topic in Fuel Mileage
There are many threads about tank capacity. Check out some of those. It is common to see the DTE come on very early. You can possibly use Engineering Test Mode to read the fuel level percent to see how that correlates. There is a thread about ET Mode as well. -
Exactly! This is why I turned off EV+ after I figured it out. With EV+ on the HVB would be very low and we'd end up with the ICE idling away while stopped at a traffic light to leave our neighborhood. With EV+ disabled I could control my SOC when coming home to make sure that I'd have enough to get out of the neighborhood before activating the ICE. Once we turned on to the 40 MPH main road then I'd start the ICE. By using the block heater the ICE would be warm enough that it would turn off by the time I had to slow down and stop for the first red traffic light.

Your car didn't qualify for the 10/150 CARB warranty? I know someone had thoroughly researched this but I'm still confused...
-
That isn't Sync 3. Sync 3 will be very different. I think Sync 3 doesn't come out until 2017 cars.

When you turn off the car you will see two MPG displays, one that is your Trip Summary and the other which is the Lifetime Summary. You also have an MPG display which is visible on the Empower, Engage, Inform, Enlighten & MPG Graph screens which can be reset at any time using the left "OK" button. Finally, there are two trip meters which show MPG. Be sure to turn on the "Advanced" view to get more data. The Owners Manual explains how to reset these screens. Check out the videos on the Ford Owner website for more info about the dash screens as well.

What speed provides the best mpg on a flat road?
hybridbear replied to Drag Limited's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
Remember that the OP has a 2012 FFH so his powertrain design and maximum EV speed are different than what most of us know in the 2013+ FFH. Exactly! -

I took more pics of the Focus Electric today. My wife was driving the Fusion Energi and wasn't home from work yet when I got home this afternoon. All have tangible ridges. Some more so than others, as you can see in the photos. Left front Left rear Right rear Right front -
Dashcam Videos of Bad ICE Drivers
hybridbear replied to darrelld's topic in Lounge - Off Topic Discussion
The truck seemed to be gaining on & passing the semi so it doesn't appear he did anything wrong. If I had been in the position of the truck I would've definitely slowed down when the Camaro began his stupid maneuver. I also don't think the semi driver should have to slow down because of lunatics around him. The real question is speed and speed limit. Many semis around here speed, often doing 65-70 in a 55 MPH zone just like the rest of traffic. If the semi & pickup were driving right around the speed limit then they're ok. Edit: I just watched it again and considering how the Camaro almost caused an accident at the beginning with the truck, I would have gotten out of his way ASAP & called 911 with his plate number. -

hybridbear replied to nv rick's topic in 2013-2016 Fusion Hybrid
I agree with this completely! The service support has been awful. I think Ford rushed the new Fusion to market without working out all the bugs. That's why there have been so many recalls, TSBs & SSMs. Just check out those 3 threads to see how many issues affect 2013 Fusions, particularly Job 1 Fusions. Our first FFH, the black one we special ordered in October 2012, got great MPG, Lifetime > 45 as you can see in Fuelly badge below, but had so many other problems. In the 11 months & 18,000 miles we had it the black FFH spent 28 nights at the dealer on 9 different occasions. The list of things that needed repair were in the dozens. We had many electrical issues with that car and ultimately Ford replaced the PCM but things were still goofy. I calculated what we would get if we successfully won a Lemon Law claim according to the MN formula and determined that it wasn't worth fighting a Lemon Law claim to potentially have less than $1000 extra in our pocket versus just trading it in. So we traded it in for the white FFH. We attribute many of the issues to the fact that it was an early Job 1 car. It was pretty basic, only the Luxury Package, moonroof & back up sensors for options. We didn't have MFT or any of the advanced safety features. Even without all the extra complication we still had nightmarish issues. The white FFH got significantly worse MPG because it had the 18-inch tires. Because of this I was never satisfied with it. If I had known that the 18-inch tires would make such a difference I would not have gone for it. But, at that time, we hadn't yet figured out just how much worse the MPGs were with the 18-inch tires. The drop was >10%. While that didn't really turn into a whole lot more fuel consumption, it was still very frustrating. The white FFH had only one issue outside of things addressed by TSBs & SSMs, the 120V outlet in the rear seat came loose. This car was a Job 2 car. Because of the MPG dissatisfaction I was never happy with the white FFH. That's why I was so happy to stumble across the Energi. In the end the swap of the white FFH for the white FFE didn't cost us anything after factoring in the tax credit. We are very happy with the Energi. It has no issues outside of items addressed by SSMs or TSBs. It was an early Job 2 Energi, no Energis were built in Job 1 except for special test cars used by Ford and later sold to the public as used vehicles. I currently have a list of 8 TSBs/SSMs that apply to our Energi and need to be applied to the car. Some will cancel each other out because they call for updating the same module to the latest calibration so it really isn't that many updates that need to be done. Only one calls for replacing parts and that is the trunk torsion bars (TSB 13-05-18). The only thing the Energi is lacking is the capacitive touch moonroof buttons which were eliminated after Job 1. We had them in the black FFH and loved them. We never had any issues with them like others did. I thought they were a very futuristic design in a futuristic car which made it all the more cool. My wife questioned why we would ever get another Ford after all the Fusion issues and the answer was simple. The Fusion might have many more maintenance/repair issues than a Camry Hybrid or an Accord Hybrid but it also has better features and better looks and better value. You can't get as many features for an equivalent price in a Camry Hybrid or an Accord Hybrid. Specifically the Lane Keep Assist. Few other manufacturers offer a system that actually steers the car. This was a key factor for me. It's a shame that Ford didn't better promote the Fusion with these features when it was first released because when it came out in 2012 there was no other midsize sedan that offered active park assist, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, collision warning, auto high beams, rain sensing wipers, etc. Not the Camry, not the Accord, not the Altima, not the Sonata, none! But Ford stupidly never advertised these features. Will the replacement for the Fusion be a Ford? Right now I'd put the odds at <10% chance. I have no loyalty to Ford or any other automotive brand. I will buy whatever brand of vehicle offers the best combination of features & value. I will definitely never go back to anything other than a BEV or PHEV. At this point, I would guess that we'll keep the Energi at least 8 years. The Focus is a lease and will go back next summer. If I had to choose today I think we'd probably end up with a Kia Soul EV to replace it, Nissan Leaf as second choice. While I love the Focus Electric and say that it is the best car I've ever owned, I would not get another one. Ford has not improved it since 2012 and now it's quite old compared to the other BEVs out there. I would not currently recommend the Fusion (gas/hybrid/Energi) to anyone either for that same reason. The Fusion is old technology now. Right now if someone is looking for a hybrid I'd recommend the Accord Hybrid or the new Malibu Hybrid, or a PHEV like the Volt. It's a shame that Ford has steadily removed data available to the driver from the displays of the FFH. This is another major reason why I would not recommend it. I guess I kind of rambled here...And went off on a tangent or two... Overall, I'm satisfied with the Fusion Energi, but I would not recommend that someone buy a new one at this point, only a used 2013.
