  1. I think this is a NHTSA requirement for safety recalls. I don't know if it would impact used cars.
  2. I thought we had a CarMax thread but I cannot find it now. This article talks about used car dealers selling cars with unrepaired recalls. It specifically focuses on CarMax. http://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1098707_is-carmax-selling-unrepaired-recalled-vehicles-you-betcha---and-so-are-other-used-car-dealers
  3. I know this is true of Certified Used cars, is this true of all used cars?
  4. The 2013 has the Lifetime Summary screen and will report gallons of fuel used. The 2015 has user configureable DRLs, the ability to show fuel economy data on the right dash screen and no reporting of gallons used or a Lifetime Summary. Those changes in features from year to year would have the biggest impact on my decision. $8000 is a lot of money to save by going with the used one if you're comfortable with its condition. It is beyond the bumper-to-bumper warranty... I'd be really interested to see what the Lifetime Summary shows on the 2013. If you have a chance to drive it/look at it again I'd take a pic of that to post. Seeing that data can tell you a lot (if it hasn't been recently erased).
  5. We have never found that the Energi gets worse mileage. Even on long distance road trips we can get better MPG in the Energi by using the wall charged portion of the HVB to help mitigate the ICE warm up penalty by not engaging the ICE for the first time until on the highway. If you do any driving through the mountains the larger HVB of the Energi will allow you to store much more electricity than the hybrid which increases MPG.
  6. You would definitely use less gas with an Energi. For example, a 40 mile trip in your hybrid would use approximately 1 gallon of gas. But that same 40 mile trip in an Energi would only use about 1/2 gallon of gas because you'd be able to go about 20 miles on the HVB charge from the wall. We recently did a 600 mile weekend away road trip in our Energi and only used 7.5 gallons of gas because of being able to do lots of charging along the trip.
  7. We have those three plus 15S14 (steering gear motor corrosion). This is getting quite old... What was the emissions recall that was done back in the fall of 2014? Edit: it was 14E02. Now this is another emissions recall... I don't like when they reprogram the PCM because it wipes out the Lifetime Brake Score & Regen miles along with the ICE start events counter...
  8. This should be covered under the 8/100k hybrid components warranty.
  9. If your car is still under warranty it should be no problem for the dealer to fix it. Other members have commented about having this happen a few times over the years but it doesn't seem to be a common issue.
  10. It's the position of the stalk. If the stalk is in the lowest position the system is off. If it's up one level it's on rain sensing, up two levels is constant motion and up three is high speed constant motion (fastest setting). You can also push down and release when in the off position to get the "courtesy wipe".
  11. My first car was a 1998 Chevy Lumina. It was a hand-me-down from my uncle and the only thing we paid for it was the amount they had to spend on repairs to get it running so they could give it to me. It had just shy of 200k miles and had something wrong with it because I couldn't crack 25 MPG even cruising on the highway. I kept a spreadsheet in it for tracking MPG. The engine compartment also smelled very strongly of gasoline. In the ~10 months & ~10k miles I drove it we had to spend thousands of dollars on it to keep it running. I wasn't sad to see it go. Mine was maroon with the maroon cloth interior. Luminas of this era also had lots of brake light problems. For example, when braking with my turn signal on only the high mount brake light would work. When braking with no turn signal the brake lights would only sporadically work, but the high mount brake light always worked. Almost all Luminas I still see around on the road today have this same problem. Did yours have this glitch too?
  12. I'm somewhat surprised at the number of people who have positive feelings about Ford because they didn't take bailout money. I also respect Ford for that and it was part of our decision process. I respect Ford for that not from a "waste" of tax money perspective but more from a business practices perspective.
  13. I agree. I don't trust the auto headlights unless it's completely dark outside. We always turn the headlights on manually in dim light situations. I also manually turn my lights on when approaching a tunnel rather than relying on the auto lights. There's a tunnel I drive fairly often near downtown Mpls and most cars with auto headlights from all companies turn on the headlights about 100 feet before exiting the tunnel. What a waste!
  14. I don't know if the hybrid does this, but the Energi varies the fan speed based on vehicle speed. When idling the HVB fan speed will drop to 1000 RPM. When moving the fan speed will increase to around 2275 RPM at highway speeds and around 1750 RPM when driving in the city.
  15. We don't usually find the fan noise noticeable inside the car. If you stop and open the trunk you can clearly hear the fans even at their lowest speed (1000 RPM).
  16. The warmer the outside temp the warmer the car will let the HVB get. I remember seeing this behavior somewhat in the FFH and it's more apparent in the Energi which heats up the HVB a lot when running in EV mode. On days that were in the upper 70s the car would let the HVB get up to 96.8 before turning on the fans to cool it.
  17. Does it happen when turning? Acdii had an issue with his car when slowing down & turning.
  18. Check out this thread: http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/5940-toyota-camry-hybrid-vs-ffh/
  19. You're right that the cycling of the ICE on & off at highway speeds is inefficient. This is exacerbated by the increase in max EV speed from 62 to 85 from summer 2013. MN is also very hilly and I'll still drive 65 but I'll use my foot on the accelerator to keep the ICE on when I don't want it cycling.
  20. The worst is accidentally hitting the EV button and putting the car into EV Later forcing the ICE to come on when you don't need it. My wife has done that a few times unknowingly...
  21. If it happens on roads with really bad potholes then it is relatively normal. We have some concrete roads where the gaps between the sections of concrete are now 3-4 inches wide and as deep as the slabs of concrete. If braking hard (near the regen limit) and I go over these bumps it will feel like the car is sliding because when the tires lose contact with the pavement on the bumps the wheels lose traction.
  22. Good idea! We compared the FFH & Camry Hybrid before settling on the FFH. We didn't consider any other cars. The other option we considered was just keeping our 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid. However, it was getting up there in miles and we calculated that if we kept it another year we'd have to spend thousands in routine maintenance just to keep it in good working order & we didn't want to continue pouring money into old cars like we had been doing with the previous older cars we had owned. There also was something to be said for the desire to own a "new" car versus having one that was 6+ years old.
  23. I would look at the Energi. With the short trips you mostly drive you would be able to go many months without buying gas just like murphy. I don't know how much you do long distance (100+ mile) trips, but if you don't do that very often then you could even look at a full electric car. That would allow you to make longer trips (up to around 75 miles usually) without using any gas. The Fusion Energi usually can get you around 20-25 miles of electric range.
  24. If this is a continuation of the issue that you reported & had a repair attempted on before the 3/36 warranty expired it may be covered because you originally reported the problem before the warranty expired. I would ask Meagan about that.
  25. I don't like letting the WT get that high. Once it gets up that high the ICE behavior changes and it goes into the pulsing mode that has been discussed previously.
