Well, I finally reached the BIG 5-0 on my displayed lifetime MPG average, in the dead-middle of the desert summer heat even. :woot:

 

After reading the posts on this forum before I got my FFH in early 2014, I was just hoping I could get 45 MPG, with a stretch goal of possibly reaching 47 MPG.

 

My corresponding calculated lifetime MPGs are at 48.3 at 16,248 miles, and still climbing. :bliss:

Well, you sound busy putting miles on the car and keeping things running.

Two sets of tires and rear brakes? Start another topic about that, it would be interesting... Have you used your spare tire yet?

Have only had the car a couple weeks. 840 miles and my view shows 54.4. Is that the lifetime reading? Do I have to be careful not to reset that or does it not reset?

You should read the manual on how to reset it. If you never reset it it becomes useless and never changes. I reset my "Long term fuel economy" in my 2010 at every oil change and write the figure in the maintenance log section.

Well if thats the case how do all these guys have "Lifetime" readings? Are you telling me Lifetime means between oil changes?

My 2014 has 2 trip meters and #2 has never been reset, I use #1 for
resetting.
I also have scangage which keeps track.

I never paid attention to all that is shown, I know it shows the current mpg etc for each trip when you turn it off.

As long as I don't reset trip #2 I always have the total miles/gas used/hours/mpg

Ive had mine since Feb 2014 and have less than 8k miles on it. But I have to drive it up/down 1400ft every time we go out. Then its mostly stop and go.

So my lifetime is around 37.7

My 2015 appears to display lifetime miies and mpg on the far left of the left screen in all veiwing modes. It's not Trip 1 or Trip 2 (which can be reset) so I assume it's lifetime.

Can you show us a photo? I don't think the 2015s have a life time display (at least not like the 2013s do). The "life time" nomenclature was also removed from our 2015 owner's manual.

 

On mine, to the best of my knowledge, you get three separate MPG metrics. One for trip 1, another for trip 2, and a third that is displayed and is common across the empower and engage displays (maybe some other displays also). This third MPG metric is reset when you press and hold the "OK" button on the left steering wheel controls while displaying the empower or engage displays.

 

If you have never previously reset this third metric, then it is effectively a life time MPG reading for you. I always reset that one everytime I leave the garage to measure how I have done on that drive.

I wish like Hades I could get some of your MPG numbers. I live in Memphis, yes it's 110 right now and humid as anything, but doing my best and being as patient as possible it's hard to get 40mpg. Memphis isn't flat but we have small elevation changes and as soon as the car is pointed up the engine kicks in. I've tried accelerating in EV mode while going downhill to coast uphill and it works sometimes but always the engine kicks back in.

 

Mine will run in EV mode till about 1/4 battery, then the engine kicks in. I long and slow break, coast downhill, coast uphill, and still I can't get some of y'alls MPG.

 

Must be my patience.

It's really none of of my business, but anyway I'll suggest that you thank your AC for making that 110-and-humid air comfortable and consider a few less mpg as well spent. Our climate here is quite moderate, and if AC is on (it often is in the summer) the outside temp is in the 70s or 80s (a very few times 90s) and always dry air. Winter is usually 50s to 60s. Hence those mpg numbers even though it is very hilly here.

No. If you never reset it, it's actually your lifetime measure. You can use use the trip meters for longer term measures, too.

Probably no right or wrong way to do it. Ford gives us lots of flexibility that allows us to manipulate those three MPG numbers anyway you like. I like to use Trip 2 for long trips (like last winter's trip to Florida). I use trip 1 one for each tank of gas and reset it each time I refuel.

Texasota hit on the reason why I reset this one so often. In the Energi we use Trip 1 for each gas tank & Trip 2 is reset monthly to track monthly electricity, gas use & miles. In the Focus Electric we reset Trip 1 monthly & Trip 2 every 1000 miles when the odometer shows xx,000.

I get it. I've never reset mine and don't evne know how to, whick\h is fine with me. It's sort of interesting to me to see the overall mpg.
