2013 95k+ mileage drive it like I stole it more times than not and my lifetime average right now is 39.3

I have a 2013 ford fusion hybrid and currently my MPG is 43.6 and the mileage is 39891.7. When I bought my car in September of 2013 it had 10,500 miles on it already with a 34 MPG average. I am just wondering how everybody else doing on there mpg.

 

I just bought 2014 Fusion Hybrid and I can't get MPG to beat 34mpg on avg. I turned off AC and reset on the highway. I still can't seem to avg more than 34mpg. I was very careful not to accelerate much and I could not get good performance. Any ideas?

I have a 2014 Fusion Hybrid it just turned 5000 miles and MPG is 45.1. My commute is 25 miles each way and is mostly back roads 40-45 MPH speeds.

Mackx534, Did you have to get new software at any point? I just bought a 2014 Hybrid with 9k miles on it. I reset the MPG and have been driving. I seem to be around 32mpg on avg and I am driving very carefully. It is has been hot since I bought it (AZ temp around 100) so that may be a factor. Just wondering if you updated software.

If you have the AC on full blast, that will kill MPG. There are some threads here that describe ways to work around the AC drain and improve MPG in hot climates.

I have a 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid that we bought at the end of 2013. Me and my wife have put nearly 50,000 miles on it since then and our lifetime average is barely 34 MPG. I really thought we would get better than this especially from all the great numbers I've sen on here. We live in Oklahoma so we get fairly hot summers, pretty cold winters, and fairly nice spring/fall temperatures. We don't hot rod it but then we don't drive like grandmas either. I have noticed that if we only drive in town, we can get a little over 40 MPG sometimes, but the majority of our driving is split highway/city. Usually, we average about 32-34 MPG on the highway (70-80MPH) I'm beginning to think we could have actually done as well if not better with an ecoboost fusion? I really like our fusion, but a little disappointed in the gas mileage.

I have a 2014 and live about 3 miles at about 800ft above the river, so when we drive its usually down the Mt and around the small city and back up the mountain. We haven't taken any trips. We get around 37.5 in the summer and 34 in the winter. The wife goes to the senior center 3 times a week. We have less than 10,000 miles on it, bought around Dec 2013 I think.

Just wondering... Why did you buy a hybrid? At that rate, I'm not sure you'll ever see a return on the monetary investment. Was your motivation just to be greener? Curious.

There's no doubt in my mind that you really need to learn to drive these cars to maximize efficiency, and you will quite likely have to make some compromises to achieve even the EPA numbers. Bottom line is these cars are much more sensitive to a heavy foot. You've got to be willing to back off the speed and acceleration a bit. You will not get EPA results at 70-80 MPH.

I'm talking specifically about recouping the additional money spent for the hybrid option. I can't remember the exact numbers, but I remember calculating the projected savings over time based on using less gas, in order to justify the additional cost. My ballpark was that it would take about 3 years to recoup, based on my commute and the price of gas at the time.

Exactly! And I whined about no longer being able to save as much $$$. ;) No worries, though, as I'm sitting a hair over 48 MPGs lifetime, which sure made me feel a little guilty when Ford sent that check (not really), thereby reducing the amount of time it'll take to recoup my investment!

It also depends on what you spent in the first place. I got the backup camera, rear warning system, gps, and sports package for $26,200.

Like Eds2014FFH said, on a recent trip to Nashville and St Louis, interstate driving with cruise on at 74 netted 34mpg and 37 return for about both trips. One leg had major wind/rain/storm so I'll chalk that up to that.

 

Winter driving I'm lucky to get 35 to 36, that's babying it around with a feather and using the heater...the heater zaps the MPG. Now that it's spring I'm getting about 42mpg.

 

When talking to sales rep about FFH while waiting on a oil change, interstate driving is a known criticism in terms of mpg.

If you only drive around town, with very few trips, an Energi is a better choice than the Hybrid. Especially if you have PV solar panels. My longest trip is 11 miles. I last bought gas in June of 2014 and the tank is still 1/3 full. The gas was used in the winter when the need for heat and lower battery capability meant I couldn't do a 22 mile roundtrip just on the battery.

With only a hair over 2100 miles, the lifetime MPG is 43.3. Last fill up was 45.77 actual off the receipt. Not too shabby for combined MPG on a new car.

Is there a lot of hills where you drive? Flat roads definitely gives me better mpg's.

 

Have you used your coach screen that shows braking, acceleration and cruising? That helps me quite a bit.

2013 FFH purchased end of November, 2012. Car says 38.5 mpg lifetime. Calculated based on fill-ups is more like 37.3 to 37.5 (need to add to my Fuelly app).

The 2014-2016 model years don't have the actual Lifetime Summary screen, but there are a couple of ways to track the lifetime MPG average.

 

1) Use one of the Trip gauges, such as Trip 1 or Trip 2, and never reset that trip meter.

2) Use the "Avg Fuel Economy" MPG display, which is available in the Engage, Empower, and MyView displays, and never reset that MPG value.

 

I personally use both methods; my Trip 2 and the my "Avg Fuel Economy" values have never been reset.

4000 miles and we are averaging 42.3 mpg combined. Trying a little, but not overly. So far I really like this car. No winter driving yet...not looking forward to it.

As of fillup yesterday, 6154.5 miles, 48.72 MPG on the tank (603.5 miles) and lifetime MPG of 45.2. Doing nicely I think.

That's very impressive!

 

We're barely higher than that in MPGe in the Energi, but we have mostly highway miles using the ICE. We're at around 58-59 MPGe lifetime. Our lifetime gas only MPG is 67 right now according to Fuelly.
