MPG Happy Talk

Recommended Posts

230 mile trip over the mountains from Virginia to central West Virginia. Speeds were generally 65 or 70. I would say the trip was more uphill than down (will see about the return trip). Final verdict? 42 mpg. I wasn't babying the car either. I love these results.

Great MPGs today when the mercury hit 50! Both trips were all city driving. The 7.0 mile trip started with a cold engine too! I'm loving this warm weather and loving our Fusion!!

That is better than I've ever seen, my best was a 17 mile run on rural roads on last Thursday morning, got 57mpg.

I wish I could remember to take a picture with the iPhone, something always gets me sidetracked.

Since the weather is staying warmer at night (mid 40's morning, high 70's daytime) the HEV seems to charge quicker and I've been getting more EV time.

Just putzing around local without much effort at hypermiling I'm getting 43-49mpg. I have a 11/31/12 car.

Wednesday we're off to PHX, that 400 mile desert ride ought to be enlightening.

Your car was built the same week as ours!! :)

The big benefit we've seen in warmer weather is shortening how long the ICE runs when it first kicks on. At 20 degrees outside it takes a lot longer before it can go back into EV mode compared to the last few days when it has been in the high 30s or low 40s

Are you sure about that production date? I think either the month or day is incorrect.

I'm not sure about anything....

Would you believe 11/30/12? :headscratch:

56* today. Took it on a drive using Eco cruise, 95% at 55-60 MPH. I dont know what to believe with this car anymore. I went to the gas station, filled the tank, then drove to Harvard.

Scan Gauge said 41.

So I reset the dash, and the SG, and drove it again.

I'm confused.

What did the SG say about the second trip mpg?

How does the terrain compare out to back?

What is odd is the second trip was on less hilly roads than the first one was. The SG showed about 38 on the second trip. This just shows how inconsistent this car is, some times works perfect, other times...... That 51 was a surprise thats for sure. If it did that all the time I would be thrilled! Provided it was accurate of course.

Mine seems to be inconsistant too. I have turned on eco-cruise and I'm going to turn off EV+ and reset trip 1 and lifetime at 4K and see what happens. So often I am like you surprised at the trip info.

The terrain difference of the out-n-back is sometimes pretty noticeable. Went to my Mother-in-Law's for Easter today, 47.9 MPG going there and 63.7 coming back, see below. So Acdii I have the cure for your car, why don't YOU go to my Mother-in-Law's house for me? There's great MPG terrain on the return trip... whadda ya say?

LOL! Oh for some flat roads all down hill both ways for one tank, is it too much to ask for? :)

The warmer weather has made a difference. Had been about 37mpg on average. Today had 3 trips averaging 12-16 miles each today. Hit 51mpg, 44mpg and 54mpg on the trips today. This is the best to date with just a bit over 2000 miles on the car. Used no heater as temp was warm enough today. Excited that this car can hit higher marks than what I had been getting

If this is what I get on a 28* morning, I cant wait until its warmer out, I should be seeing it much higher then! Seems like the more miles I get on the 10, the easier it is to stay above 40. Hmm longterm has jumped up too! Yeah wont be long before its back up to 39 like last summer.

65 MPH cruising to Wisconsin yesterday. With the wind blowing from left rear corner about 10 MPH, temps in the low 20s. The return trip MPG was not as good because we were driving straight into the wind. But this shows that the car can do ok cruising at 65 MPH even in cold weather

Don't know whether it's the warmer weather or passing the "break-in period" (just passed 3000 miles), but MPG has improved the last couple of days, over the same path (17.3 miles) that I take to work everyday. Yesterday, it was 61 degrees, I recorded 55.6 MPG on the trip to work in moderate traffic, and then on the return trip home, with 83 degrees and stop-n-go traffic, it was 62.9 MPG. This morning under a cloudy 64 degrees, the trip was 56.3 MPG with heavier traffic.

I can get use to this really easily!

passed 39900 on the clock this morning, and finding it much easier to get the upper echelons of EPA. The Lifetime has shot up this past two weeks too, went from 36.1 to 36.9. Interstate trip yesterday averaged about 42 MPG traveling 65 MPH. Not bad for a car rated at 36 MPG highway. The current MPG went from just above 37 to 38.2 this week. Temps have been under 30* every morning too, so it isnt temp related, but I wonder if maybe the winter gas has been replaced with summer blend. If the other car were able to do this, I would be pleased with it too!
