2013 Hybrid MPG Results

Anyone got a tank done yet? If so please post how the MPG numbers.

We just picked up our '13 FFH last night, first trip into work this morning came in @ 40.7mpg, I forgot how much was the EV trip miles off the top of my head. But I will be tracking this and can post when we get through the first tank. Keep posted :D

still on the same tank of gas :) , should get about mid 500 miles out of it given the current stats on the summaries. That is me still getting used to driving a hybrid, averaging 65-70 mph on the highway (I try to stay in the 62-63mph range to keep in EV mode), I need to get better at acceleration to maximize mpg

2013 Fusion Hybrid.

Still working on first tank of gas, have had mine for 7 days and

so far, with pretty conservative driving and 90% of it in the city,

I'm averaging 28 MPG. Not real happy with that. It's slowly trickling

up but I'm not sure how it's rated at 47 yet. Am I missing something?

Can someone tell me how they are getting better mileage. Seems

the engine comes on a lot, and can't seem to get battery propulsion

very often when I was expecting a lot more up to 62 mph. I'll even show

a 90% charge on battery and the engine is running majority of the time.

I need more leaves!!!! Anyone with advice or a tip or two, PLEASE help!!

If this is your first hybrid, it takes a bit to learn to go easy on the gas pedal to keep it on electric more. Also once you get it to 40-50 MPH ease up on the gas and it should revert to electric if the ICE is not needed for 1) propulsion 2) charging 3) keeping the engine warm.

 

28MPG doesn't sound very good, even for the break-in period for a new car, but that is also a factor that will cause MPG to be lower at first.

Reset your Average MPG. They are dynoed at full throttle at the factory.

I'm sure they are not driven real easy when they are parked/loaded/unloaded.

If it hasn't been reset that would be the problem.

Definitely do the lifetime summary reset. go through the menus on the left screen, select lifetime summary, and you can reset it there using the OK button.

 

Mine was @ 16.5 mpg when we picked it up on 10/31/12 , we are at 44.6 mpg lifetime now, have seen many trips in the 55-60mpg range. The 'pulse and glide' driving method has yielded the best boost in mpg that I have seen, along with maximizing the time spent in EV mode. Also, ECO cruise is your friend, as posted earlier, you use whenever you can in the beginning

 

As a fellow new hybrid owner, there is a learning curve to driving the hybrid effectively but not hard to adapt to after a week of daily driving. we have about 730 miles so far on our '13 and overall mpg is still ticking higher, even with having the heat on during most of the drive

Thanks Everybody for all the great ideas. Resetting the guage might be what I need to do as it had 25 miles on it

when I got it. I drove to the store last night and my trip summary said 41mpg, so thats probably it. I will update my experiences

as I hope all my new Fusion Hybrid family will do as well!!!

I have 680 miles on my Hybrid since I purchased it last week, with 80% of the driving at 70-75 mph. My average is 34.6 mpg. For my daily commute of ten miles (80% freeway) I've been getting 33 mpg in the morning and 40 mpg in the evening. My one mile trip from my breakfast restaurant to work this morning was all electric and registered 79.3 mpg. Last night on the freeway I spent about one minute at 59 mph and the Fusion was on all electric. With the EV+ activated, the system has already learned when I'm a mile from home and runs on electric only. I set My View to display all the info that is available, and I have found Engage then displays all the information I need for efficient driving. I've turned the Green Leaves off so that the display can give me info on the Audio.

I know I'll never average 47 mpg. To do that I think you would have to drive at a maximum speed of between 55-58 mph. I think doing that would give the Fusion a bad image as all the other drivers pass you. I anticipated my driving habits giving me 40 mpg, and that's what I've been getting this week. If there is no one behind me, I accelerate slower from a stop so that the Fusion stays all electric, but I'm not going to do that if it holds up traffic behind me. I've been trying to limit my maximum speed to 70 mph, which is probably where I should have been before my Fusion.

Try avoiding EV when significant power is required like in acceleration.

Another thing is to anticipate the red lights ahead and be a bit smoother in slowing sooner and restarting from 10MPH instead of quickly getting to a red light and starting again from 0MPH. The same applies for all cars or course, but the more you take advantage of a 3,500lb chunk of metal already moving rather than trying to get back up to speed will also improve the MPG. Of course be sensible when doing this and don't be a big impediment for other drivers behind you... I normally try to plan way ahead like that as long as there are no cars behind me, and I believe it improves MPG and has also enabled me to still have my original brake pads at 140,000 miles, just pulled the wheels again last weekend and still about 1/4 of the pads remain.

Ditto what you said. When I traded in my 2004 Chrysler Pacifica last week, it had 124,000 miles and the original brake pads.

 

I just took the time to do a city test. Some stop and go and speeds of 30-40 mph. I went a total of 9.7 miles that included retracing my path so that climbs and descents balanced out. I am now a true believer.......53.2 mpg. When I ended the battery still had 2/3 of its charge.

I am amazed by the brakes. You should find that you will make your smoothest stops ever. The only thing I'm missing is the Ambient Lighting. Please Ford, make this available in the non-Titanium Fusions.

Some good imformation here. I may be picking up a 2013 FFH on Friday. My current 2010 FFH is getting about 38 overall, it was getting over 40 during the summer, but the colder weather has set in, so the ICE needs to run a bit more. On my initial test drive, it was short, and dark, and did not know how to setup the dash, so no clue what the MPG is. However I did test drive a Cmax today, and got the dash setup, and the short 3 mile trip at 55 MPH and down saw 38.5 MPG and climbing. If anything a good indicator of what its potential is.

 

What I noticed is it has a lot more power than the 2010, and is also very sensitive to throttle input. Since I am used to the power indicators being on the right side, it will take some getting used to the left hand display. I also noticed that highway speeds will take some relearning on my part, it switches between ICE and EV instead of using both to maintain speed, so on ICE its 20 MPG, and ~ on EV, then combined to get average MPG. So IOW if you have a heavy foot, you will use more ICe than EV and get poor MPG.

 

The one I have lined up is loaded with park assist, adaptive cruise, Nav, Sunroof, etc. and I have yet to fully see it in daylight.

 

The rear seats fold! My planes should fit in it, at least my Kadet LT40 will, the 4*120, not so sure yet.

Well, I don't own a 2013 FFH...yet. Still on the fence and doing my research. But thought you might be interested in knowing that someone has added one to the fuelly website. I use this site for my current car (2009 VW Jetta TDI). Might be fun watching what he gets for MPG.

Acddi: With the seats folded down, most R/C planes should fit. Some may have to have the fuselage placed upside down. I taught many people to fly on the Kadet. What glue do you use?

Got a whopping 26.5 MPG city tonight coming home.... :(

 

You don't give us enough information to feel sorry for you.

I drove 2 miles to the grocery this AM and got 18 MPG.

The long term mpg for the car is 41 over 30 months,

on my vacation I got up to 43 as long as I stayed below 70.

The operation of the ICE and EV modes gotta do their thing.

You can't run the EV without a dose of ICE and there's

warming up the pollution controls and passengers.

Nine miles... car already warmed up.. climate control at 70 degrees... there is no reason in hell a car rated at 47MPG should get anything in the 20's in that situation... Just made the same drive again downtown and back... this time to the tune of 29MPG ... 95% brake score, acceleration and cruise both in the highest braket.

Well, I have to agree, there is something not quite right with the new Fusion Hybrid. It may just need more miles on it before it starts getting good, but I just cant see it getting 47 right now. My 2010 gets me good MPG, right around 38 in the cold, 40 when its warm, and on the same roads, driving the same way, the new one barely eeks out 35. The weekend temps were right around 60, and I thought good, this is the best weather for getting high MPG, NOT, still barely eeked out 35. Every bar is maxed out too, cant do much better than that.

 

What I wonder about are the tires, Goodyear Eagles on a hybrid? Shouldnt they have been LRR Michelins?
