trip computer over reports mpg
Cobra348 replied to flydutch's topic in 2017-Current Ford Fusion Hybrid
Welp, in 34200+ miles the combined MPG from receipts is 38.38 and car reports average MPG for the same period as 44.3. My prior HyTi was 41.25 by receipts and I traded it with 38600+ miles just about 2 years ago. I mentioned this large variance a couple times here and have talked with dealer folks. No one has any ideas as to why this is happening. There is no appreciable difference in driving style, destinations, roads traveled, speed, etc. So can you explain it ... and make me believe it? <small chuckle> -
My brothers '13 FFH just hit 91K. He loves it and it's his first (and now last) Ford ever. I've been scoping out some of the other hybrids and have found that ... Malibu hybrid is a bit cheaper, higher EPA MPG, larger trunk (15 cu ft), but only 1.5L Atkinson. And Honda is returning Insight into the fold for '19 ... est 50-55 MPG city, but styled like a smaller version of Accord. Waiting to find pricing and option data. Not impressed with the rest of the field so far.

My '17 FFH (current car) had a DOA lock keypad that got replaced and I just recently had the steering wheel recall done. Specs for it are in my sig. No other issues at all. Prior '15 HyTi was trouble-free. SLIGHT DERAIL: That's why Fords decision on passenger cars frosts me so much. I have had an excellent experience with Ford as compared to other makes I've owned. And that's going all the way back to 1967 when I got my first car (1960 Pontiac Ventura).

"killing off several sedans, including the Fusion"
Cobra348 replied to mwr's topic in News & Reviews
My interval is 2 seconds and shifts to 4 when over 55 for prolonged time. Car does stop fine, but it acts as if the brakes are just slightly backed off of so it can creep. I've gotten in the habit of letting it stop by itself then using my foot on the brake. <shrug> -

My '17 has the stop/start stuff but I wanna say you should keep your foot over the brake. I've had it creep up at a light even after stopping ... to an uncomfortable distance from the car up front. Might want to check Carmax or something for 2017 models - one owner, etc. -
Ford C-Max & Fusion Hybrid Gas Mileage Lawsuits Combined
Cobra348 replied to Fastronaut's topic in Fuel Mileage
What's really crazy is that the current non-Winter rims are EXACTLY the same I used on the '15!! Yup ... I bought them in April '15 when I picked up the prior FFH. Have used them ever since. Soooo, when I say things are the same I mean it. <grin> My sig explains the rim/tire setup. -
I have a '17 at present but also had a '15 before it. I had no issues at all with the '15 in 38K+ miles. Only issue with '17 is that the security keypad was DOA from factory and it was replaced. No transmission issues at 30K+ miles.

Ford C-Max & Fusion Hybrid Gas Mileage Lawsuits Combined
Cobra348 replied to Fastronaut's topic in Fuel Mileage
The OEM Michelins are on the car currently and even though the car computer is climbing some, it has yet to hit 40. . They are my non-Winter set. With OEM rims and Goodyear WRT ICE snow tires (my Winter setup) I'm lucky to get 34 MPG on the current car ... yet I was able to maintain mid-30s with the '15. That's why I think the stop&go feature has somehow caused the MPG to drop. Last 3 tanks by receipt - were 38.75, 34.30 and 37.60 MPG. The 34.30 was an 8.9 gallon fill whereas the others were 10.9 or better. ADDED IN: Car just had the 30K servicing done. The '15 had 38600+ on it when I traded that so this car is running about the same monthly mileage my prior FFH was. -
Ford C-Max & Fusion Hybrid Gas Mileage Lawsuits Combined
Cobra348 replied to Fastronaut's topic in Fuel Mileage
I wonder if I should jump on this bandwagon. I have fuel receipt records for mu '15 HyTi covering April '15 to Aug '16 when I traded it. That car far exceeds the performance of the current one - by several MPG ... and actually was hitting the EPA MPG. I'm struggling to get even 40 on the current one (Aug '16 to present). No change in driving areas, traffic or even technique. They dinked with the way hybrid and electric drives function and how/when ICE runs. Stinks. Might haave something to do with the stop & go feature as the '15 did not have that on the ACC (wasn't available then). -
First Fusion Rear Brake Job
Cobra348 replied to vangonebuy's topic in Brakes, Chassis, Suspension & Parking Aid
I just had 30K maintenance done and my rear brakes are at 9/32 according to the data sheet. Front ones are good. <sigh> Gonna have to watch these. -

accidentally locking intelligent access remote in trunk
Cobra348 replied to lkatze2's topic in Alarms, Keys & Remote Start
From the 2017 FFH owner manual - page 63 "Opening the Luggage Compartment Enter the factory-set code or your personal code, then press 5 6 on the keypad within five seconds." Sooo, the keypad can be used to open the trunk if you know the code! And if I'm not mistaken this does not unlock the drivers door but even if it does, relock it as the trunk will be open.. The 5-6 keystroke needs to be within 2-3 seconds after the last digit of the code. -

However the current government has mentioned a few times about relaxing the mandated standards. If that happens then comparable MPG is not gonna happen. I can't see manufacturers taking the high road and doing it anyway. -
Differences I see - as compared to 2017 SE: 1. front road lights have different bezel 2. wheels are different altho these are probably 18 or 19" and I have 17" 3. rear end has lost the chrome strip that runs fully across trunk in favor of chrome pieces in lights 4. as noted, sharkfin antenna. However I wouldn't bet on that staying on NA models. I feel obligated to mention that I too have leather seats, although not quilted. They are heated but not ventilated. I have ACC w/stop & go as well, park assist, all the goodies except moonroof and nav. And several K less than a platinum.

"killing off several sedans, including the Fusion"
Cobra348 replied to mwr's topic in News & Reviews
I started looking. Chevy Malibu hybrid for starters. EPA estimates are better than Fusion, HP rating a bit lower. Biggest complaint seems to be the entry being cramped and rear window being restricted. There's a Chevy dealer about 15 miles from me and I may look at Malibu - in general - to get a feel. FCA (Chrysler) is out as I do not want a 300. But I also have a bad taste from some of the non-US brands ... cars falling apart (new ones at that!), lack of support from dealers, etc. I still have some warranty time but it won't hurt to get ideas. And I'm sticking with hybrids ... I can thumb my nose at everyone else who can't get more than 30 MPG. -

I do understand the need for Ford and others to make a profit. However when Ford essentially torpedos products that comprise about 30% of their sales it's a very baffling move. I've been reading articles on Autoblog and elsewhere and for the main part they are also confused by the radical move although understanding of why. In these articles, I read comments that folks left and a large number would like Fusion retained but with trimmed models/options ... sort of like what has been discussed a bit here. Even pickup owners have remarked that **some** semblance of sedans should remain. I''m not liking this one darn bit. I chose Ford years back because they had good looking cars that met my needs and didn't take the Feds up on bailout cash in '08. Articles also hint that GM is pretty much heading the same way as well. Essentially I see that the US auto makers are gonna hand off the car market to companies whose world HQ is outside the US. -

The multiple versions is what has hampered Ford in some ways. It's major confusing to some people. I read somewhere a bit back that Fusions had >30K different possible combinations. That's a lot! It's also the reason I made the suggestion above of trimming the models down to a really manageable set of things. I've already looked a little bit even tho my warranty is solid for a while. Chevy Malibu has a hybrid variant. I might go that way. I'm not keen on going to a make where the world HQ is not in the US so some of the others are out. Also, Nissan, VW and Toyota left a bad taste in my mouth with the cars I had from them. Gas will get back to $4/gallon or more and Ford will be completely out of that niche. Idiotic ... really not smart at all. ADDED: Oh wow! I just caught the article linked below. Ford announced the car cuts in the same press conference where they announced a first-quarter 1.7B profit! https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2018/04/25/ford-quarterly-profit-cuts-lineup/549463002/ -

SUVs and trucks are LARGE profit items whereas cars are typically lower profit margins. They are gearing for windfall profits per sale than accepting any and all profit they can make. Selll 20 Fusions and potentially make as much profit as a couple trucks or 1 Mustang. I tell ya, they want the windfall cash, not a trickle. And if sedans, etc are not in demand how come I see a boatload of Fiestas, Focus and Fusions all over my burg. As well as Chevy, Honda, Mazda, etc. As to trucks, Rams are more populous here than F-150. Interesting sale figures for 2018 to date ... https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/innovations/wp/2018/04/26/ford-has-been-synonymous-with-cars-for-more-than-a-century-thats-about-to-change/?utm_term=.2eaa875cf481 Look at last paragraph where Fusion sales > Focus sales > Mustang sales. I grant profit margin on Mustang is larger than the other two but Fusion outsells the one model they are gonna keep! Whut? -

Cobra348 replied to mwr's topic in News & Reviews
Nope, you're missing the point. Cars comprise 30+% of all unit sales ... without trucks in the mix they are about 40%. A lot of people do not want high-priced sports cars or an SUV or truck. That is the point. For me Focus is too small, Ecosport IS a Focus underneath. And Model T is a car thus a Fusion (not Escape). Poor ole Henry is prolly rolling in his grave - especially since the guy doing this has no prior automotive experience. -

But that's just you. But let's go with it ennyhoo. Gas Fusion - SE, Titanium. For Titanium, Sport is an option pkg; moonroof is already an option and adding that is essentially a Platinum. Hybrid Fusion - SE, Titanium. No Sport option on Titanium, same moonroof idea. I don't want a truck nor an SUV. Mustangs are useless in the Winters here and for the price I'd be stupid to drive one in the salted roadways. I have a warranty until 8/30/22 or 100K miles. When it runs out, I'm gone. -

If that's so, why are they touting a hybrid Mustang, an AWD Mustang, a hybrid F-150, a diesel F-150? If they were gonna get out of electric, I would think the hybrids would not be on this list. And the hybrid Mustang has been written about as well as confirmed at Carlisle. http://www.motortrend.com/news/2020-ford-mustang-hybrid-what-to-expect/ Note - headline for that is "Ford is promising a future of electrified vehicles, and the Mustang Hybrid is just the start"? Short note on the hybrid F-150 - https://www.tfltruck.com/2018/01/learn-little-2020-ford-f150-hybrid-detroit/ -

Yup. And here's another link about the same thing. What kind of stuff is Ford Management smoking? Will they share? https://www.yahoo.com/news/abandon-car-ford-dropping-passenger-234500158.html If they kept Fusion and Mustang and F-150 that would work. But Mustang is too high-priced for me and a pickup is not my cup of tea. This is a great way to push me to GM or elsewhere <shudder> NOTE TO FORD: You just added 2 trim lines to Fusion - Sport and Platinum. JD Power and several others have remarked about the huge number of Fusion variants. Well, here's a way you could possibly keep Fusion as a low-cost item for folks: Gas Fusion - reduce the trim lines to Titanium and Platinum. Make Sport as an option package like the California package is to the Mustang.Hybrid Fusion - reduce trim lines to Titanium and Platinum. Maybe keep SE as an entry level.Energi Fusion - TBH, its selling point is in-town economy. It has no pass-thru (which BTW I use a lot in my hybrid!), so to me it's not worth the added cost over hybrid.End result: Fusion in a less complicated option form, Mustang and trucks. Keep in mind that gas prices are going to go up ... they're about $3 (87 octane) in my area now and still rising. When the gas reaches a certain level, people will be looking for something economical. Do you want GM and Kia and the like to get that business or do you want it? ADDED IN: Read the comments at the end of the article. Lots of Ford owners going elsewhere if Ford does this. Henry Ford wanted to make cars that everyone could afford. Well, now his company will focus on anything BUT everyday cars. Good move! -
Only 10K? Wow! The '12 that I had the issues with had the fix applied at around 30K miles. I'll look for the info.
-
In more than 1 of their articles they remarked that the torque converter didn't seem to spin properly. That had several of us on the Fiesta forum all sorts of "WTH?" I owned 4 Fiesta SE sedans - all powershift. An '11, a '12 and 2 '14s (son drove one and bought it from me). Only the '12 had clutch issues and the dealer got right on it and it was fixed very quickly - clutch module. I do know the module rev at that time was "F" which essentially is 6th version. Dunno about Focus, but it seemed that if someone had issues almost right off, the car was in essence a lemon. One fellow had a '11 manual and had so many problems he dumped it and went Kia or something ... within 50K miles. <shakes head> I know Focus had many of the same issues and if my car (any of them) had been the way you describe or worse, it would have been gone from the driveway. The problem with surveys is they are highly subjective AND as noted, don't differentiate between severity of issues. There are 4 or 5 items on my FFH that I don't like but comparatively minor in nature and I would not report them in ANY survey except to Ford.
