  1. Your speed is high! We do so much city driving that our average MPH is usually around 17-19.
  2. I would request that everyone who experiences this file a complaint with the NHTSA. I agree that this is a wonderful community & that we have done a lot to help solve issues for Ford since these cars were introduced in 2012. The more similar complaints that we send to the NHTSA, the higher the likelihood that they will be noticed. Writing the complaints in a way that is factual & professional should have the most impact. Please use this link to file a complaint. The text of my complaint can be found in this post. This post contains what dtw-dave said in his NHTSA complaint. If enough complaints are sent to the NHTSA this may become the subject of a recall. Thanks everyone for your help to make sure Ford knows that this issue needs to be fixed. :worship:
  3. Here is documentation for Ford that substantiates what the engineer told me about the coordinated flash. We had missed this SSM before...
  4. Here's one we had missed that I discovered when looking for ones about the Focus Electric. SSM 44776 - 2013-2014 C-Max, 2013-2015 Fusion HEV/PHEV and MKZ HEV, or 2012-2014 Focus BEV - Powertrain Modules Coordinated Flash - Service Tip Effective Oct 20 2014 2013-2014 C-Max, 2013-2015 Fusion HEV/PHEV and MKZ HEV, and 2012-2014 Focus BEV require a coordinated flash when performing module programming for the ABS, BECM, PCM, SOBDM, or TCM. When module programming is initiated for any of these modules, the IDS will check for software updates for the ABS, BECM, PCM, SOBDM, and the TCM and will automatically install updates to each module that is not already at the latest level. If the coordinated flash is interrupted undesired vehicle operation may result. If the ABS module is programmed during the coordinated flash, DTC C1018 may be present after programming has completed, and the Multi-Calibration Routine must be performed. The Multi-Calibration Routine is found in IDS by selecting Toolbox - Chassis - Braking – Service Routine – Multi-Calibration.
  5. I find that I can get much better gas mileage buy overriding the ACC. It will wait too long to start braking for traffic in front of you since it can't see as far as the human eye can to anticipate traffic patterns. It also cannot anticipate rolling hills on the freeway to know how to handle them most efficiently. The only time I find it of value is for accelerating back up to speed once you're moving past a bottleneck. But that's a discussion for the ACC thread, not here...
  6. We have an iPod Mini from about 2006 that has a permanent home in the Focus Electric. It's only 4 GB so it doesn't hold a lot of music, but it has enough for use when driving within the city. For long drives we'll connect our iPad via USB since it has our entire music library. It takes a long time to index...
  7. I have grown to really like the electronic parking brake. It would be even better if it were automatic. I find it interesting that our cars with the eCVT have the equivalent of a parking pawl that is engaged when shifting to Park with the gear selector. Even the Focus Electric has a way that the "transmission" is locked when in Park. Tesla's don't have anything like that, their cars just automatically engage the Parking Brake when shifting into Park. They don't have a separate Parking Brake switch. I wonder if other EVs will be designed that way in the future. This is an awesome sentence!  :rating:
  8. This is what I already determined that the issue is, many weeks ago. The problem is that the car shouldn't have a gap in the timing. Our Focus Electric & my parents' C-Max Energi do not have this issue. Our Fusion Energi didn't have this issue until the 15E03 & 14S21 recalls were performed. When the wheel speed reaches a certain level of variation the car decides that regen braking cannot provide safe stopping power since regen happens at the axle & not at the wheel level. Thus, regen braking force must be reduced & the friction brake pads must be used. This transition should be imperceptible, now it is not & the car lurches forward because the regen braking cuts out but the brake pads don't kick in until later.
  9. I think this was the consensus we reached. 3.7 would have worked on the 2013 from a hardware perspective. Ford just decided not to make it available as part of planned obsolescence for the 2013 vehicles.
  10. The Tesla service model is one of the things that really sets them apart. That along with over-the-air software updates.
  11. He lives in Edmonton, so I haven't seen it other than the pics :camera: he has sent us. He says he's getting right about EPA estimates for fuel economy.
  12. Makes sense when on bumpy pavement, but our issue has nothing to do with bumpy pavement.
  13. Time is the thing for me. Most of our car trips are fairly short in length. For those trips it is more work than it's worth to dig out the USB cable & plug in my phone. It's easier to just listed to the radio. There are a half dozen radio stations here that are moderately appealing that I can flip between to avoid commercials. If they all have nothing good on or are all playing commercials then I'll listen to music via Bluetooth. But, MFT is so slow to connect to BT that it's a pain. I don't use services like Spotify so I don't know about those. My wife listens to music from Spotify or other similar sources daily while driving via BT.
  14. I merged the topics. I also hope that Ford will figure out how to fix this! I was using Torque Pro so that I could log data from multiple modules. In FORScan I think the wheel speed sensors are in the Body Control Module. You can log all the rest of the data from the BECM to see what happens, without the wheel speed data.
  15. I can't find this on the Ford Owner site. The 3.7 update was only for 2014+ vehicles. Ira - you have a 2013 and you reference installing 3.8. How did you find it?
  16. How do you pronounce "Vignale"? That's been my question for years now...
  17. This review shows how inferior fuel cell cars are to BEVs in driving experience: http://cleantechnica.com/2015/10/05/back-future-driving-toyota-mirai-hydrogen-fuel-cell-vehicle/?utm_source=Cleantechnica+News&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=988c336501-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_term=0_b9b83ee7eb-988c336501-332079429 I like Elon Musk's classification of them as "fool cells".

  19. Will the dealer provide you with a complimentary rental/loaner vehicle? If they will, then I'd consider taking it & letting the FFH sit while waiting for the new eCVT to arrive. If they won't, then consider finding another dealer that will provide one.
  20. I like this approach. This is what we'll do with the FFE & what my parents are doing with their C-Max Energi. While you say right now that you plan to keep the car a long time, it might be that when a couple more years go by you have a different opinion.
  21. And Hyundai lost their lawsuit with the same company that sued Ford: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-10-01/hyundai-told-to-pay-paice-28-9m-over-hybrid-engine-patents
  22. Ford won this lawsuit: http://www.law360.com/articles/708292/uspto-rules-for-ford-in-dispute-over-hybrid-vehicle-tech
  23. Interesting article about the success of Ford in marketing EcoBoost vehicles: http://jalopnik.com/fords-ecoboost-is-just-a-really-good-marketing-scheme-1733576779
  24. It'll be so nice to have autonomous vehicles. Imagine the savings on accidents!
