  1. Keeps randomly turning off showing Safety Now feature which turns the whole car off. Even with gas it will not go. Anyone else having this problem?
  2. Hello, Back in 2012, I purchased an used 2002 Toyota Prius with 80k miles at an auction for $4800. It was great and I averaged around 52mpg average upon usage. The model line of first generation prius (2001 - 2003) had some defects, but the main one was the extremely small tires. They needed replacement just over a year of usage (about 15k miles with my driving). Anyway, it recently gave out at 220k miles and the repairs were just too much for what the car was worth. After doing some research on what I'm looking for and what my needs are, I've landed on purchasing a Ford Fusion Hybrid. My main questions revolve around how high the MPG can go assuming you're using good MPG hybrid driving techniques and live in mostly sunny weather (Los Angeles). The EPA estimated MPG for old 2002 Prius was 41mpg, but I was about to reach around 52mpg. The Ford Fusion Hybrid had an EPA estimated 42mpg, and I was wondering if I would be able to stretch the MPG to around 52mpg or higher like I did my old hybrid? I've been reading the information on this forum which has been extremely helpful, and have even seen a 600 mile club! :)
  3. Good day to you folks on this forum. I'm interested in buying a Ford Accessories for my F-250 truck model year 2011. If anyone has a good deal regarding the same. Thank you.
  4. Hello all and thanks in advance for any help! I have a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid with 150k miles and all scheduled maintenance performed on-time. I have a Stop Safely Now light that started intermittently a little over a month ago and is now hard failed. The first time it happened was 5 weeks ago and I had just returned from a trip out of the country and the vehicle sat 10 days without running. After starting the car I was able to drive about 20 feet at which time I stopped to connect bluetooth and the SSN message illuminated. My first thought was dead or dying battery since I have heard this could cause SSN. I jumped the car and drove without issue for the next two weeks. Then three weeks ago I got in the car after leaving it parked overnight and drove for about 10 feet before I got SSN. This time I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new 12V battery without testing the installed battery. After installing the new battery I still had the SSN light and I called it a night. Further research shows the 12V battery I removed assuming it was dead was only installed 3 years ago and is likely in serviceable condition. After letting the car sit overnight with the new 12V battery installed I started it in the morning with no problem and did the fuel trim learning game. I drove with the new battery for 3 weeks with no issues until last weekend. Now the car has the Stop Safely Now light illuminated on key turn and it will not move under its own power. I used my OBD2 reader to download codes twice. The first set of codes was downloaded right after the battery change so I am assuming some of the codes are from that: C1600 - reverse input circuit C1015 - exhaust gas recirculation sensor B circuit high U3003 - battery voltage I cleared these codes after the battery change and I had no engine lights or driving issues until last weekend. I also checked the engineering fault code page on the dash after the battery change and I had no current or historic faults recorded. Now the car has a OBD2 code C1018 - regen braking and on the engineering fault code page it lists DTC C46200 as a historical fault. Keep in mind I am using a very basic OBD2 reader so it is likely missing some faults. I have been reading everywhere about the Stop Safely Now issue and it seems to stem from a number of different issues, the most frequent being a coolant pump. I could really use any advice in troubleshooting this issue myself (I am an aircraft mechanic) or relevant manual references. I am trying to avoid a costly stealership repair but I am pretty stuck at this point. Worth mentioning all of the fuses are in good shape! Please let me know if you have any questions that would help point in the right direction.
  5. If Ford did in fact infringe on these patents, then I hope that they do the right thing and pay the patent holder a fair royalty. http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140220/AUTO0102/302200079/Ford-sued-over-use-company-s-hybrid-vehicle-inventions Ford sued over use of company's hybrid vehicle inventionsSusan DeckerBloomberg NewsFord Motor Co., the second-biggest U.S. automaker, is accused of developing its hybrid vehicles using technology from a Baltimore company that won a patent-infringement case against Toyota Motor Corp., maker of the Prius. Paice LLC, in a lawsuit filed Wednesday, says hybrid and plug-in versions of Fordā€™s C-Max, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ all infringe its patents covering ways to control electric motors and internal combustion engines so they have increased fuel efficiency and reduced emissions without any loss of performance. Ford had licensed one of Paiceā€™s patents under a deal struck in 2010. The two companies agreed not to litigate over other patents until Jan. 1, 2014, to give them time to reach a broader settlement. The negotiations, according to Paiceā€™s complaint, were ā€œshort and one-sided.ā€ ā€œThe truth is that Ford built its new hybrid system by relying heavily on the hybrid vehicle inventions it learned from Paice,ā€ the company said in the suit, filed in federal court in Baltimore. The Abell Foundation, a nonprofit group that invests in Baltimore-area companies including Paice, also joined the suit against Ford. Alex Severinsky, a Soviet emigrant and engineer, created Paice to commercialize his work on a high-voltage method to power gas-electric hybrid motors. From 1999 to 2004, Severinsky and other Paice officials held more than 100 meetings and interactions with Ford to help the automaker develop a hybrid engine that would increase gasoline mileage without losing performance, according to the 50-page complaint. At the same time, Dearborn-based Ford was working with Toyota to develop a hybrid vehicle using Toyotaā€™s Prius as a template. Paice says that Ford was sharing its technology with the Japanese automaker. Paice won a patent-infringement trial against Toyota in 2005 and the two companies reached a global settlement in 2010 on the eve of another trial that might have resulted in an import ban on Toyota vehicles had Paice won. Ford sought to pre-empt the latest lawsuit. It filed a complaint in December in Delaware Chancery Court seeking a court ruling that Paice couldnā€™t file a complaint under the terms of their 2010 agreement. The Paice lawsuit doesnā€™t seek a specific dollar amount from Ford. According to the complaint, Paice offered to license the technology to Ford for $150 per vehicle in 1999. Fordā€™s U.S. hybrid and electrified vehicle sales in 2013 climbed to 85,919, more than double the 33,476 a year earlier. By May last year, the automaker had beaten its previous annual best for hybrid and electrified U.S. vehicle sales, achieved in 2010. Ford and Toyota last year ended their collaboration on gasoline-electric systems for pickups and sport-utility vehicles. Paice also has pending infringement complaints against Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. over the same patents.
  6. Today in the mail I received a brochure for the 2014 Fusion Hybrid which included a $750 Private Cash offer. I guess Ford must think that we love our FFH so much that we're going to buy another one! Has anyone else received something similar without requesting information from Ford? I sure wish we had received one of those coupons last Fall when we ordered our car!! :banghead:
  7. From the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2013/07/16/us/16reuters-autos-ford-hybrids.html?hp I imagine this will be discussed more in the days to come.
  8. I know that the 2010 Hybrid, S, SE and SEL all come with or are available with a 2.5L 152 Cu. In. Inline 4. Is the engine in the Hybrid exactly the same as the one in the other 3 sub-models? Would I be able to use the same parts on my Hybrid that are available for the other types? Thanks!
  9. So my dad and I went to the Ecoboost Challenge in Minneapolis this past weekend. It was incredibly disappointing. Below are some of my comments I put on the follow-up survey which explain why I was so disappointed. To expound on my comments about the Hypermile Challenge I'll explain a bit about how it was structured for those who didn't go to an event. It was a 1/2 mile loop. The Ford Eco Coach riding with your would reset the MPG on the Empower display before you set off. Then you had to accelerate up to 25 MPH minimum and keep it there for the straightaway. Then there was a wide loop at the far end where you could almost keep up a 25 MPH speed but were allowed to slow down. Then you had to accelerate back up to 25 MPH before hitting the final straight. Then you'd loop around back to the staging area using regen braking to stop. Once you stopped they would read your MPG off the Empower screen and report that as your result. They would keep track of the highest scores each hour and then at the end of every hour they'd have a drive-off between those two leaders with the winner receiving a prize. Sony sponsored the event and they were giving away "$300 Sony headphones" or at least that's how the event employees described them. The rules were that you had to use some gas, results of 999.9 were possible but not accepted. They had 4 vehicles, 2 Fusions and 2 C-Maxes. There were results from earlier in the day where people got as high as 800 MPG. This means they started with a very high SOC so that when the ICE did come on accelerating it hardly used any gas. Contrarily, when I drove the car started with an SOC so low that there was no threshold on the Empower screen, as soon as I touched the gas the ICE came on. This also meant that the ICE was incredibly loaded up charging the HVB and that when I let my foot off the gas to coast the car slowed down more quickly than normal since it was trying to put energy back into the battery. This meant that instead of getting results in the hundreds of MPGs I only managed 69.6 MPG. This was all vehicle dependent too, other vehicles that had higher SOCs were returning results of 100+ at the same time that I could only get 69.6. To compare, the previous hour winners did their drive off in the same FFH I drove right before me and only got results in the 40s, likely with the same low SOC. I regret the fact that I didn't clue into this earlier on so that I could have set myself up with a better starting SOC by specifically requesting a certain vehicle based on previous results. There also was a section of the survey for general comments about Ford. In that box I said: I'm curious to hear from others who went to an event in their locale to see what they thought and if they experienced the same long lines and scam of a hypermile challenge that we did.
  10. What reports are there that you can get when ordering a new car? A lot of you have mentioned getting a report that shows your build priority. Some have mentioned a DORA and others a VOC? What are these reports? I wish I had known about all these things when we ordered our Fusion back in the fall. Now I want to help my parents track the progress on their C-Max Energi. I imagine this will also be helpful for others on here too. And it's easier to do here than on BOF Thanks!
  11. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1084565_gaming-the-epa-gas-mileage-tests-how-it-really-works There is no doubt in my mind that Ford did exactly this. The Road & Track article they reference can be read here and is a good read

  13. Hi there, forum folks! I just purchased a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid a few weeks ago and thought that I'd join and share my experiences. This is my first hybrid vehicle. I should say that I am a former leadfoot but have since slowed down somewhat :-) My driving conditions typically range from city to highway driving. But since I live in Chicago it's always a traffic jam for me. On the bright side, this gives me a chance to let the car flex it's muscles, so to speak. So far, I am quite happy with the Fuel economy that I get with the new Ford fusion. I am currently working on 42 mpg in somewhat warm weather. However, I do notice that it gives me worse fuel economy in colder temperatures. But I suppose that is to be expected. Overall, I do like this car. It is still going through it's break in period and I've just about reached an empty tank. Looks like I'm getting about 430 miles per fill up. It's a pretty big improvement over my 19 mpg with my old SUV :-)
  14. Just wanted to say hello and that I absolutely love my new Fusion Hybrid Titanium! I have only had it about a week and a half and have 1300 miles on it. Such a great car to drive and I have averaged 39-40 mpg with 60% of that being interstate 60 to 75 mph. I use EcoCriuse as much and as often as I can.
  15. Driving 50 miles round trip to work in traffic was killing me... And after one of my co-workers came in talking about her new Ford Fusion Hybrid, I had to get one. No questions. I loved the white one, and I named her "Eve" after the character in the Disney movie Wall-E. She looks just like the white robot, even with the leaf! Took her on her first roadtrip from Wisconsin to DC last week and my gas mileage was phenominal! I love this car!!!
  16. I recently notice that the chat link on ford.com is not showing anymore when I click on "build & Price". I've been trying to start a chat session to find latest status on my HyTi build, but nothing comes up. I know they can start a chat on you, as I've been navigating the site and the chat windows pops up. But I can't start it. Is anybody else having the same experience? :sos:

In a vehicle that will steer you back from crossing a lane line, slow you down automatically when the cruise control detects a slower vehicle in front of you, automatic lights, wipers, and the availability to drive on battery power only, the opportunites are there to load the cockpit up with more switches than a modern aircraft. But the engineers at Ford have made the features and functions of the Fusion easy to manage with a menu screen, steering wheel mounted controls, or the command of your voice. The cabin is spacious, comfortable, quiet, and easy to manage even though it is one of the most technological vehicles on the road!
