C-Max Low 12V Battery Customer Satisfaction Program
hybridbear replied to billford's topic in Recalls, SSMs & TSBs
Interesting. I wonder if it will happen in the USA too... I've read some of the threads on the C-Max Forum. It seems like a lot more of them have battery issues than FFHs. The Energi models don't usually have low 12V battery issues since they charge the 12V while connected to the EVSE. Edit: I updated the topic title since it isn't actually a recall... -
I thought of the FCIM since the issue has to do with climate control during remote starts... We'll see what happens. I'm wondering if it isn't a module but is a physical part. But that doesn't make much sense...

Have you considered a portable Sirius radio which could be connected through the USB or RCA connector? That would be cheaper than buying an SE if you're really comfortable with the Hybrid S features.
-
The dealership is replacing the "radio faceplate controls interface" according to the SA. Which module is this? Is this the FCIM?

Satellite Radio Demo Period
hybridbear replied to murphy's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Working now. Thanks. -
This is what happened to us which has led to our continued issues with the remote start settings being grayed out. As of now Ford has instructed the dealer to replace the computer because they appear to have bricked it with their failed update.

I believe power seats require an upgrade from the base SE. Check out the Order Guides here for more info. You can also check out this thread for differences of SE versus Titanium. We should maybe update that thread to include S versus SE differences.

The rods are part of the system for opening the trunk. Check out this TSB for more details about how the trunk works.

Satellite Radio Demo Period

It isn't working in our Energi. I turned on Sirius last night and got "channel unsubscribed" on channels on the list at the link murphy posted. I wonder if it will work today... -
Road Trip Observations with Torque Pro
hybridbear replied to hybridbear's topic in General Discussion
This past weekend we went to visit family in Winnipeg. Wind makes a huge difference. Going north we had the wind behind us and even though we were driving in rain the whole day with temps in the low 50s we managed over 48 MPGe driving 465 miles with only one charge. Coming home, same distance & only one charge, we only got 39 MPGe driving into the wind with less rain & temps in the 60s to low 70s. The change in wind meant about a 20% reduction in fuel economy! That's a big impact. A big difference could be seen in our fuel use. From Mpls to Fargo going north we used 4.93 gallons, coming home from Fargo to Mpls we used 6.40. From Fargo to Winnipeg we used 4.59 gallons, from Winnipeg to Fargo coming home we used 5.18 gallons. The total fuel use northbound was 9.52 gallons, southbound we needed 11.58 gallons. We used more than 2 extra gallons of gas coming home because of the wind. I could noticeably see the difference in the kW at the wheels according to Torque Pro. The load was significantly heavier coming home driving into the wind. It could also be seen in the ICE RPM. Most of the time when on flat ground with the wind behind us the RPM was around 1900-2000. Driving into the wind the RPM was usually around 2250-2350. Some other observations: The rain noticeably cooled the tires and lowered their pressure. Coming home we drove in & out of rain. When driving in the rain on wet/cool pavement the tire pressure was about 42 PSI. When driving on dry pavement the tire pressure was around 45 PSI in all tires. Cold pressure at 50 degrees is about 42 PSI in our tires. Transmission fluid temperature peaked at around 170 F. Most of the time it was right around 150 F. Driving in the rain we had to run the defrost & thus the A/C compressor was on which causes the grille shutters to open at least partway and the ICE fan turns on. The only time the transmission fluid temp reached 170 F was when there was no rain so we had the climate control off and the sunroof cracked for ventilation. The ICE coolant temp never exceeded 195 F. With defrost running causing the aforementioned cooling effects the coolant only got up to about 182-184 F. Even with the heavier load while coming home the coolant temp didn't really go above 185 F because of defrost keeping the shutters open. Another possible reason for lower fuel economy coming home was that we were running 87 octane gas instead of 89. The tank that we burned going north was 89 octane. As mentioned in post 23 the spark advance & VCT advance behavior changed when running 87 octane gas for the trip home. The drive from Mpls to Fargo was all 89 octane. In Fargo we topped off with 87 and I could immediately notice a change in the spark advance & VCT advance. The tank was near empty by the time we returned to Fargo on the trip home. I added just enough 87 octane to make it back home. Once the tank was running all 87 the spark advance was even less than on the mixed tank. Tomorrow I'll fill the car and we'll be putting in 89 octane again. Here are our trip results: While driving at freeway speeds we were usually under 10% EV miles according to the MyFord Mobile trip log. Some stretches were as low as 3% EV miles, most of the long highway stretches showed around 5-7% EV miles. Overall we had about 18% EV miles including all our driving around the city and 46.6 MPG when you don't factor in the free electricity while staying in Winnipeg.- 56 replies

I agree. My SA likes that I bring him the TSB/SSM numbers that apply. It saves the dealership time/cost when they don't have to research the problem but can just fix it & bill Ford. Often the dealerships cannot get work done in the warranty time allotted by Ford for reimbursement, anything that the customer can do to save the dealership time means more money in the dealers profit. However, some dealers seem to dislike warranty work in general because it pays them less than what they charge people who are out of warranty.

While your dealership was able to reprogram the module and fix your car that has not been successful with our Fusion... I posted more details here.
-
I've twice been back to the dealer for them to fix it. First they took a stab at it themselves and they were not able to reprogram the module to fix this. Then they contacted Ford and got directions regarding how to do a "forced reprogram" of the module. They attempted that today and the remote start settings are still grayed out as you can see in the pics below. They contacted the Ford Hotline again and were told to replace the module that they have been unable to successfully reprogram. The module should arrive in a few days and once it arrives we will bring the car back to them. The dealership has done a good job throughout the process to try to fix it... They have even plugged in the car to charge so that I have enough range to get home on battery.

Might be time to visit the dealer. Are you still within the 3/36 warranty period?

FORScan has an iOS & Android version as well. I use the Android version in the Focus Electric. Torque Pro will show you the tire pressures if you know the PID formula.

You're probably right... Discount Tire will also price match tires from other shops or online which has saved us money in the past when buying new tires.

Calling 911 via Voice Commands
hybridbear replied to hybridbear's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Not in the Focus. -
As far as I know Discount Tire will always fix tires for free. The Focus tires are OEM and they rotate the tires & fix them for free. That's why we go to Discount Tire.

Calling 911 via Voice Commands
hybridbear replied to hybridbear's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I tried that and it didn't understand me... That's what I thought too. -
How can you call 911 via voice commands? The other day I was driving through a rough part of the city and saw some ppl beginning to fight in the middle of the street and pretty soon ppl had pulled out guns. I tried to call 911 but nothing I said triggered Sync to dial 911. I tried saying "Call 911", "Dial 911", "Phone (pause) Dial 911" and nothing worked. I got away from that area as fast as I could and once I was safely away I got my phone out of my pocket to call. This seems like a major safety issue if you can't quickly dial 911 with voice commands. Does anyone know how to do it?

GM cuts the price of the 2016 Volt by almost $1200
hybridbear replied to Automate's topic in Competing Products
Sadly the Volt still doesn't have power seats. The current gen Volt has adaptive cruise, I'd be surprised if it is no longer available on the new one. The real feature the Volt is missing is Lane Keep Assist. It just does the stupid warning when you cross the line. And, the biggest issue of them all is the fact that Chevy still only has stupid 3.3 kW charging. That means you can only add ~10 miles per hour of charging. That's such a waste... The Focus Electric has 7.2 kW charging and we can add ~20-25 miles per hour of charging. The new Volt with its larger battery should have at least 6.6 kW charging to enable more electric only trips with charging throughout the day. -
Congrats on your new car & welcome!
