hybridbear Report post Posted January 21, 2013 UPDATE: Here is my response from Ford "Dear Nicholas, In regards to your fuel economy on your 2013 Fusion, your dealership has advised that you are currently at an average of 37 MPG. This average is normal for this time of year with the winter blend fuel that is currently on the market at all gas station across the country. We would like for you to come back in the late spring around April/ May 2013 so that we may complete another test for you. We thank you for being our Ford customer! We will speak with you in the spring!" They say nothing is wrong and my car is at its expect MPG.... :( We were getting only in the high 30s in Minnesota with winter but while in California on vacation right now where the temperatures are in 60s or 70s and our mileage is now 47+ with many city trips approaching 60 when starting with a warm engine and 50+ when starting with a cold engine. Highway trips are now 40+ depending on hills and speed. When we keep the speed at 62 MPH or less our highway MPG is 50 on flat roads and around 45 MPG on hills. Going 55 MPH seems to add about 1-2 MPG in comparison with 60 MPH. It appears that the warmer weather coupled with the break in period will increase your MPG. After we hit about 1200 miles we noticed a marked increase in fuel economy. Compared to when we took delivery at 12 miles on the odometer the break-in period was probably worth 3-4 MPG. I went to Fordetis and entered my VIN number and got back a build date of 10/30/12. I traded in a 2010 Fusion Hybrid and had an overall (calculated) mpg of 36.5 on it. My current status should be below from Fuelly. Otherwise, really like the 2013. (with one exception being a buzz I get when the ICE loads or unloads, sounds like a loose item in the exhaust system but I have thumped everything with no results as yet). Like the looks, ride, less road and wind noise. Anyway, if someone comes up with something related to build date being tied to low mpg mine is 10/30/12. acdii Report post Posted January 22, 2013 Yep 11/1/12. So far that is 4 or 5 built the same week with the same issue. Any and all owners who are suspecting sub par MPG, and your build date is in that week 10/29/12-11/2/12, take it in to the dealer and have it written up and entered into the system with poor MPG complaint. There is a good chance that if enough owners with cars built that week show up in the system, then maybe, just maybe someone at Ford will put two and two together and actually look into this and a possible true issue. Right now its just speculation that its something during the build that week that is the problem, like a bad batch of sensors, or programming defect. GrayStrider Report post Posted January 23, 2013 My first tank of gas is half empty...300 miles and I'm getting 44.5 mpg average. I'm hopefully ill get up to the 47 mpg number as I drive it more and it get broken in. So far I'm happy with the performance. I'm still waiting on it to go into ev+ mode though only way home. I think I might be the problem though. I have to turn my car off to get the mail before parking for the night and I don't work at the same location everyday. Hopefully someday soon I will see EV+ It took a few weeks for ours to learn home. Each day on the way home, we swing by our UPS Store box, and the car has also learned that location. It still hasn't figured out that I go to the same place five times a day for work, though - and it's had six weeks to learn that. Still hoping... Maybe some selected to have the rebate sent to them instead of taking it off the price of the car I know I wanted the rebate at time of sale cause I am financing it. I got $500 customer cash that we added to the $3000 down we paid. This discount was due to internet pricing that they honored even though the internet guy wasn't working the night we came in and purchased the car. I've had the same issue. Not at every gas station but at probably about half of the different gas stations I've visited. I'm trying to remember the ones where this issue happens so that I can avoid those stations in the future. acdii Report post Posted January 24, 2013 Its the pump flow. Some pumps are higher volume than others, depends on the filter age. I get my gas at the same BP station, same pump, the one on the other side of this pump fills to fast and shuts off a lot, so moved to the other side, and it fills it OK. I filled today, stopped filling at first click to calibrate the scan gauge II, This is the 3rd fill since I started the calibration process, and it is within .7 gallons. This tank was 9.370 gallons, the SGii came up with 9.3, I also noticed about a 2 MPG discrepancy between the SG and the dash, the SG being lower. Once I filled out the logs, and compared the dash to what was put in the tank, dash 8.99 actual 9.37. MPG 32.7, actual 31.4, it looks like the SGii is spot on, and the car computer off. So I fill until the first click, whether its full or not, and it doesnt always fully fill, drove 11 miles from the station and its already below the full mark. Only allowing two automatic click-offs is mentioned.-Just finished a 188.4 mile RT to Los Angeles, near LAX.Weather was 59-70F, used 4.8 gallons and got 39.1 mpg.Used the Trip Display for the numbers on last night's filled up tank of gas.This trip raised today's starting Overall Average from 37.3 to 38.1mpg tonight.It has 2237 miles on it now. The traffic was typical mayhem, from jams to 80mph and slam on the brakes, 3-4 full throttle bursts, avoid ladders and plastic chairs in the roadway, cruised at 73mph when I could.I did not baby the car, just drove it a little bit over the speed limits, slower than I used to drive.I've decided to just let it do it's alchemy of turning gas and Ohm's into miles. My miles driven is off by .4, MPG off by 1.2, My max MPH was 63, avg MPH 36, max RPM 2635. Granted it was only about 3* outside, but that would not cause a discrepancy. I am more in tuned to trust the readings on the scangauge since the last fill was spot on with the SG and off by almost a 1/2 gallon on the dash. At 70deg.F and 70mph you would expect only 40mpg and -2mpg for each 10deg.F drop in temp. Drafting would gain back 2-3mpg from my experience. At 65mph and P&G 70deg.F I think you should get 45-47mpg. acdii Report post Posted January 24, 2013 Coupled with the fouled plugs it can. The fouled plugs directly relate to excessive fuel usage. Someone somewhere posted that you can expect up to a 17% drop in economy during the winter, which seems to fit in with the 2010, I calculated it out to roughly 13% loss over the winter, and it does vary depending on how cold, some days I can see 40, others 33.
