2013 FFH real world fuel economy

Recommended Posts

Evidentially the cold is a culprit to the FE. Yesterday 72 miles on interstate, 24 degrees, 32.1mpg for the trip.

I reset the trip meter when taking a small trip. Have an appointment on Tuesday at the dealer.

Top shelf dealer, going to run diag on the system and check for any system updates.

Just curious. How fast were you going on the 72 mile trip? How loaded was the car?

Well cold is going to kill the mpg since it needs to run the motor to keep it warm as well as the heater. Now in the summer running the ac will lower your mpg too. So you need to use the coaches ford gives you like break coach and also you need to use empower by far the best option to go by

if anyone has a question i will try to help I own and sell ford so I will do everything I can to get an answer. This is by far my fav car I have ever own. And anyone who owns one I want to help feel the same way. So please feel free to ask if I don't know I will use my dealer resources to find out

Today on my way to work I went into EV+....was happy to see this. Really makes a difference since I park in a parking garage and the ramps are not good for the fuel economy.

So far no problems....except the sound fluctuation with the radio....have they can figure that out.

For some reason when I add pictures from my iPad they come in upside down....now sure how to fix that.

Hi Chris,

After 78 days I got my '13 FFH. But, I was never sent a $750 coupon in spite of 2-1/2 years owner advantage rewards membership. I sure wishh I could understand why those coupons were sent to some and not others (I did send for the FFH sales info) and why some coupons were good for hybrids and others were not. I love my car but $750 off a $35000 deal would have made me feel better about Ford marketing. Can you help me understand the wierdness?

Thanks,

This is not news, as there have been many threads and dozens of posts about it over the past few months. We have a user (actually more than one but I'm referring to acdii) that is on his third hybrid and getting around 35MPG in the 2013 FFH but 40MPG in the 2010 FFH (I also had a 2010 FFH and mine easily gets better MPG)... so while it's true for some that "they just need to learn how to drive a hybrid" it's probably not fitting to paint with too broad of a brush since I've noticed several on here going from one hybrid to another. I'm getting great MPG, but not everyone is so we're interested to learn the details and the outcomes, and I think the posts about how/when the ICE needs to run have already started to pile up next to the dead horse.

Stick>meet horse>xeyexeye

:)

DeeCee, we didn't mean it that way. I for one am glad that others are getting good MPG, more fodder that there IS a problem with a few that Ford is ignoring. It is just painful to be told by Ford, your car is fine, when in fact it is not. The dealer service department can only do what Ford tells them, otherwise they dont get paid for the warranty work. Nick is pissed at Ford same as me as they basically told him the same thing they told me.

When spark plugs foul and the customer had a previous complaint about poor fuel economy in WARM weather, and still has poor fuel economy even after the plugs were replaced, means something is not functioning correctly. Some parameter is off, whether its a MAF, O2 sensor, temp sensor, any one of those could be sending a false signal, triggering a larger injector dwell so more fuel is injected than needed. The fact it appears that cars made in the same week are all experiencing poor mileage is also a key indicator.

Regardless of outside temp, when on the interstate, doing 65, the engine is running, no more EV at that point, so the ICE true fuel economy will show at that point. When a car that is 3 years older, can exceed its highway EPA rating on cruise control at 65 MPH driven in the same ambient temps, and a new car can barely touch that, and be 11 MPG below its highway rating tells me something is not right with it. If the ICE is inefficient at that speed, it will be poor at all speeds, so it will affect overall MPG. I never expected to see 47 MPG highway, that is a pipe dream, but I did expect to see 40 at the very least doing 65 MPH, and the best I saw ever was 38.8. This was down in Florida in 78* temps. When I took a trip on city roads no faster than 45 I did see up to 50 MPG, so no complaints on the hybrid side, only on the interstate side. Majority of my drive is highway of 55 MPH, and getting 47 MPG highway would be wonderful, but I dont think I will ever come close to it in this car. I can see up to 44 in the 2010, which is 3 MPG over city and 8 over highway, 5 over combined, which means, yeah I can drive a Hybrid.

This week I have been doing just drive and dont give a crap about MPG, and it shows too, 34 MPG is about it, I can do better in my 10 driving the same way. Range is also becoming an issue, I can only go 3 days before filling up again, same as it was in my Flex and F150, though only adding less than 9 gallons this time. I can go all week in the other car and have some left over for the weekend.

EDIT: I am seeing 40 and up even in 20* weather in the 2010.

I would not be happy with that mileage. 67 is not that fast. Maybe it was the cold weather.

Ty! Fusiontx. It seems weird others are having a hard time. Terry did you get a rebate off your car? Maybe some selected to have the rebate sent to them instead of taking it off the price of the car I know I wanted the rebate at time of sale cause I am financing it.

I got 31 MPG eco cruise set at 65 over a 50 mile drive. The trip out got 36, but I had a tail wind. Waiting for the plugs to foul again so Ford can tell me nothing is wrong once again after they replace them. I talked to my SM who has been dealing with Ford on this from the start, he has sent them nasty grams telling them there is no way this car can get EPA, he had to drive it no faster then 45 and drive it slow to get the results he got. As far as driving 65 and getting crappy MPG, its outside of Fords test parameters, so it doesn't count.

Hi Chris,

Like everyone else, I was eligible for and received the public $500 off for a cash Hybrid deal. Beside that there were "Private Offer" $750 coupons sent out to some people who applied online for FFH brochures. I sent for and received the brochure and it says on the cover "Here's the information you have been expecting and an offer you were not" or words to that effect. Some like me got no coupon, some got a coupon which excluded hybrids and some got coupons which did not exclude AND were used to buy FFHs. I would really like to understand why as a 32 month owner of a '10 FFH I was not eligible for the $750 private offer.

Thanks,

Same here - was ordering my 4th Ford and for my loyalty and keen interest on the "offer I didn't expect", I didn't expect to get the shaft! Below is a link to the pic of the brochure that I received in the mail, I think it's identical to what Terry received.

Terry I will ask when I get to work. I have seen a few extra customer cash things that come thru but they have been based on zipcode I think. I had customers that didn't know they had them but when my manager ran everything they popped up and we gave them the discount. I myself didn't get 750 extra. Just the 500.

Found out how easy it is to get to the plugs and checked one out. 4 bolts and the cover lifts off, one bolt holding the COP, and remove the plug. Also discovered some oil residue on the throttle body.

I've been seeing that a lot as well.

Have you seen my post in the audio section....I've been having sound fading in and out issues with my fusion. While listening to fm radio. Is this normal? Taking it in to be serviced on Monday,

Here are some hybrid driving tips:

1. Accelerate moderately with STEADY accelerator pressure. Do not try to keep tight spacing on the vehicle ahead.

2. Keep the number of ICE starts and stops to a minimum and avoid EV mode. Use EV for low speed, coasting and transient power demands.

3. Look ahead as far as you can see to traffic signals and coast to the next green. Brake early and lightly. Get your brake score to 100 %.

4. Turn off AC ( compressor ) in moderate temperatures and use ventilation. Don't use heat until ICE warms up from driving. Don't freeze either.

5. Keep to speed limits. Don't draft closely. Gains of 2-4 mpg. can be seen from drafting a van or SUV at proper highway spacing.

6. Keep tire pressures up. 40 psi. is a good compromise.

7. Don't drive in cold, rainy, windy weather, move to Florida

8. Have fun. The Ford hybrid is a high tech toy. Don't have an accident watching the video game.

this exact same answer is on the Hyundai forum as well

2. take out the engine after all it wastes gas. and for heavens sake don't ever let the battery run the car

3. just as soon as you start from one red light take your foot off the gas and coast to the next one or better yet let the guy behind you push you to the next light

4. don't get a/c or heat after all if we want to save gas the next thing is a horse and buggy

5. nothing is gained at proper spacing on the x-way that 3-4 second interval will not get you anything. if you want to save gas and not let the power train work at all hook up to the car in front and let them pull you

6. tire at 40 could do it but if your on snow and ice might as will have hard rubber tires nor traction at all.

7. yep lets all move to the warmer belt and then let them all down there bitch because all the hybrid people moved in.

8. yep it is hy tech and all the money we paid for this hytech should be doing something beside making us all go back to drivers ed just to learn how to draft coast brake and get towed.

come on now if this car only works for real in the moderate climate then maybe they should not be selling them in the hot or cold climates. or at least the dealers or manufactures need to be saying if you want the mileage drive it in the spring and fall other wide it gets what all the rest get 20-30 mpg.

ok results quoted form the ford hybrids fuel economy website are now saying the fusion gets 36 to 40 trying real hard. i still maintain it should not be rocket science here. these cars should just be get in and go. and yes i do agree if you tend to have a lead foot then your mileage will be less but then that is true for every car you drive. we should not have to draft coast forever accellerate like we ate stepping on our balls not pump the tires up to exploding limits just to get the extra miles out of them. maybe they need to actually change the rules on how that mileage rating is ditermened and take the average. or better yet let consumer report give the ratings then it may be more to the real world. we get tons of people on both sites saying we have to drive way different. i drive like some 60 mph on the x-way watch for impending red lights ahead use cruse as much as i can start to coast before stops or exits but then you have to be safe in doing that. don't drag race to the next red light don't warm the car long if at all don't use a/c if i can go without and still i see poor mileage with a car designed to get more. i do better with the cobalt under the same conditions. and yes it is a bit smaller and lighter but way less costly to by up front also.

Right now I am done trying to get anything decent out of this car. It just wont happen, not my car, not when I see others doing well without trying. Not when I drive it like my other Hybrid and cant get what it gets even though it is rated 6 to 11 MPG higher.

Just going to drive it like I drove my Sport, fewer EV miles means more ICE running which means plugs will foul sooner, so I get to have it visit the dealer more often.

As soon as it is in for service #4, I am calling a lawyer and filing lemon law on it. Since Ford has not been very helpful to get it resolved, and CS is basically ignoring me.

So the real question then, have them replace the car, or walk away and go elsewhere?
