Klstaack Report post Posted January 16, 2013 My first tank of gas is half empty...300 miles and I'm getting 44.5 mpg average. I'm hopefully ill get up to the 47 mpg number as I drive it more and it get broken in. So far I'm happy with the performance. I'm still waiting on it to go into ev+ mode though only way home. I think I might be the problem though. I have to turn my car off to get the mail before parking for the night and I don't work at the same location everyday. Hopefully someday soon I will see EV+
acdii Report post Posted January 16, 2013 I think I have been describing my issue all wrong. The car is OK on Hybrid, its when I get above 63 that it goes downhill. Doing a comparison between the two cars, I can see that the 2.0 is using more fuel doing the same job as the 2.5. The 2.5 is more efficient at 65 MPH than the 2.0. When I go back I will see if I can better explain it so they can contact Ford with this. The ICE is not doing as well as it should above 63 MPH, which has a side affect of lowering overall MPG when in hybrid mode. I got the service records today and the tests were all run below 62 MPH. That tells me they didn't understand my complaint. Maybe it will make more sense to them then, and add in the fouled plugs, will be able to actually do something. When I was in Florida with 70+ temps it did not do well at all on the highway, best I saw was 38, using Eco Cruise set to 63 MPH. Above that it dropped down to 32. I did make a city trip of 22 miles and did see 50 MPG doing that, no faster than 50 MPH, few stop lights, etc. so the Hybrid side is fine.

The 2.0 may be great for EPA test, but maybe not so great in real life. I hope that is not the case, and that some ICEs are better than others. Otherwise, what was Ford thinking goint to 2.
terryb Report post Posted January 17, 2013 Sorry, when the basis of comparison is the EPA sticker, Ford is driven to get the best marks it can on the EPA tests. Ford is recommending that the tests be made more realistic and the EPA says as long as everybody tests to our plan, we won't bother to make it more "real life". GrayStrider Report post Posted January 17, 2013 I was wondering too seeing it the first couple times. ICE = Internal Combustion Engine i.e. the gas engine.Ok, DUH, semi-senior moment there... makes perfect sense!! (Why didn't I think of that?)
Klstaack Report post Posted January 17, 2013 Right now I'm happy with the mileage and I only have 300 miles on the car. I was wondering if anyone has seen an increase in mileage after the break in period.
acdii Report post Posted January 17, 2013 Right now I'm happy with the mileage and I only have 300 miles on the car. I was wondering if anyone has seen an increase in mileage after the break in period.I have seen a slight increase after it "broke" :) From experience, right about after 10K you will see more consistent MPG with a slight increase of 1-2 MPG. Part is due to having 10k on the tires, and part to everything melding nicely together. All 3 of my other hybrids were just like that.

Nmadole Report post Posted January 17, 2013 UPDATE: Here is my response from Ford "Dear Nicholas, In regards to your fuel economy on your 2013 Fusion, your dealership has advised that you are currently at an average of 37 MPG. This average is normal for this time of year with the winter blend fuel that is currently on the market at all gas station across the country. We would like for you to come back in the late spring around April/ May 2013 so that we may complete another test for you. We thank you for being our Ford customer! We will speak with you in the spring!" They say nothing is wrong and my car is at its expect MPG.... :(

brcd131 Report post Posted January 18, 2013 My story is somewhat similar. I took my car in to complain about MPG Monday a week ago. After a long wait in waiting room, was told they couldn't connect with Ford computers to see if there were any resolutions and would get back to me. When I got the car back I could tell the MPGs had been reset and were now on 37.2. So it appeared that the Tech drove the car and got 37.2 MPG. Today I get a call from the service dept. and Ford said to wait until I had at least 6000 miles on the car. If the MPGs weren't improving significantly, then bring it in and they'll see what they can do. I'm a little bit optimistic - at least they didn't tell me that the car is working fine and don't bother coming back.
DeeCee Report post Posted January 18, 2013 Not sure if these pictures will come through okay as it is first time I tried to add photos. Just a few shots of a typical days drive. first was a short local trip and then a longer trip to town another super short trip. Had a couple more photos af the last two legs of the trip but got a message that I exceeded the allowable upload limit so could not add them. Anyway, the best leg of the trip waqs just over 60mpg not considering the 0.1 mile trip at 999.9. The return trip home was just over 40 mpg, Todays outside temp was in the low 50's. 1 coach81 reacted to this

Chris-with-berge-ford Report post Posted January 18, 2013 Another thing is I drove and was at 49 mpg today. Let a customer drive same distance and she was at 37 its how you drive it. She never took her foot off the gas. Once you hit your speed take foot off then lightly go back to it and your in ev. If not it will stay in gas

Ric Report post Posted January 18, 2013 Update-cold mornings are killing my FE 33-37 MPG. During the day 36-47 MPG. Overall MPG on display 42 MPG.Evidentially the cold is a culprit to the FE. Yesterday 72 miles on interstate, 24 degrees, 32.1mpg for the trip. I reset the trip meter when taking a small trip. Have an appointment on Tuesday at the dealer. Top shelf dealer, going to run diag on the system and check for any system updates.
