  1. I know that the 2010 Hybrid, S, SE and SEL all come with or are available with a 2.5L 152 Cu. In. Inline 4. Is the engine in the Hybrid exactly the same as the one in the other 3 sub-models? Would I be able to use the same parts on my Hybrid that are available for the other types? Thanks!
  2. Since a few threads have been made on improving the ICE by adding a turbo and using diesel fuel, I thought that I'd keep suggesting core ICE improvements. How about moving to a Diesel Atkinson Rotary Technology (D.A.R.T.) ICE engine? After reading 10 minutes on this concept, I'm now an expert. We can achieve these benefits by using DART in our ICE: High power and torqueMinimal vibrationHigh RPMHigh fuel efficiencyLow EmissionsReduced number of componentsHigh thermodynamic efficiencyMultiple Fuel capabilityVery flexible internal geometryNoise ReductionThe part that got my attention: Sure, we need more efficient batteries, but why not marry those to a more efficient ICE?
  3. I love my FFH but I must admit to buying it because the FFE's trunk space was too small. If it had the same trunk space as the FFH, I would have bought the FFE. Did you buy the FFH for the same reason?
  4. With the sudden love that diesel-powered cars are getting lately (Jetta, Passat, 328d), do you think we'll see a diesel FFH in 2015? Diesel cars are becoming known for being more efficient. The marketing seems to be pushing more miles per gallon versus gasoline cars. Why not pull a Reeses and get both! Hello EPA estimated 75 miles per gallon!
  5. I have said since January after driving our car on a long road trip and investigating the EPA test cycles and everything else that Ford took a calculated risk here. I doubt they planned for this decision to cost them upwards of $15 million in the cash payments, not counting the brand image damage, stock price hit and lost sales. I'd figure the stock damage alone could be hundreds of millions of dollars depending on how the market reacts today to this news. I wonder now how many people will lose their jobs who were part of the decision to save a maybe a few tens of thousands of dollars by not testing the C-Max separately (I have no idea what it costs a manufacturer to run the EPA cycles on their cars so I'm just guessing) when that decision will now cost Ford hundreds of millions. Some people place the blame squarely on Ford for this saying that they were unethical. The objective of a public company is to bring a return to their shareholders, ethics is not a part of business. I know that many of us likely go through yearly ethics training at work, but I also analyze and audit our employees' p-card usage and I see employees bending the rules and pushing the limits every single month. Just as individual employees think that way, the collective decision making of most companies thinks the same. If companies behaved ethically of their own accord we would never have had the Enron, Worldcom, Tyco, et al scandals. If companies behaved ethically there would be no need for Sarbanes Oxley. We aren't privy to the internal discussions between Ford executives and the EPA to know what happened, but I would venture a guess that the EPA tested the C-Max, got lower numbers and they gave Ford the chance to address it. Ford technically didn't break, or even bend, any rules, but the EPA would have had to release their results which would have made Ford look bad. I think that just as much blame belongs with the EPA as with Ford for having such stupid rules that caused this to happen in the first place. If the EPA had better rules, i.e. mandating all 5 cycles for all vehicles and no more of this letting one vehicle determine the ratings for another when the cd is so different that it will have a material effect on the results. It's also important to note that Ford isn't the only company to do this. Honda just released a new hybrid in Japan that beats the Prius on the Japanese test cycle for fuel economy, but everyone knows that the Honda hybrid will not beat the Prius fuel economy in the real world. Honda merely programmed that car to ace the Japanese tests. So what? Buyer beware is still the adage that we should all live by.
  6. Alright, newbie here, just got the 2013 Fusion se Hybrid couple weeks ago. Happy so far besides the color. I'm considering purchasing aftermarket wheels, so far I've read that I will likely loose some mpg. Mine came with the 17" wheels. The wheel I'd like to get starts at 18". There's my question. Has anyone done this? All I've read is people changing from factory 18" to factory 19" with minimal decrease in mpg. I only have 400 miles on car so far and have averaged 30mpg. I also "heard" there is a "brake-in" period, after which the mpg would increase, where's my 47 as advertised? Any truth to that? 30 is great, just wondering if it gets better, or the way I drive. My other Ford is an '05 F-350 powerstroke 6.0 diesel utility truck for work. After all the mods on that I've averaged 11mpg in town, highway, loaded, empty, whatever, 11mpg solid. If anyone has any experience or references on 17" to 18" wheel size change on this Hybrid and the effects, please share.
  7. Since we've established that your Brake Score has an impact on Fuel Economy and that a Brake Score of 80% would cost about .5 MPG over a few thousand miles like in the case of clummus I wanted to create a thread for users to share what their Lifetime Brake Score is, along with the number of miles that the aforementioned score is applicable to. Like this: Brake Score 99% over about 15,700 miles

Love the look. Motor-trend said it best - this needs to be made! They did an article on a blue one and a white concept wagon - adding the dual exhaust this week
  9. Over the last few months the forum has grown immensely with a proliferation of new users and topics. Jeff_h mentioned the idea of compiling one thread with some useful resources for new members so I wanted to put this together. This thread explains a bit of information about the EPA 47 MPG rating controversy and helps us to understand why EPA test cycles don't necessarily match your driving style This thread explains why a hybrid car is more efficient than a gas-only car. It also helps us to see how we can maximize the advantages afforded us with the dual powertrain This thread explains the operation stages of the FFH and how it warms up This thread and this thread have some excellent suggestions of how to increase your MPGs This thread explains what an eCVT is and how it works This thread explains some ScanGauge observations, the technical knowledge gained from the ScanGauge helps us understand how the car works This thread explains Engineering Test Mode, a useful tool to further understand your vehicle's operation If you have just ordered a vehicle and want updates on its progress please see this thread and this thread. Over at the Blue Oval Forum you can also request updates here You don't need to create a new thread to ask if you're getting a good deal, use this rule - it's a good deal if you're satisfied with it If that isn't enough then use www.kbb.com to figure out the invoice price of your vehicle with your options and use that as a goal in your negotiations. Some users have been able to buy below invoice, many right at invoice. That is a great deal. However, feel free to create a new thread to brag about the good deal you got, we're just trying to stop the rehashing of the same questions over and over again If you recently got your Fusion and are hearing a cracking, popping or clicking noise while braking & accelerating you can review these 3 threads: one, two & three If you're wondering about oil change intervals you can read the long topic found here, or simply remember this rule posted by another user: "changing your oil more frequently than it is necessary will never hurt your car, it'll only hurt your wallet". The FFH is equipped with an oil life monitor that tells you the % of oil life remaining based on your actual driving data. Ford also puts the guideline to not exceed 10,000 odometer miles between oil changes even if the oil life monitor indicates there is still life left in the oil. You can change your oil more often if you'd like, I do, based on your personal comfort level. If you want to know how to change oil yourself you can read this thread If you wonder if an extended warranty is worth it then you can read this thread. You can also just follow the rule mentioned above about your purchase price. An extended warranty is a good deal if you're satisfied with the price you paid for the peace of mind the warranty brings. The actual dollars paid mean little in comparison with evaluating the value you place on your peace of mind And finally, this thread is a fun one to read to see a smattering of high MPG trips. It's quite long now, but can be browsed through rather quickly because a lot of the posts include pictures which take up lots of screen space. Many of the posters here provide some detail as to what the terrain is like on their trips and this has helped us all to understand the optimum conditions for high fuel economy in the new FFH. If there is something specific you're looking for the Moderators have tried to keep threads organized in the correct topic groups (General Powertrain Discussion, Interior, Wheels & Tires, etc) to make things easier to find. The search box function in the Forum itself hasn't proven super helpful. I've found that when you do a Google search for "Fusion Hybrid" and whatever you're searching for the Forum often shows up as the top result if it is something we've answered. An example is typing in "Fusion Hybrid shark fin antenna" to Google and getting the results found here. Our topic on the subject is the first result. I hope others will feel free to add other links to this thread of useful resources for new users so that they can more easily find useful information that will benefit them
  10. I'm less than impressed with the steering wheel in my new HyTi. It is leather wrapped and all, but feels too thin in my hands (and my hands are not too big..).. There small areas on each side that are thicker which is where I guess most people hold the wheel as they drive. I would swear that the steering wheel on the car I took out for a test drive before I bought mine had a better steering wheel (more substance to it). Here's a pic. IS this what the HyTi should have installed?
  11. Here is an excellent explanation about how the powersplit device in a hybrid works. The difference between the FFH & Fusion Energi is that the MG1 is larger in the Energi which allows it to reach a higher speed in EV mode (85 MPH vs 62 MPH). This is exactly how our cars work, the difference being that the gear ratio is different because of different size MG1, MG2 and engine. Toyota and Ford both use this design for their hybrids and this technology is why the Ford & Toyota hybrids are superior to hybrids made by Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Volkswagen or GM. All the other manufacturers place an electric motor sandwiched between the engine and the automatic transmission. That is a less efficient design than what Ford & Toyota have done. The other hybrids are "one motor" hybrids, whereas the Ford & Toyota hybrids are "two motor" hybrids as they have 2 electric motor/generators as shown in the video. The next gen Honda Accord Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid introduces a two motor hybrid system for Honda, their first. It will be interesting to see if it is engineered the same as I believe Toyota and Ford own the patents for this design.
  12. Today I went to the grocery store and pulled into the parking lot behind a Ginger Ale Fusion Hybrid. As they were also parking far away from all the traffic I decided to park nearby. It was an older couple driving the car and we stopped to chat a few minutes. They just got their FFH a week ago and have only 400 miles. They were asking me about how to adjust some of the settings on the dash LCD screens. When I sat in the car to help adjust some of the settings for them I was noticing that their dash LCD screens are slightly larger than the ones in our car. For example, on the Empower screen the instant fuel economy display was larger and had larger numbers than in my car. The fuel gauge also was larger on the display. I'm almost 100% sure that in their car the speedometer was smaller and the screen were slightly wider, though not any taller. I wonder if this is a Job 1 vs Job 2 thing...although the last 6 of their VIN was 227xxx, so it wasn't built that long after our FFH with VIN 192xxx. Their car has the luxury package and the Hybrid Technology Package with the center touchscreen. Our car does not have the center touchscreen, but the dash screens should be the same on ALL Fusion Hybrids. Below is a picture of our dash screen next to a ruler. I'd appreciate if other owners could do the same thing. I'm curious to see both the size on the SE hybrids with the center console touchscreen and those without, like ours, as well as pics from HyTi owners. This seems odd and I don't think it was just my brain playing tricks on me. I really think that his dash screens are larger. Thanks everyone!
  13. My 2013 FFH was built in September 2013 I believe. I didn't take delivery until Jan. For four months of driving 6000+ miles I'm averaging lifetime of 38.1mpg. Awfully disappointing, so I began to search for answers, after taking my car in for a check engine light on, a sillenoid seal was replaced and the mechanic told me "you should see a significant improvement in MPG". False. Still same. However, I tried an experiment with the AC completely off since I read that in hybrids the AC can really really affect the MPG... for two days of driving I'm averaging about 49-51 mpg all of a sudden. Voila! It's the damn AC causing such horrible MPG (for me at least). (Which is still pretty messed up that they advertise 47mpg knowing that people use the AC). Anyway try no climate control for a tank of gas and post what your mpg is after that!!! 20% better in my case so far but I need to do a whole tank of gas!!
  14. The salesman who sold us our FFH had a real issue typing the word "hybrid". On every single document, e-mail and contract it says "hybird" instead. It has become an inside joke now where my wife and I call our car "the hybird" :hysterical: It still makes me chuckle months later and I figured I'd share so others can chuckle too. Has anyone else made this typing error or seen someone else do it?
  15. Ok I want to see what others do and how it might be affecting fuel economy. I use my remote start pretty much every day in the morning but not in the afternoon. I have not seen any real difference in fuel economy even when the ICE runs in the morning to warm up. I am curious as to how others use it and if you have seen any fuel economy difference.
  16. So far this is my best single trip mileage I have recorded 44.7 mpg. Most of those 36 miles is on the interstate at 65 mph as well. Keeps getting better and better as it breaks in! :shift:
  17. If you live in the North Texas area, bring your Fusion Hybrid to Bill Utter Ford in Denton on Saturday. They are celebrating Earth Day and I'll be talking at noon about "Owning an Electric Car in the Real World." It's a good chance to meet each other and enjoy a free catered lunch. (I saw a nice white fully loaded Titanium Energi there a few days ago too.) http://youtu.be/vgRN2SuuXaY
  18. Just wanted to say hello and that I absolutely love my new Fusion Hybrid Titanium! I have only had it about a week and a half and have 1300 miles on it. Such a great car to drive and I have averaged 39-40 mpg with 60% of that being interstate 60 to 75 mph. I use EcoCriuse as much and as often as I can.
  19. Hi there, forum folks! I just purchased a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid a few weeks ago and thought that I'd join and share my experiences. This is my first hybrid vehicle. I should say that I am a former leadfoot but have since slowed down somewhat :-) My driving conditions typically range from city to highway driving. But since I live in Chicago it's always a traffic jam for me. On the bright side, this gives me a chance to let the car flex it's muscles, so to speak. So far, I am quite happy with the Fuel economy that I get with the new Ford fusion. I am currently working on 42 mpg in somewhat warm weather. However, I do notice that it gives me worse fuel economy in colder temperatures. But I suppose that is to be expected. Overall, I do like this car. It is still going through it's break in period and I've just about reached an empty tank. Looks like I'm getting about 430 miles per fill up. It's a pretty big improvement over my 19 mpg with my old SUV :-)
  20. As some may have seen my other post, I will be buying a new car next year. But what is scaring me away from the Ford Hybrids is the cars not meeting there EPA numbers. As someone who drives a 11 year old VW Jetta TDI with 195K miles on it, I am use to 40 MPG. I average 40 MPG last tank full & this week decided to drive it like a Hybrid and got 56 MPG. Of course it was a lot of work. I am noticing the Toyota & Lexus Hybrids always make the EPA numbers. My daughter loves her Lexus Hybrid. Also a diesel always exceeds the EPA numbers with out trying. The new Passat will get 50 MPG on diesel and you do not have to baby it. I REALLY like the Ford hybrids but am very disappoint with the numbers being in the 30's not 40's. Maybe by the next year they will address this.
  21. Driving 50 miles round trip to work in traffic was killing me... And after one of my co-workers came in talking about her new Ford Fusion Hybrid, I had to get one. No questions. I loved the white one, and I named her "Eve" after the character in the Disney movie Wall-E. She looks just like the white robot, even with the leaf! Took her on her first roadtrip from Wisconsin to DC last week and my gas mileage was phenominal! I love this car!!!
  22. I will apologize before I ask the question, but I could not find any comments on this. I searched for the Fusion Hybrid Owner's manual in motorcraftservice.com. There are 3 different printings of the manual. I opened the last one. The Title is 2013 Fusion Owner's Manual, it does not say "hybrid", and I could not find a single reference to "electric engine", or the word "hybrid" in the manual. Am I looking at the correct manual?
  23. I have to say that I love my FFH Energi! We went to the auto show to look at the C Max and any other plug-in hybrids. Unfortunately, they all seemed to have the feel of the Prius, or had thin plastic parts that wouldn't last. My son pointed out that the Fusion Energi was an electric hybrid and it was llove at first sight! The seats were comfortable, the cabin was spacious, and the styling was incredible. It was definitely on our top favorites list of the day, (after the Aston Martin and before the Mercedes SLK). We drove a FFH the next day and put a deposit on a Sterling Gray Titanium Energi with all the options. Fortunately, the dealer already had one ordered that was built on March 15th. We've had it for a week and absolutely love it! The adaptive cruise control and lane keeping systems are incredible. Of course the ride is quiet when in electric mode, but even when in Hybrid mode the engine is smooth as it switches from gas to electric and back. Our main reason for purchasing was for the technology and to become more familiar with the Hybrid. Most of our drives are local, so it is easy to charge it and return with using little or no gas. On a local trip to the city and back we have been averaging 84 to 97 mpg so it a car that fits with our needs. I love this forum and have been checking several times a day for new posts and comments, so I'm honored to learn from your experiences and knowledge. Check out the album for my new baby: http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/gallery/album/275-splendida-futuris-bright-future/
