  1. There are a number of threads here on the oil changes. Very similar to a regular car. They just have panels below that you need to unbolt to get access to the filter and drain plus and are clearly marked. I was going to do mine but Ford has a Works Special where oil change, filter and tire rotation for $29.99 with mail in rebate. Since I'm coming up to my first oil change interval (10,000 miles), I'm going there on Friday. Isn't worth my time or expense to do it myself for that amount. Dan
  2. I think you kind of know the answer based upon you're last statement: "Is it a bad idea to install an aftermarket remote start when the manual cautions you not to if it is offered and installed by Ford?" Aside from the cost which you feel in high, anything it screws up in the FFH will not be covered by Ford. And since they are the ones determining why something failed you could be double screwed. Dan
  3. I think it's pretty standard. My old Buick LeSabre had a similar set up. Dan
  4. Yup, I feel the same. After using the camera for almost a year and the blind side and cross traffic radars I get extremely nervous is my other vehicle when backing out. I never thought they could be so valuable. Dan
  5. My exact reasons too. My price was a bit more, for $1295 with a $50 deductible. Dan
  6. Ok, so look at is as an engine "ON" switch. Dan
  7. Are you talking about the engine air filter? The manual states it never needs changing under normal use. Dan
  8. Totally agree. But considering that the thread topic is "What's the Most Worthless Thing on your Fusion" some sort of starting mechanism is a necessity. Key. push button or proximity fob, doesn't matter. I don't have a problem with the key. And for the wife that can't find her key, same probably goes for the cell phone. I know with my wife because when its a ringing, she's a digging. Dan
  9. Not exactly correct. At the risk of starting a Toyota vs the World discussion, the cozy relationship the NHTSA had with Toyota caused many prior complaints of runaway acceleration to be just filed away with minimal comments of "not reproducible". There are documented cases of these acceleration issues well past 4 months ago. Let's not forget the recorded 911 call of the family that was killed well more than 4 months ago that has been going through the media. While you may be skeptical of their call, they are dead. Plus there is more evidence that the bad floor mats. oops, I mean, stuck accelerator, may not be the final cause of the problem and it may be software related. Dan
  10. The turn signal noise doesn't bother me.
  11. Nice and clearly deserved, but CR is still pro Toyota. This is the results of a large group of CR subscribers continue to point out the CR is nothing but a closed club and is wrong in their survey of American cars. Subscribers are the only ones who supply them with car surveys. I drive American cars and don't send in the survey because it's a pain and won't mean anything anyway. Dan
  12. Check your sun visor. i had a rattle a couple of weeks after I got my FFH. I spent a week or so trying to figure out where it was coming from. Turns out the wife used the visor but didn't totally put it back in it's holding clip and in certain car movements I heard the rattle. Funny thing was it sounded like it was coming from inside the dashboard. Dan
  13. So does the ICE continue to run all through your commute? I would suspect once the engine warms up you'd be in EV mode. If you're never in EV mode then you will need to change your oil more frequently. I would believe in that situation, 5000 miles should be more than enough. Dan
  14. I have to second Scott's remarks. Mine works great. In fact I wish I had it on my 05 Escape. Dan
  15. Ok, well it's my understanding that the 200 hours is for the ICE being on and not the car being driven. I first thought the 200 hours would be going by pretty quickly, but when I multiplied 200 (hours) by 60 (mph) I got 12000 miles. I looked at this as a hypothetical gauge. That being said, the owner's manual lists 10,000 or 1 year between oil changes. I'm at 8800 miles and I've had the car since May 09. So I'll do my change at 10,000 miles. For me it's much easier to use that are a reminder. Dan
  16. How do you know you're getting close to 200 hours? Is this related to the 200 hours of operation between oil changes, as opposed to miles driven? Dan
  17. While I know nothing of Va lemon laws, here in NJ if you have been to a dealer for as many times and problems you have described, the dealer and/or manufacturer would have to repurchase the vehicle. I did a bit of Googling for "car lemon laws in Va" and got quite a few hits where you could contact a lawyer for free to review your problems and see if you have a case. Dan
  18. I agree with all you said. I would also like to point out that if you want to do your own oil changes get the oil and filter from Wal-mart. They have the Ford 5-20w oil and Ford Motorcraft filter FL-910 and lower prices than anybody else. Here are some instructions I copied from another thread: If you have always done your own oil changes, the FFH is no different except for removing a couple access panels on the bottom of the engine. There are 2 access panels on the bottom, one is marked "oil filter access" and the other "drain plug access" or something along those lines, and you'll need a couple small sockets to remove those. Other than that, you need a 13mm socket for the drain plug, and a FL 910 Motorcraft filter. Once done, you need 5 qts oil, I use 5W-20 synthetic. If you don't mind taking 30 minutes of your time to change the oil, you will find no surprises on the FFH over other cars you've had. Dan
  19. I have to agree here too. I've had my FFH since May 09 and during the cold days my mileage drops to mid to low 30's. In summer I get high 30's to low 40's except when it blistering hot and the air just runs. A lot has to do with warm up and driving distance. Short trips in the cold winter will always be low mileage. Dan
  20. I can't. They work just fine. I had my update done on Monday. Dan
  21. Had mine done yesterday. Took about 2 hours, plus the did a Multipoint inspection and washed the car. Dan
  22. Well I took a look at it yesterday. The pdf looks real easy, but the first statement of removing glove box door looks not at all simple. There is a retraction cable and it's housing bolted in front of the access door that the picture doesn't show. Plus opening up the glove box looks to require you to bend the rubber bumpers on each side to get past the stops. I guess a heavy hand could break them. I do have some time before the recommend replacement time since I have 8600 miles on it. Dan
  23. I hear you. But I have always at least broke even on every ESP I've bought. Usually it's the Air that dies. Almost always is a $1500 fix. Dan
  24. Ah, I didn't get it. Way too much snow up here in NJ. I hear ya, but I tried that one time and got hit with repairs costing more than what the coverage would have cost. The FFH has way to many electronics, so for the $1300 I spent it's peace of mind for me. Yours works for you and that is a good thing. Dan
