A 2-3 mile trip is just not going to yield efficient results. In cold weather, turning the heat on will cause the ICE to run, probably nonstop until the engine warms. 25 MPG should not be considered unusual over the first few miles, and for a car that's capable of 40-50 MPG, measuring a 3 mile sample will not yield statistically significant results. What's the result over 500 miles? A tankful? 5 tankfuls? Only a larger sample size can give you a statistically significant result that can be interpreted meaningfully.

^^^ That's just gonna be the way it is. At 3 miles, the car has not really heated up. With the temp set at 72, the ICE will run constantly. You're doing all the right things, but you won't gain much efficiency until it's warmer, or your trips are longer. Your only option to improve MPG for such a trip is to dress warmer, turn the temp down (or off), and use heated seats, if you have them.

FFH 2017 headlights--should I be concerned?
md13ffhguy replied to ContraBecky's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
The headlights (low beams) in my 2013 aren't that great, so I'm surprised to hear that as of 2017, that's still a concern. That said, I've never been in a situation where I felt it was a problem or putting me in peril. I've considered looking into brighter replacement bulbs (kind of hoping an original bulb will burn out), but can't see replacing bulbs that still work. So, I guess it's just not that much of a problem for me, in the end. -

Heater Blower doesnt run when car is below 32 degrees F.
md13ffhguy replied to grandpatom's topic in Climate Control
When it's cold, simply turning the heat on should cause the ICE to run almost continuously until it actually starts producing heat.- 8 replies

Never heard of that. Do you even have a disc in when that happens? Sounds like a short somewhere. I hate problems like this, since the techs usually have no idea... Btw... What's a disc? ;)

Yes, I would say you are in the sweet spot. Not sure all buyers have been aware that such a thing exists. Congrats!

md13ffhguy replied to klatoo's topic in Recalls, SSMs & TSBs
Drive carefully, I guess...I got a combined notice for both my 13 and my wife's 14. :( -
Aren't those efficiency leaves just lovely, though?!? ;)

Congrats to you! This makes me think about trading mine in, but I really need to stay on plan financially. So, please stop posting about your amazing new car. Just kidding... Enjoy! :) I'd actually love to hear more about it, especially performance/mpg impressions and comparisons.

Outside Air Temp Stuck on 50 Degrees F
md13ffhguy replied to Quiller Caudill's topic in Climate Control
I'm curious where that sensor is located. Could it be an exposed wire somewhere? Never mind, just read the other posts in the thread. Thought this was a first post when I replied. -
I typically set mine to 40. If I lose a few pounds, they're still fine. Any more than 40 and I felt the ride to be a little less smooth.

Odd. Mine have 78k and I'm just now thinking about replacements. I do drive rather gently. My wife probably drives a bit harder, and is nearing 60k.

It's frustrating when they can't replicate the issue. Hang in there and good luck! -

Well, that's what warranties are for. Hopefully they can determine the root cause and get you back to normal soon. -
4 year Ownership Reports - 2013 FFH
md13ffhguy replied to B25Nut's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
It's great to own a car 4 years with no regrets!! I just passed the third anniversary of owning my 2013, but I guess I'll have to dig up the 3 year/2013 thread to post my thoughts. :) -
NAV/GPS not rerouting in traffic
md13ffhguy replied to apilon50's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Maybe I should consider that $750 rebate they gave me to be a refund for the crappy navigation system... Besides, I've exceeded the original 47/47/47 EPA estimated MPG anyhow. There, now I'm happy. :) -
NAV/GPS not rerouting in traffic
md13ffhguy replied to apilon50's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
We paid a lot to add navigation to our cars. What? Like about a grand, plus or minus? Maybe $750? Either way, I seriously regret that decision. For the money, this system is terrible, IMHO. Otherwise, it's a lovely car. Easily my favorite car I've ever owned. ;) -
NAV/GPS not rerouting in traffic
md13ffhguy replied to apilon50's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Right. A good part of the problem lies with the traffic information available through Sirius/XM. Just not enough timely data or granularity. They often report the slowdown/backup, just not the reason behind it. -
NAV/GPS not rerouting in traffic
md13ffhguy replied to apilon50's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
It never rerouted me, EVER, despite facing HEAVY traffic most days. It just isn't a good system. I switched to Google Nav years ago... Oh yeah, and the $150 map updates. What a joke. -

My point was that a tire that combines LRR and run flat technology would seem to be ideal. -
Tire Review: Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus

But they do list them as having Low Rolling Resistance. From the description: "The Pirelli Ecoimpact icons on the sidewalls of Cinturato P7 Run Flat tires highlight their contribution to the environment with regards to energy efficiency, clean air, low noise and long wear." -
It's definitely not those buttons on the bumper fascia, since my car has ACC, but no buttons...
