What is your current MPG

Recommended Posts

Currently 35.8 - I drive one hour -One way to work (50.6 miles on 70mph speed limits) each day, but once in city i also commute quite a bit between geographically separated facilities...I make up my mpg there by using the cruise control all day to regulate my speeds..But when I hit the highway again...I lose some of that, additionally due to having a NEW CAR and giving it a good push on the highway to test it's performance...nothing overly outrageous...haven't tried to get top speedy or nothing silly, but 80-90mph is easy to drift into if you're not paying attention in this comfortable ride. Plus being very alert for road debris that may cause sidewall punctures. Absolutely thrilled with my purchase here!!

When I purchased the car it was at 32..and I reset it, and it again held about 32 the first week...but now that i'm learning how to break and drive it smoother, I think i'll even get up to the "40's"

My 2015 Fusion Hybrid SE has 950 miles now. The MPG was about 40 for the first tank of gas. It went up to 44.5 after the second fill up. Now it is 47.0 after the third fill up.

It's interesting to see the EPA numbers as 44/41. While 44 is close to my local driving, 41 is no where close to my highway MPG. I got about 48-50 on the Hwy. It's probably because I was driving slow (65 MPG at most, because it is still in break-in period).

You don't have to drive slow during the "break-in" period which is essentially non-existent now.

I had a 110 mile round trip today and got 51.5 mpg (displayed) which would be about about 2 mpg less actual based on prior calcs. It was part 70 mph freeway, 30 mph congested freeway, 50-60 mph highway, and some in-town driving. It does show that a 600-mile tank is possible under ideal conditions. I'm not shooting for that but know others are and yes, it's possible.

Gads, mine is running around 35 up and down the 2 mile mountain road. Haven't been on anything longer than 25 miles RT all city and up/down the mountain.

Currently at 47.5 mpg lifetime and 7500 miles. I see the lifetime continuing to rise and topping out probably around 50 mpg with my 80% freeway (65+ mph driving).

Well damn, and here I was extra happy with 48.5 MPG 100% brake score at 45* temps.

mine are all over the board. BUT...my trips are short (less than 5 miles). I've seen highs of 999.9 and lows of 9.8 Overall, it's sitting with a lifetime of 42.6. Since it's been on island, after a reflash, it's sitting at 46.8. Can anyone tell me what mileage is being calculated in the empower screen. It's not a trip mileage and it's not a lifetime.

It is the MPG since you last reset it and it is independent of the Trip 1 and Trip 2 MPG readings. Hold the steering wheel button down to reset it. I typically use Trip 1 to monitor my MPG for each tank of gas (reset it each time I fill up). I typically use Trip 2 to monitor a long cross country road trip. I commonly reset the Empower MPG display at the start of each day so that I can monitor a days worth of errands.

Note that the this "empower mileage" is is tied to both the empower and engage displays (it is the same for both).

The manual actually refers to this Avg MPG display as "lifetime average fuel economy," and it is also available on the Inform and Enlighten screens, as well. Not that you can't reset it daily, but I don't think Ford intended for it to be used that way. Generally, I think that's what the trip meters are for. I chose to reset mine only once, in the first day or two of ownership, so it really does reflect my lifetime (driving) fuel economy (fuel used during remote start operation is excluded).

I think some of this changed starting with the 2015s. Starting with the 2015 there is no longer an Inform or Enlighten display (there is only the engage, impower, myview and the two trip displays). Also on the 2015s there is no longer a "lifetime" concept for anything and no documentation about it in the owners manual.

In the 2015 owner's manual it is referred to as "average fuel economy":

Common Displays

Both Average fuel economy and an instantaneous fuel economy gauge are included in Engage, Empower and MyView (if selected) on the left-hand information display. They are also included in Fuel History on the right-hand information display.

Average Fuel Economy

Average Fuel Economy is continuously averaged since the last reset. You can reset your average fuel economy by pressing and holding the OK button on the corresponding steering wheel controls. For Energi vehicles both Hybrid and Plug-in Power mode operation will be included in the calculation.

Interesting. Yes, I seem to recall reading about that before. Sorry to add confusion. I do remember them also taking away the lifetime display that appears after I shut down my cars.

Sorry, had to post this one, because it was ridiculous...

Hello,

It is a lot better than my recent ridiculous ones, driving 8.3 miles on suburban streets for 80.5 MPG, and going 0.4 miles between two stores on urban streets for 999.9 MPG. I did not do anything different to get the 80.5 MPG. I noticed the EV miles were 80.7 percent of total mileage, while most of the time it runs around 60% of total mileage for my commute.

The commute to work is getting better with temperatures now in the 60s, up to 55 MPG from 42 MPG in March. The car will start off in EV mode if the outside temperature is warm enough. I can sometimes back out of the long driveway and get through at least one of the nearby traffic lights before the ICE kicks in.

Regards, Eric

You can easily get those extrene mpg numbers for very short trips if you begin with high charge and end with low charge.

Very-short-trip mpg numbers really don't mean anything.

Are you talking lifetime on the dash or manually calculated based on the amount of gas you've purchased? Either way, it seems you're doing well! If 43.6 is displayed on your dash, and you've never reset it since you acquired the car, that's excellent! My dash is currently reading 50.9, but my lifetime manual calculation is 47.2 at nearly 21K miles.

Wow, that sounds awesome. Please give some tips on how to drive our new 2013 SE (to us) home from the dealer.

We pick up our 2013 SE with 17,123 miles on it. Odometers keep totals from the day the car was made and can not be changed......legally.

Is there a mpg display that goes all the way back to when the car was made that can't be altered like miles on the odometer?

Congrats on the "new" car! #1 tip is to drive gently - easy on the accelerator and the brakes. If you don't already, consider the right lane on the highway. If you're always worried about getting places on time, leave earlier and drive more relaxed. It's a comfortable ride - enjoy it!

75.2 MPG for a distance of 24.3 miles is not ridiculous, that is GREAT!!! (as Tony the Tiger would say)

There is a "LIfetime Summary" when you turn off the 2013s, but it can be reset. You may want to reset it so that you can see what your "Lifetime" MPG & Brake Score will be with the car. The Owner's Manual describes how to reset it. The Ford Owner page also has helpful videos about the displays to help you get the most value out of them. The 2013s have by far the most information accessible on the dash.

I have a 2013 ford fusion hybrid and currently my MPG is 43.6 and the mileage is 39891.7. When I bought my car in September of 2013 it had 10,500 miles on it already with a 34 MPG average. I am just wondering how everybody else doing on there mpg.

Hi. Gotta admit this is a bit premature. I drove our new 2013 SE with a lot of concentration (and not paying the proper attention to the road) the mpg stated at 20 something and ended up at 50.7mph. couldn't believe it. But I'll pay more attention to to the road. :bliss:

In a little while you'll start doing all of that stuff out of habit :)

I get mad when my commute is under 50 mpg and it's 21-22 miles (depending on which way I pick for the day) of following people that have no clue how to drive, or at least no clue how to put their phone down long enough to drive wherever it is they're going. Traffic is the biggest cause of MPG fluctuations for me, on a good day I can get 57 (highest was 61) and if there is an idiot convention in town I get about 47. The most annoying thing I deal with are the people that cut in front of me while I'm riding out the regenerative braking. I have some days I can't even hit 80% on my brake score with the way people around here drive.

The next fun thing for hybrids is the extreme cold. I can still pull 50+ down to about 30 degrees but it's tough. Anything below 30 and the MPGs start to drop regardless of what I do. If you get snow AND traffic at the same time on a really cold day you should probably just hide the MPG display to save yourself from the depression. :)

That said I have still managed to keep my lifetime average between 49 last summer and 46 over the winter. Since I have 38k miles it takes FOREVER to get the lifetime MPG back up now, something like a week of frequent 52-53+ MPG trips to get it to jump up .1 MPG. What makes me happy is going 2 1/2 weeks without needing gas, or stopping for gas every week to put about 5 gallons in for the heck of it. Since I know that I drive roughly 250 miles each week the 5 gallon weekly fill-up is an easy way to make sure I'm having a good week. I tried using trip 1 to track MPG per tank but I keep forgetting to reset it.
