Congrats and welcome! You've set your sights quite high, which could lead to disappointment. It takes ideal conditions and driving technique to reach the upper 40s in MPG. What wheels do you have? How much highway do you normally drive, and how fast are you inclined to drive on it? Do you regularly carry passengers? These factors and more will affect your results.

The best way to save fuel would be to not drive it... The next best way is gentle on the accelerator and gentle on the brakes. Lots of other good info here, so read up! Best of luck to you! It's a great car.

Thanks!!! Loving the Fusion SE Hybrid car. Maybe I have been reading too much others posting above 50+/- MPG. I have the original wheels that came with the car. I do about 160 miles of highway driving, daily except the weekends and even then, sometimes I put in the mileage in the weekend. :) No passengers during Monday through Friday. I am not too heavy on the pedal.

 

Here is today's MPG's... 3rd day of driving.

Just purchased the 2015 Fusion SE Hybrid, Saturday and so far getting 39 MPG. It is slowly creeping up, can't wait to get at least in the 50 MPG.

Just did my first measured distance/ fuel volume caculation @ about 1600 km for the 2015 FFH Titanium.

This was only the second fill up since i got the car, and the first was not a complete fill, just wanted to try the fill port mechanics.

Got 5.9 l/100 km; 48 mpg (Imp), 40 mpg (US). (Assuming my spreadsheet and formulae are accurate)

 

I found the car values reported on the screen to be much lower (i.e smaller/ higher fuel efficiency), than the measured number. It showed average of 5.0 l/100 km.

 

Does the system need many refills to more accurately calibrate/calculate the value?

I'm also just on my first fill up. So far going by the reading, its showing I am at about 46MPG.

After a mere 4200 miles, I'm at 28.5 (gallons in, miles out). Dash readings are 29.5 and 30.7 depending on where you look.

I'll bet its not driven very far each trip with the AC on. If so thats still good gas mileage. If I drive either the MKT or Freestyle a short trip with AC on, I would be lucky to get 18.

If that's the case, a Fusion Energi might be a better choice, it would never need gas.

Currently, with mileage at 15,903 I am showing lifetime of 41 mpg. Not at all unhappy, and I regularly get in the mid to upper 40's around town. I am still in love with this car!

Yeah not bad at all luckily for me it's only a single drive that low! I have been commuting to downtown for the last 3 days and the tank is sitting at 45 so I'm not complaining.

Just got my best tank to date - 52.4 mpg actual, Cars computer reported 53.2 mpg.

Lets do this again ( accidently closed window).

 

I populated a quite large spreadsheet to calculate the absolute and average MPG for my 2014 Hybrid; traded in my 2013 eco-boost.

 

I have decided that:

 

1. I never went downhill all day; I didn't get 53 MPG.

2. I deleted a couple of unrealistic data points; going downhill all day

3. Never had every data point, every time.

4. I drive 56 miles each way, every work day: 75% Highway and 25% rural/city. Fuel economy only allows for 80/20 so isn't valid from the start.

5. My calculations include an 8 day, 6 state road trip.

6. I have remote start; specifically for the hot summer months in SE Texas so that my car is cool in July, August and September; three of this four month study.

7. My worst MPG was 33.55 MPG ... and my best was 44.97 MPG.

8. When I exclude my best and worst (often done) I average 39.783 MPG actual and 40.537 MPG calculated (By the car). This is 95.55% accuracy. O.K.

9. I conclude that this is a very good car! Calculated MPG

10. My 1999 Toyota 4Runner gets 22 MPG, My 2002 Audi TT Roadster got 27 MPG (Premium) and my 2013 Ford Fusion Eco-Boost got 32 MPG. Winning!

11. MOST IMPORTANT: If there is traffic, my gas mileage goes UP! Disclaimer: I don't live in LA... Too much traffic drains the battery and kills fuel economy.

12. Almost all of my commute is uneventful; however, I go mostly downhill to work and uphill home. Downhill in the early AM and home in the Afternoon. More traffic uphill and home? Better than a test track for fuel efficiency estimates!

Just a little more information:

 

1. 1 mile at 20 MPH. Dirt road.

2. 4 miles at 70, 60, 50, 45 and 30 MPH.

3. 3 miles at 30, 40 and 55 MPH.

4. 2 miles at 65 MPH.

5. 2 miles at 75 (I usually go 70) MPH.

6. 4 miles at 60 MPH.

7. 2 miles at 75 (70) MPH.

8. 5 miles at 65 MPH.

9. 2 miles at 45, 55 MPH.

10. 3 miles at 65 MPH.

11. 3 miles at 60 MPH.

12. 15 miles at 55 MPH.

13. 4 miles at 55 MPH.

14. 1 mile at 50 MPH.

15. 1 mile at 45 MPH.

16. 3 miles at 40 MPH.

 

That is my commute: 56 miles; turn around and go home!

 

I have two alternate routes; 1 seldom, the other kind of seldom to relax.

 

I love my "Real World" fuel economy.

This data was calculated after 35 fill-ups in 4 months. 11,264.7 total miles driven... 30K annually.

 

Last reading October 31, 2014. Done (I hope).

I purchased my car August this year , It reached 50 mpg on Oct 3th then not going up anymore, it dropped to 49.9 last week and dropped to 49.8 with two days ago , 4700 miles driven.

 

It's my first hybrid car, Yes,Now I love this car!

Same here. First Hybrid car and chose the 2015 Fusion SE Hybrid. Getting great fuel. Have been getting over 50 MPG.

I bought my 2014 Fusion in April I think, I was getting 37.6 avg mpg until a month ago or so. It has dropped about 1.5mpg in the last 2 months, I calculated it about the same time the gas stations switched to winter blend. I think we have about 3500 miles on it. I will most likely get less mpg than most of you because I live at the top of a small mountain about 1400 ft and have to drive down and back up every time we go out. We have not taken any trips over about 100 miles.

 

Has anybody else noticed a drop on mpg after the first 1000 miles or when they changed blends? I live in North East Alabama.

First tankfull all driven by me (dealer drove some on prior tank) after receiving my 2015 FFH SE 16 days ago. I filled the tank this morning at the same station and pump I used to do the last fillup. Both times I let the pump stop at the first click and didn't add more. 501 miles, 11.055 gallons, 45.3 mpg. Car computer showed 47.1 mpg, 30 miles to E.

Suburban driving with hills including town streets, 60 mph freeway, some 70 mph freeway. AC usually not on.

 

Also, I've found that the reported mpg for each short trip varies so much to be meaningless, probably because of the variation of the SOC at beginning and end.
