Over time, my fuel gauge seems to be changing. It frequently tells me i'm low on fuel and when i fill up (i do the click+5 seconds method 3 times) i only get 8-9 gallons. From what everyone else is posting, i should be filling up around 11 or 12. Is my fuel gauge wrong or whats happening here?

That definitely seems like it applies to me. My warranty ran out last week (i'm at 36,050) and the service tech told me it would cost me a $99 diagnostic fee and take at least an hour, so i'm looking at a $150-200 fix. I wish i had done this a week ago.

I believe you can extend your warranty now. It is a good idea to have a warranty on your car as long as you own it. These days repairs are so expensive and you can't work on the car yourself. :)

How many miles where on the car when you bought it? If it had more than 50 miles when you drove it home then you would still be under warranty. Our car had 200+ miles when we drove it home and thus the warranty would run until 36,2xx.

Actually, this doesn't appear to be true with Ford as you and me both thought. Ford's warranty ends at 36000 on the dot regardless of how many miles were on the car when you bought it, unlike other manufacturers. I just found this out when I had my rear bushings replaced.

Got my fourth (consecutive) 600 mile tank of 2015 today. At this date last year I was still working on my first. Hopefully, this bodes well for the rest of spring, summer, and fall. Dash display and manual calc came out to roughly 56 MPGs this tank. :)

Hello,

Two weeks ago, I got to 595.3 miles before refueling with 12.1 gallons. Only 5 miles to E, but I could not push it due to travel plans.

This morning I was at 572.8 miles with a highway trip ahead. I decided to push it with 45 miles to E. The fuel gauge was in the red, and 7 miles to E, when I refueled 46 miles later.

My first 600 Mile tank! I wanted to take a picture, but found I left my cellphone at home!

53.3 Indicated MPG
11.812 Gallons to refill the gas tank.

I noticed the initial mileage to E reading after refueling is high and quickly goes down to more reasonable numbers as you drive. It started out at 708 miles to E, then when down to the lower 600s after 10 to 20 miles.

While skimming this thread, I noticed some owners of older Fusion Hybrid's (2010-2011) said they had no problem getting into the 600 mile club or even 700 mile club with those cars, but are having a difficult time or not even close with the newer 2013 and up. Do the 2010/2011's get better milage than the newer models? I'd be open to a low mileage used 2010/2011, though I like the looks of 2013 better. Also, I notice tons of base 2010-2012's Very few loaded models. Seems odd.

Bigger gas tanks... 17.5 gallons on the <2012 vs 13.5 gallons on the 2013>

 

My guess is that the loaded <2012 models are such nice, reliable cars people drive them a long time.

Not generally. 2013 + have smaller engine (2.0 vs 2.5), better aerodynamics, better batteries (Lithium vs. Ni-MH) and can run on batteries up to 85 mph instead of only 47 in first gen.

Wow that's a huge difference! I wonder why the change since the car seems to have grown in size, but they reduce the tank size. That's strange as well. I've found a few low mileage 2010's-2012's. But the asking price is close to a new 2015 Fusion Hybrid S. The "S" model just doesn't have power seats, heated mirrors and Sirius/XM correct? All 3 are on the SE? Any other differences?

I believe power seats require an upgrade from the base SE. Check out the Order Guides here for more info. You can also check out this thread for differences of SE versus Titanium. We should maybe update that thread to include S versus SE differences.

I believe the smaller gas tank was shrunk to cut a little extra weight and that improvements in gas mileage would still allow the car to have the same range. A gallon of gasoline weighs over 6 lbs, so by shrinking the tank by 4 gallons they cut 24 lbs. of possible weight, not counting the little extra the larger tank would would weigh. It's also possible they used some of the space savings for the battery.

Thanks for the info! There are a few S models in my area that are marked down pretty low for Memorial Day. I can live with no power seats and the other stuff. The ONLY thing that I can't deal with is lack of Sirius/XM. I have an aftermarket radio now on my dash and swore I'd never again buy a car without Sirius/XM installed. I've been searching this site to see if it can be added to the stock S model radio, but it doesn't look like it. That really stinks. I'd even pay a decent amount to add it to the stock S radio after purchase. But doesn't seem to be an option. Ugh. BTW I drive upwards of 30k or so a year so satellite radio is a must!

Yes that's what I have now and I hate it!! Too small, using a remote stinks etc. That's why I said next car "has" to have Sirius/XM. I have the latest Onyx Plus too. If I'm buying again, just want it in the vehicle radio. I understand it's not an option for the S model, but too bad they couldn't have made it easy to add with some sort of module or something.

 

Besides that, I don't really see anything I would miss with the S. I did notice one brochure said "4 speakers" where as another said 6. I'd hope it would have 6. 4 would be terrible and back to the 80's haha. Another thing is there are hardly any blue FFH's around, but oddly enough 3 in the area are S models. Go figure!
