cracking noise

Drat! I was hoping I wasn't going to suffer this problem, but at 2,170 miles, I started hearing the noise. It's more of a pop or click, but it happens when slowing ust as the speed drops below 10 mph. On starting, I hear it a couple of seconds after depressing the accelerator pedal. My parts have been on order since a couple of days after the service bulletin was published, but I haven't heard a thing from the dealer. Will call them Monday.

Hmmm . . . I swear that I've now heard TWO pops when slowing. Same thing at different times on both half shafts?

Anyone else notice this?

You are not alone. Many on here have heard this - you have a lot of posts to read through :) Mine has been fixed for quite awhile now and still no issues. I was hearing 4 and 5 pops at a time stopping and starting. It usually starts with one or two....then gets worse. Makes it hard to sneak up on people and blow your horn.

Got the washers installed today. It took about three business days for the parts to arrive. The dealer suggested that both sides should be done. So far, noise is gone.

After 4900 miles and today's 720 mile trip, I heard the click for the first time. I was hoping to avoid this issue.

UpDate, Just got the Call from my Ford Dealership and the Washers,Nuts, etc. are in for the Front End clicking & popping noise. Now I need to make an appointment to get the work done.

I think I'll take some Bacon with me and some Toast Because they will have the egg on their face when I get there. Quick flash back..... They first told me that was a Normal Noise for the 2013 Fusion, the clicking and popping and that was as far as they went to investigate the noise. I had to raise Hell with them to go any further, they had Three of their Tech's try to tell me it's Normal, that's where the Egg come in to play now.

I will enjoy getting this repair done.

Just got the word from my dealer that my part came in yesterday, Tuesday 7/23 to fix the clicking/popping noise after waiting for almost a month and a half for the parts to arrive. Have an appointmnet for tomorrow Thursday 7/25 for the fix also having both of the fog lights replaced. Both fog light have gotten water in them and burned out and the one on the drivers side was also very loose, everyone may want to check their fog light out.

Just an FYI on TSB 13-5-24 - the parts appear to be rapidly showing up now, if you are waiting on the

parts or get a call or are about to go get this fixed, make sure and ask that they have all 4 of the TSB

parts. My dealer is still waiting on the 1 of the 4 as they appear to be trickling in.

 

This may save you the headache of getting to the dealer and finding out, 1 of the pieces still hasn't

come in yet.

 

Also, I am not sure if I have the problem on both sides, but ask that they get 2 sets of the parts so

as to save me the problem of having to go back for this.

I know someone whose dealer only fixed one side. The noise continued after the fix and they ended up fixing the other side. The TSB includes parts for both sides. There's a reason for that.

All done and the noise is gone. Fees a little bit tighter also when stopping, but that's probably just my brain glad to not hear the noise.

My dealer told me the TSB only includes one of each part (4 total) and doesn't mention the "other side" until the instructions where it says the other side can be fixed as well if the problem exists ...

Well....took my car in for the repairs, after months of listening to this noise and waiting for tsb. I go to pick it up and i'm told that when they took it apart i already had the thrust washers on my vehicle. Therefore they lubricated the parts and put it back together. As of now the noise is gone. I do remember hearing others say that they had tried this on their vehicles and the noise only returned later. Any thoughts???

Interestingly enough - mine stopped making the noise altogether. It's been about a month since I've heard it, and I never took it in for servicing. Not sure if it's a good thing. Or a bad thing.

The Popping Clicking Noise has Stopped.

 

I've been a little slow on this update, but the Car has been serviced.

It took them a whole Week because they didn't have the other part for the Fuel Mod. recall and I guess once they have the car in their Possession

they have to Fix a Safety Recall especially after I told them I wanted it checked out for leaks.

The Popping and clicking noise has stopped. No one there would face me about it now, just your car is ready for pick up, at a week later. Good thing they had to pay the rental car bill. I sure wasn't going to.

Now that I have the car back we are getting worse gas milage than before we took it in. They upgraded the old software on the Shifting points and change the speed up to 80 MPH before the Gas motor takes over when cruising. It use to be 62 mph now they upped it to 80 mph, which you would think it would be a good thing. We are now lucky to get 32-36 MPG and it is Very Hot here in S. Fla.

I don't think we will keep this car much longer than 18 months at the most. And will definitely NOT go back to a Ford product EVER.

 

This Local Dealership makes or breaks you on buying another Ford product. This was my Second Ford purchase in 40 years, what a mistake this was. The car itself Looks Nice and is kinda neat to drive, till you look at your gas mileage thinking it should be somewhere in the 40's at least. If you had a competent Dealership with a GOOD Service Dept. , it might be worth buying another Ford but NOT here, that's for sure. They don't want your repeat business. Well I should stop ranting here as I'm straying Off topic, again. But I feel better if nothing else. LoL.

Purchased a FFH Ti in May, 5500 miles, and yesterday heard the loud a** bang/clang noise for the first time in reverse. Happens in ICE and EV mode, only in reverse so far. Makes it even if I hear it, stop, put in drive, the back in reverse then it bang/clangs again.

 

Obviously mine was made after the TSB date of 4/14/13...anyone have this happend and what did Ford say? Debating on taking it tomorrow or next week when I'm back in town.

That doesn't sound the same, as the TSB covered a clicking sound which sounded a lot like the bouncing of a ping-pong ball on a table... which most would not describe as 'loud a** bang/clang' so maybe you have something else that occurred? Probably a good idea to make a dealer visit.

If you read MY post #390 you'll see where I said We are getting Worse Gas Milage than before the updated Software, That's NOT TRUE. I found out my wife has been Lead footing it, just to keep up with the Traffic flow on I-95 on her way to work. Our gas mileage was terrible for a week or two After the car came back from the Dealership. Now I know why. As you may or may not know I only get to drive the car on weekends, sometimes. It's the wife's car, I like my Tundra. Anyway I finally got to drive it and I got 47 MPG no Problem, so I asked her WHY are you getting 30 MPG or 28 MPG Avg. Ole Lead foot said I have to keep up with the Traffic Flow or they'll run over me. I said how did you get such good mileage before, I took the Back streets all the time then. Now I see.
We are truly getting in the upper 40's for sure IF you keep your foot out of the firewall.

Glad to hear that the cracking noise has stopped and that your car is not having issues causing low MPGs. I hope you're happier with the car now than you were a few months ago.

Yes the Cracking Popping Noise has stopped ( The Dealership Guys wouldn't Talk to me at all about it, this time. Normal Noise they said in the beginning, Twice) and I like the fact now I can get 47 MPG with it, without to much trouble. So Yes I'm starting to like it a little better, the Car, NOT the Dealership.

Sounds familiar -- when I drive may car I normally average around 50MPG, but when my wife drives it that's when something apparently goes wrong with the car (can't be Leadfoot Lucy) and it only gets about 35MPG (and she says she is trying to get good MPG too).

Well, at least we know that it's fixable and easy for a Dealer to do.

Kind of surprising how many cars needed that repair.

This is a 20 page Topic, we did a lot of head scratching about this problem in the beginning.
