acdii Report post Posted January 28, 2014 You did better than I did, got a little over 35, but it was also as cold as -21 by me. Started out at -13 then climbed(dropped) to -21 and leveled out at -17 until I got to CL. It was so cold that the car switched to S1 a couple times after coming to a stop and waiting for traffic. In fact it was so cold that I did not have any EV for 20 miles. Funny thing is, this has been the coldest winter ever since driving a Hybrid, and so far this one is doing the best at getting 35 MPG with sub-zero temps. All the others when it was this cold barely cracked 30. When the temps get back up to 30, looking forward to seeing that 40 mark again. I would call that Happy MPG talk. 4 corncobs, ptek, rjent and 1 other reacted to this
hybridbear Report post Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) I drove the Prius 1.3 miles to work today since it was -18 this morning and -2 this evening. In the morning I got 38.5 MPG (starting kinda warm from being parked underground, coolant temp about 55F). Coming home in the evening the coolant started at -2F and I got 14 MPG going home haha that was amusing. And I'm happy cuz I didn't walk in this ridiculous cold and my wife wasn't inconvenienced to drop me off & pick me up. acdii Report post Posted January 29, 2014 HAHA My HyTi did better than your PpPppRius! LOL I wonder, if you sprinkle seeds on it, will it become a Prius Pet?
hermans Report post Posted January 29, 2014 I reset my gas mileage on Jan 1st. for the Winter. At the time I had no idea the Vortex was coming. As of last night I'm at 40.6. That's on the FFH. I didn't expect this good of mileage. I'll reset it again in late Spring. I have no idea where my wife is on mileage.
Sleddog Report post Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) I did a short trip, 2 miles, yesterday and had 91.1 mpg. My last trip to work and back was 55.8 and 58.9 mpg. I'm very happy with what my FFH is getting for mileage. I have 6600 miles on it so far. acdii Report post Posted February 13, 2014 15* this morning, I think my car was enjoying the balmy weather, she got 41! I had a lot more EV than I have for weeks too. I didn't think it would be possible, but this one is doing better than the 2010 in the cold. I figured it would be around 36 most of the time when below 20* but seeing 41, that makes me happy for sure! The 2010 would always be between 34 and 37 when below 20*. 1 ptek reacted to this
corncobs Report post Posted February 13, 2014 Same here "warmer" temps and an awesome grill cover ;) and my LIR seems to like it. Last night I got 46 and this morning I didn't do the climate on/off dance and got 44.6. 1 acdii reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted February 13, 2014 I took Kishwaukee this morning, route 14 is getting pretty rough and I dont want to risk blowing out a tire or worse busting a wheel. It takes a little longer, but there was no risk of getting damaged. It's the first time I took it in a long while so unsure if that helped or hurt the MPG. In any case, the car is clean and shining again, and getting good gas mileage and the sun is out. All is good. 2 hybridbear and corncobs reacted to this
ptek Report post Posted February 14, 2014 A new best of 42.8 MPG this morning (bought the FFH in late December). 24 F here this morning and I used the EBH for 3 hours before heading out. The car seemed to drop into EV mode much easier and hold onto it longer. Should be even warmer next week. Coming home, between the ICE on due to the heater and running in ICE High mode, the battery gauge was completely full. Even the little button on top was colored blue. I hadn't seen that before. 3 rjent, corncobs and hybridbear reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted February 14, 2014 More happy talk. had a good trip this morning, stupid schools have the kids OFF today because Monday is a holiday. I dont understand WHY they have a 4 day weekend, no wonder the kids are coming out dumb. In any case had to take them to the inlaws so it was a long morning trip. Happy to say the car did very well today, now with temps above 0 seeing near, at and above 40 again.
Sleddog Report post Posted February 15, 2014 Thanks all! I'm regularly getting over 58 mpg on my daily 28 mile drive home. The morning is usually 50 plus. The driving techniques I learned here to get this mileage has become second nature. I've even started to drive my F150 the same way. I'm not sure if it helps the mileage, but it can't hurt. 3 ptek, acdii and hybridbear reacted to this
B25Nut Report post Posted February 18, 2014 On my morning commute today it was 48 degrees and I got 47.3 mpg, my highest ever. Last year at this time I never got over 38 mpg in the morning. A two mile trip to the Post Office an hour ago got 54.3 mpg. Maybe my new Air Intake does more than give me a quieter ICE.. 4 hybridbear, corncobs, jeff_h and 1 other reacted to this

corncobs Report post Posted February 18, 2014 Ever since we came back 01/10 my avg. was going down due to the arctic cold 44.5 > 43.5. This afternoon was first day well above freezing in weeks and my avg. went up .1 just before pulling in.
hybridbear Report post Posted February 19, 2014 Did a couple of short trips this afternoon, 6.2, 5.0 and 1.2 miles. Got 47.2 MPG for the day. The first two trips were both about 48 MPG. The outside temp was 39 degrees which was certainly a factor. It seems that above freezing is a tipping point for this car, below 32 the MPGs are barely above 40 for me, but once the temp hits 32 then the MPGs jump up to 45+. 1 corncobs reacted to this

Actually I think a temp of 50 is maybe another tipping point (you'll see that, come July or so)... it was a nice 55 degrees on the way home today and when in hybrid mode I would say it jumps into EV a lot quicker and more often when the outside temp rises to a milder temp like 50 or so. I got 81 MPG on the way home but of course 20 or so miles of Energi battery sure helps - tomorrow supposed to be over 60 in the afternoon and I bet it will be an even better MPG day, we shall see. 1 hybridbear reacted to this
