acdii Report post Posted November 6, 2013 WOW! rain sux. Yesterday temp was the same as today, got 47 yesterday, no rain. Today, rain, lots of it. 38.8 OUCH! Rain was so bad at one point the blind spot malfunctioned, and both mirrors were lit up for at least 20 minutes until they reset. I hate rain. It also seemed that if a light would turn red, it would do so, and usually out of sequence from the norm so I wound up not having enough time to brake properly, so my brake score was lousy too. I hate rain. :) Car still handles it quite well, except for that damned windshield fogging up all the time.
Toz Report post Posted November 6, 2013 38.8 OUCH! I would just die to get that kind of milage in my current car. My drive to work today was 24MPG. Really looking foward to ONLY getting 38MPG in my FFH 2 hybridbear and corncobs reacted to this
Riggo Report post Posted November 6, 2013 I routinely get 44-50+ mpg on my work route every day, it seems the short trips are the ones that kill me. Nothing I can really do about that, maybe get some of Coach's players to push my car around on the short trips? 2 jeff_h and hybridbear reacted to this

acdii Report post Posted November 7, 2013 Most pleased. This morning was the first of many where it was below 30*, and I am pretty sure the winter fuel is in the tank already since even in warmer temps I noticed a slight drop. Average this morning was 29*, I did notice that it took longer before I was able to get full EV, so the Lion packs must have higher resistance when cold, but EV returned to normal later during the trip. On stretches of road where I could keep it in EV while maintaining speed, I couldn't this morning, which tells me the pack had lower capacity(higher resistance). Even so, The future looks promising that I can be where I estimated this car can do in the winter. 38-43, as long as it doesn't rain like yesterday, or snow. The rain really killed it yesterday. Of course when I made NO attempt at getting good MPG on the way home didn't help either. 1 corncobs reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted November 7, 2013 When your windshielsd fogged up, was the claimate control in "Auto" ? My 2010 even defogs automatically in "Auto".I never had to do anything in the 10, the windows never fogged. I did find a good setting though that helped this morning. I manually set the floor, then the defrost and the AC was not on, and that made a big difference. I also remote started the car to warm it this morning. BTW, the idle time during warm up is not counted on the trip summary( dont know if counted at all on the overall trips either), so it isnt factored in when you shut off the car. elle Report post Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) Noooo! After 75 pages, I cannot believe that my silly, little thread has been idle since early November. Bring on the happy talk, please! Okay, I'll add some. It's been getting colder here in Sacramento, with a real cold snap over the past two weeks, but I've still managed to get over 40mpg on several of my work commutes. I clocked in with 50+ on one recent trip. Sometimes I still end up in the high 30s, but it's never lower than 38 or so, unless the trip is super brief and I haven't been paying attention to my driving style. Yep, I'm happy, and even more happy with the recent SW upgrade. How about glimpses of happy talk that coincide with the nicer weather? When the weather stays above freezing, the tank MPGs are very good... when the temp dips, not quite as good - here's the graph from fuelly of the last several tanks: 2 hybridbear and elle reacted to this

elle Report post Posted December 14, 2013 Yeah, I can see how the onset of winter might dampen the Happy Talk Spirit a bit. Still, it's worth noting that any car will experience a dip in performance when faced with the extra burdens of keeping a cabin and engine warm in very cold weather. So we still should be happy. Actually, I'm more and more happy as time goes by, because I read here and see that my averages are right in line with what many others are experiencing. The software upgrade improved things quite a bit, too. Plus, I get to ride in a nicely heated seat all winter. I have to say that these seats heat up a lot better than the seats in my old Volvo 960 did. I get toasty warm in a hurry, and in the morning I use the passenger side seat heater to keep my breakfast warm after I stop at the drive through on my way to work :) 2 gadgetguy and hybridbear reacted to this

I know my Fuelly sig doesn't look like I would be happy (I have missed a couple fill-ups) but I have done a lot of long interstate driving at 75-80 because I need to get there in a hurry lol.... On normal around town/short highway drives I easily can obtain 50+ mpg. I love my car! 3 hybridbear, corncobs and B25Nut reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted December 14, 2013 I stopped adding my fill ups to Fuelly when the cold weather hit. I like it to stay at 42 for now. :) Overall very pleased with the MPG I am getting, before I got the first one I said, I would be happy between 38-43 year round, and that is what it gets, even when I dont even bother with trying like I did last week. Too damned cold to be futzin with watching the EV and things like that, and still manage 40. :) What a difference a good running car is. Actually I stopped adding to fuelly for both cars, quite satisfied with both. 1 elle reacted to this

elle Report post Posted December 15, 2013 Okay, Miss Elle (yes, I'm a Dallas fan) how cold is a "real cold snap" in Sacramento? ;) Here in Minneota at my house several recent nights have been -10 to -13 degrees. Typical Sacramento winter weather consists of temperatures mainly in the 40s with an occasional brief dip to freezing, but it almost never gets below 33 or so. We might wake up with a bit of frost on the windshield a few days. The past few weeks, though, saw nighttime temperatures in the mid 20's night after night, for about 10 days or so. It killed my grapefruit tree. So, not anywhere like Minnesota temperatures, or even like what I endured when I lived in Philadelphia, but cold enough for here! 2 corncobs and hybridbear reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted December 16, 2013 Somebody call Alaska and tell them to take their weather back, they can have it! Don't know if its just me, but this seems like the coldest December ever. I know there were cold snaps, but not 20 days in a row below freezing, let alone all the snow on the ground, we rarely have a white Christmas around here. 1 elle reacted to this
elle Report post Posted December 16, 2013 Yup! I've only been here since 2006, but this is by far the worst winter I've experienced in Sacramento. BTW, it looks like I'll have to keep coming back her throughout the winter to keep this thread in its proper place of honor, so that it's ready for us come spring ;) 1 jeff_h reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted December 17, 2013 OMG OMG OMG Panic, I only got 34 MPG tonight! Of course it was snowing, people were driving like idiots and I dont think I averaged more than 3.5 MPH, took me 2 hours to go 35 miles. Actually it did much better than I thought it would. B25Nut Report post Posted December 17, 2013 The 2014 FFH is doing good on the government MPG site: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?action=mpgData&vehicleID=34312&browser=true&details=on 3 out of the 4 cars are getting above 45 mpg. The only 2014 TCH on the site is reporting 29.7 mpg (so sad). 1 jeff_h reacted to this

acdii Report post Posted December 18, 2013 This car still amazes me. This morning I didn't give a damn about MPG, drove it like everyone else, doing above 60 MPH, accelerating harder than I usually do, speeding away from lights(we were running late this morning), and I STILL managed to get 41 MPG! :) Love this car! 1 jeff_h reacted to this
jsolan Report post Posted December 18, 2013 My winter average has been 38-41 mpg so far depending on the type of miles. At first I was sad because of the dropoff, but in reality those are the numbers I EXPECTED to get with the car year round. I did all my cost based analysis at 38 mpg compared to 28 mpg for the 2.0 ecoboost (possibly high for that). Since I'm actually at around 42-43 year round average, I suppose I should still be happy. I drove on the PA turnpike through a snowstorm the day before Thanksgiving. That was my worst tank ever and STILL got 36 mpg. I was telling that to some friends and family over Thanksgiving and they were amazed, they'd kill for a 36 mpg tank. 1 B25Nut reacted to this
