  1. That sounds all well and good, but what happens when the station is farther away than what the remaining charge in the HVB can take you? The car does not have a traditional starter motor, so with a depleted HVB, wouldn't you be screwed?
  2. Heat is a byproduct of all ICEs. Car heating systems are designed to transfer that heat to the cabin. To the extent that our FFHs can conduct that transfer without causing the ICE to run solely for that purpose, well, that's what I'm calling "free "
  3. That's the strategy I employ - trying to only use "free" heat. I think it's a good idea. Another scheme they might consider is to heat the cabin more gradually.
  4. Congratulations higheroctave32!!! Feels good, no? Me... I just dropped in to say goodbye to this thread for a while. Barely made it into the 500 mile club yesterday. Cold weather is a bummer...
  5. That would be quite a gesture. Probably the most disappointing thing about the Synch/MFT combo in my 2013 is the lack of apps. This would not be even half as disappointing if I didn't know that the CARS WITHOUT MFT HAVE MORE CAPABILITY with regard to app compatibility. Would Ford actually make this move, or would they just hope that devotees of the car will upgrade to a newer model sooner? We shall see. Not holding my breath.
  6. That was my first thought, too, and that was before I got to your post. That's the kind of stuff you have to be on the lookout for. It looked like the PT driver might have been trying to get around a vehicle that had broken down.
  7. You're right. Who in their right kind would make that up?!?! I look at it this way... Makes a great story! Hopefully, the worst is behind you.
  8. They're only going into plastic, so it might only take something close. Still, I believe the 2013 thread indicated T30 and that's what I used. I'm still probably a couple of months away from an oil change for my wife's 2014, and I'm too lazy to crawl under it to check now...
  9. Don't take this 6 month old thread so seriously... seems like nothing more than some fun banter.
  10. ^^^ Right, i remember that, which is why I said "while the vehicle is in motion..." This thread started with the premise that all that was needed was the right app, and one had finally come along. Then there was an assertion that this only worked with an old version of said app. Not that easy!
  11. I just checked out TR's website, and the OE size was listed as 235/50-17... My car has 225/50-17, I think. TR recommends 225/55-17 for snow tires, which honestly, I don't see as a problem. They would likely provide improved traction over exact OEM size. I think it's odd that your installer refused to mount them. Suggested wheels from TR for those tires vary in width from 7" to 7.5" to 8". I'm not sure what the width of the stock rims is, but I don't think this should present a problem. You may want to consider consulting another installer.
  12. That's fairly typical. My dash numbers are routinely 2-4 MPGs over calculated. It can vary wildly from tank to tank, based on the volume pumped. Even over the long run, my dash is 3.3 MPGs higher than calculated.
  13. Besides, this type of repair is supposed to be temporary. It can get you home and/or a repair facility, where the tire should be dismounted and replaced or otherwise repaired.
  14. I want a Ford EcoBoost Police Interceptor for my daily driver. That would be the only thing I think I'd trade my FFH in for! :)
  15. I'm still trying to comprehend how an app from a device would override the system and display on the dash screen while the vehicle is in motion. What kind of connection would this be? Video over Bluetooth? RCA jacks? USB? What input would one select in MFT? There is no provision for any of this in current versions of MFT, as far as I can tell.
  16. Or, that rare occasion when you get two flats. It's happened to me... twice! Those were not happy days. Although, come to think of it, sealant would not have helped, since both occasions involved punctured sidewalls...
  17. Not only that, but the mobility kit could come in handy under certain conditions. It could help you get off the expressway, where it may not be as safe to jack up and swap in a spare. Or maybe get you going more quickly or conveniently if you go flat on a dark, desolate road or in a downpour. I'd keep it, too.
  18. I'll get it checked out sometime soon, probably in conjunction with a couple recalls. I honestly believe the amount of fluid lost is negligible. We'll see. Maybe I can get a service appointment aligned with my holiday leave in December. Hard to go without a car...
  19. Changed my oil yesterday and was curious what I'd see when I dropped the large cover underneath the engine compartment. I had previously noticed some evidence of fluid leakage around the transmission case halves during the previous oil change. Not that I thought it would get better, but I don't think it was significantly worse. Snapped a few pics. I was thinking of re-torquing the bolts, but was unable to easily find the specs, so I simply took a 13mm hand wrench to each of the three bolts you can see here. I wasn't concerned about over-torquing, since I couldn't get much leverage, but I was surprised that I was able to snug them just a hair tighter. I have almost 30K on the car now. I'm assuming this would fall under the 5 year/60K drivetrain warranty, so I plan to keep an eye on it. If it seems to be mitigated by snugging the bolts, I may not worry about taking it to a dealer, since it's even chances they'll muck this up (or something else) one way or another.
  20. Android Auto vs ap Apple CarPlay http://www.techtimes.com/articles/16590/20140926/android-auto-carplay-compared-one-want-car.htm What's unclear to me is where things like MFT and Sync fit in... Will these systems function without smartphones?
