  1. Isn't it strange that you have to unfriend people who should mind their own business in the first place? Too many things have been politizied.
  2. I discussed this with a service tech at dealer and his advice is to follow the 10,000 mileage (odometer) and pay no attention to any other factors. I know from my and the experience of many enthusiast friends of mine that synthetic oil has very long life oil. One friend with a high performance ford side oiler (very expensive engine) actually is comfortable with simply changing the filter and topping off and going over 10,000 miles on the oil. In my Mustang GT I drive with full confidence that the engine is fully protected at high revs, and the oil will not let me down. It stays clean, and even in that engine Ford recommends a 10,000 life span. I drive that car hard regularly and have had no issues vis-a-vis the oil. It simply works and holds up well. On these little hybrid engines I can't imagine any issues with synthetic oil not being superlative in every way.
  3. Got the update, took about 45 minutes, and the dealer checked a number of other items as well, such as multipoint Inspection, tires, brakes, and battery test. Everything appeared to be done perfectly. Took a short trip (150 mi) at speeds not exceeding 65, with average MPH of 60. AC set at 73, with 3 adults, some heavy rain, and luggage. The trip back and forth gave me an average of 44 MPG, with the first half being driven with no particular attention to mileage. The second half I was driving and doing nothing exceptional to try and get better mileage. I am very happy with the mileage and overall performance since the powertrain control module calibration (service action 13807) was done. In town driving seems to be about the same, with maybe a tendency to slip into EV mode more readily.
  4. I know the topic of which wheel and tire to use has been covered thoroughly. My intent is to break out into an easy to find new topic, just for finding the 135/90R-16 Continental CST17 compact spare tire (CST). I have gotten great advice on other threads, and what I found right now is that the wheel may be ordered through Ford, with good availability. The tire though is hard to find, either through Ford, a Conti dealer, or even Ebay (which may be used/old stock) I went to my Nissan dealer, after learning that the Nissan Altima uses this tire for their CST, and was able to order one with a 4 day delivery date, without a wheel of course. To be honest I did not price either the wheel or tire, since for me this combo is a must have before I take any out of town trips. I believe this will be close to $300 when done and mounted in the trunk with a jack. The dealer has good availability here in South Cackalacky, so hopefully that will be true elsewhere.
  5. Thanks Erich, I did not get a response from one junk yard, but as I posted earlier I did get the tire and wheel ordered. I appreciate the suggestions.
  6. Ford dealer has ordered the wheel and Nissan dealer has ordered the tire. It should be mounted and in the trunk in a week!
  7. For me, the point of when it is empty is moot, since I start getting nervous with any car at the 1/4 or below level. I rarely if even get to the point where I see a warning, and if traveling long distances do my best to plan fuel stops for efficiency and to avoid having to worry. I have run out of gas in my life, and it's not an enjoyable thing to do, so I try to keep that in mind.
  8. What you refer to as fortunate reminds me of why I moved from Minnesnowta- weather! I like your mileage figures tho. Here we have long hot and humid Summers. When I get up about 7 the temp and humidity are often the same, around 75 to 80. The temp goes up during the day, but the humidity usually doesn't (very much). A couple of years ago I made a trip back to WI/MN/ND in July and the temps were in the 50's! Hated it! Relatives in Bismarck opened their windows, welcoming the 55 degree air. Now, let's talk about fortunate when it comes to Spring/Fall/Winter here. I am looking forward to a lot of comfortable weather, with the windows down/sunroof open, and great mileage.
  9. My Mustang GT does learn driving style, and will definitely change some parameters if it is driven hard (acceleration) 3 times in a row. It is documented in the manual. Course, when I used a tuner and put in a cold air kit none of that matters much now. But, not surprising that the FFH may do some learning also. Don't know if that is documented anywhere, but your experience makes me wonder.
  10. I almost always use ECC when safe to do so. I like that it can kick in at as low as 20 MPH for resume! I tweak it by clicking a couple of miles over my desired MPH, then back it down a little for EV to kick in. As far as how the ECC resumes I usually find it varies as to whether or not I stay or go into EV. Hard to predict, but I prefer to let it do the driving instead of trying to improve on it myself. I have always enjoyed using resume for cruise control, with any of my cars. I do have some concern about how slowly I accelerate, and generally prefer to get up to speed somewhat 'normally', if there is such a thing. No fast starts, and no real concern about anyone behind me, but also no constant attempt to stay in EV. My lifetime is just a tiny bit under 40, and I have many times gotten into the mid to upper 40's. I am very happy with the mileage I have been getting, so will continue using the ECC frequently.
  11. The traffic may suck, but your mileage sure doesn't! good going!!
  12. Thanks, altho I should have looked myself. Appreciate it. Found one from a 2010, so not too old. Emailed asking for confirmation and used/new condition. Dealer has the wheel already.
  13. Those are the types of drivers that perhaps should put on some soothing music and relax... As soon as possible when I see a light approaching (a red one) I start coasting. If at a light I never creep, and always wait for the '2nd start' that occurs after the light changes. Creeping can also lead to rear end collisions, so there is another reason I don't move until the traffic is actually proceeding. Sounds kind of smug I know, but life is just more pleasant that way for me. I do the same with whatever car I drive, and in the Fusion get the added benefit of increased mileage. Welcome to the forum AROB I learned long ago to not push other people while in a car. It can lead to very dangerous situations,
  14. Well, Tire Rack is out and best estimate is months (2 or 3) Anyone have luck recently elsewhere? Ford dealer can get wheel, but they can't find the tire either. I think they found one in Puerto Rico! Thanks in advance

  16. Just contacted my dealer via their website and will see what they say about ordering, mounting and test driving the spare combo. I am NOT traveling out of town next month without it. Hate to say thanks for the horrible story just posted about having a flat, but it certainly got me off my duff about getting a spare in the trunk. Also going in the the software update on Monday, and will post an update in the appropriate thread. This forum is amazing, and probably the best of its kind in 'autodom' that I have seen. Oh, by the way, I got some of that 303 Protectant, and have to say it is great for my convertible top, helping to clean it, AND great on the black interior of the Fusion. Off topic I know, but what are ya gonna do?
  17. Are you talking about driving on Park or Portland Avenues? Used to time those just right, and cruise along for many miles.
  18. "Ginger Ale". Makes me want to belch! Haha
  19. Me too, here in Myrtle Beach area. Did see an identical colored hybrid in my community tho. May have to look up the owner.

    MPG Happy Talk

On the way home from dinner tonight-- temp 93, auto-started, AC set to 74, drove up to 60 mph, and total trip of about 12 miles. MPG of 59.8!! No "granny" driving either.
  21. I did hear something running, once, in that area. It was when the car was just a couple of weeks old, and I think I opened and closed the rear door to listen. It stopped when I shut the door if I remember correctly. No idea if there was a correlation. I had just come home from a fairly long drive. Never heard it again, and I have listened for it a couple of times. Fuel pump wouldn't be likely, but the fan is.
  22. A friend of mine has one of these hooked up in his Honda truck. It gives an amazing amount of info, not the least of which is the awful fuel economy his truck gets!
  23. Michael, welcome and try to take your time learning about all the tech these cars have. Some members have reported running down their batteries while parked and trying everything out. It's a blessing and a curse!
  24. My perspective is that Ford has set this car up to look like it gets great EPA numbers, which it does, but which are not necessarily real world figures. I know that is the way of the world right now for any U.S. car manufacturer. Going in, I did not expect to get 47/47 all day any day. With a couple of months on the car, NO problems or complaints, no defects, mileage lifetime just under 40 for mostly city driving, AND great AC here in the very humid south, I am extremely happy. Some days I get well over 40 MPG, some just under 40. Once in a while closer to 50. Gas prices are basically no longer of much concern to me, unless I am hot footing the Mustang of course. I am seeing what I expected, usually more, driving a car that exceeds my expectations in almost every area, and think it is the best looking family sedan available. Whether the update makes any difference other than being able to engage EV at over 62 MPG is of little to no importance to me. Not to take anything away from anyone else here, believe me. I like this blurb I read from the ExtremeTech site: If Ford seems like it’s getting a disproportionate amount of bad publicity for its hybrids and infotainment systems, there’s a reason: Ford is pushing harder than any other US automaker to redefine the car and the driving experience, especially in making entertainment and navigation useful and affordable. Ford Sync and MyFord Touch are tougher to learn than Ford engineers believe, but once you’re past the learning curve, no US automaker offers more good stuff such as two USB jacks and free emergency crash notification using your cellphone. With hybrids, it’s easy to get low mileage because hybrids demand good driving habits, in particular steady starts and light braking. Brake too hard or too late and the regeneration system can’t turn as much kinetic (moving) energy into power in the battery. Keeping that in mind, to reiterate, I am not feeling let down by the mileage. I like the challenge of driving smarter not harder, and the anticipation of turning off the car and seeing what my trip mileage was. This forum has some great members, great advice, passionate postings and true love for members cars. Is there more you can ask for? Post-update, I will track mileage and report, as many others have. I don't expect much, so I probably won't be disappointed.
