  1. I decided to simplify & move the basic information that we learned about getting a larger than stock Spare Tire and Wheel. The objective was to get a spare tire that is as close to the 18" optional W/T as possible and still have it fit in the trunk. The humungous working Thread with all the Posts is seen here, this new Thread only has the final, workable solution I came up with. It may be done another way by someone else, this is only my version of getting the job done. Information about obtaining a Jack and Lug Wrench is in the other Thread. ======== Took long enough to get this project finished but now it's complete. The Foam Insert is out, the spare is in. The exact part numbers that I have on my receipt are: QTY - FP NUMBER DESCRIPTION 1 - CV6Z-1015-B T16" x 4" WHEEL ASSEMBLY 1 - 9002-0340377-000 T135/90R16 tire, Continental My Dealer mounted/balanced the bigger than stock Continental T135/90-16 spare tire on a T16x4T standard Fusion spare tire wheel (CV6Z1015B). 1. Does it fit in the trunk wheel well?' YES, exactly, with no room to spare (pun intended). 2. Is this larger spare tire/wheel the same size as the optional 18" wheel/tire on my car? Almost, this wheel/tire setup is only 1/2" difference in diameter. Note: The standard Fusion spare tire/wheel combo is over 2-1/2" smaller than my optional 18" tire/wheels. That is a huge difference in size. * Recommended tire pressure is noted on the sidewall of each brand tire. 3. How does it drive on the car? Pretty well, with hands off the steering wheel it drove straight. Again, stopping with hands off the steering wheel showed only a slight tug to the direction of the spare. The dealer tire tech and I drove around for about 10 minutes with speeds up to 50mph. Handling was acceptable, stops were easy, all was fine for a Temp Spare. I guess we didn't drive long enough because the TPMS light didn't come on, nor did any other dash alerts. Stowing the spare in the car: It's a snug fit, does not need the hold down screw. That's good because I stowed it inverted, so the inside of the wheel is up, allowing some storage. I was able to get a small air compressor, some road flares, jumper cables and funnel to nestle in there, all level and flat. Where to stow the Jack/Lug Wrench combo? I did it this way and it works just fine. Edit: What Jack to use? The Jack can be purchased from the Ford Parts counter, just use the standard 2013 non-hybrid Fusion Jack/Lug Wrench Combo for reference. The integrated Lug Wrench is a standard 3/4" model. They were also used in other Ford vehicles (i.e., earlier Fusions) and can be acquired used from auction sites if you know what to look for. Where I got my Jack Kit, a picture of it, from what used car it came from and use of the Jack/Lug wrench combo is here. Edit: This picture is not current. I have since removed the bulky TMK and added some other tools, smaller air compressor & other helpful items.
  2. The FFH Owner's Manual does not provide a wheel changing guide because the FFH is equipped with a Tire Mobility Kit instead of a mini-spare tire and jack/lug wrench. The standard non-hybrid Fusion OM has tire changing guidelines and lug nut torque spec's, they are copied here. The following illustrations are directly from the non-hybrid Ford Fusion Owner's manual, pages 290, 291, 292. The wheel lug nut torque specifications are included in both Owner's Manuals and are exactly the same, page 296 in the FFH OM and page 292 in the FF OM. For further clarification, download the entire non-hybrid 2013 Ford Fusion Owner's Manual here. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/catalog/owner_guides/13fsnom3e.pdf Note: Some wording will not apply to your car or situation.
  3. My car has the original FFH 17 inch wheels. I picked up my spare tire "donut" from my dealer today, they mounted and balanced the wheel and tire for me, they don't buy it as a unit, they buy the tire and the wheel separately. the cost was $255.00 It's a T16x4T wheel and the tire is T125/80/D16 97M. The overall size of it measures 24 inches and the tire that is on my car now measures about 25.5 inches. The part number of the wheel is CV6Z1015B , the tire number is UHK16 12580 (S400 BW). The spare tire inflated fit perfectly into the spare tire area after I took out the Air pump and the insert. I already have a jack and wrench. I called the dealer today to make sure the overall size was OK, since it is about an inch and a half smaller than my original, they said the size is fine, I can drive on the donut without worry. So I did that, I put it on the right front, not the left front because I didn't want to head into oncoming traffic if there was a problem. Off I went, well it pulls like hell to the right when breaking and it goes to the left when accelerating. But it is totally drivable! Remember, this is for emergency use only. but I would not be afraid to have to put 50 or 100 miles on it if I had to. I really gave it the test! Drove it for 20 miles round trip on winding country roads and some decent straightaways. Handling quality seemed fine, it's the breaking that takes getting used to. I got up to 70 mph and the handling was fine, I took the 35 mph parts of the road at between 50 & 60 mph, all was well with the handling I even came around one turn on the 35 mph section doing 50 mph and had a traffic jam in front of me, the car stopped and handled perfectly now that I was used to the pull to the right. Accelerating was fine too, floor it from a dead stop and get up to 60 mph without a problem, just have to compensate steering a little to the right. At about 17 miles my sensor light came on warning of a tire pressure problem, that's because there is no sensor in the spare,
  4. After reading a lot here about a spare tire/wheel for my 2015 FFH (with 17" wheels), I bought a 2013-14 Ford Focus Mini Spare Tire/Wheel off ebay, arriving next week. $85 including shipping. I forgot about he foam thingy I've read about.(I assume it doesn't have that). From what I read here, it's supposed to fit both in the trunk wheel well and on the car. Everyone agree? What will I be missing functionally by not having the foam thingy, whatever it is?
  5. Can anyone provide a summary for how to obtain a spare tire and jack for an FFH with the normal 17" wheels. The threads on the topic are long and cover all sorts of ground. I'm not going to spend $500-$600 for new Ford stuff, so want to know the specs of what to look for used.
  6. I know the topic of which wheel and tire to use has been covered thoroughly. My intent is to break out into an easy to find new topic, just for finding the 135/90R-16 Continental CST17 compact spare tire (CST). I have gotten great advice on other threads, and what I found right now is that the wheel may be ordered through Ford, with good availability. The tire though is hard to find, either through Ford, a Conti dealer, or even Ebay (which may be used/old stock) I went to my Nissan dealer, after learning that the Nissan Altima uses this tire for their CST, and was able to order one with a 4 day delivery date, without a wheel of course. To be honest I did not price either the wheel or tire, since for me this combo is a must have before I take any out of town trips. I believe this will be close to $300 when done and mounted in the trunk with a jack. The dealer has good availability here in South Cackalacky, so hopefully that will be true elsewhere.
  7. So I recently purchased a 2013 FFH, was told in November when I ordered the car that there would definitely be a spare tire in the car. Low and behold, after I picked it up from the dealer I get an air pump with an aerosol can. I have had blowouts, nails in sidewalls, and midnight flats. I want my spare tire. Has anyone actually replaced the patch kit with a spare tire?
