    Zaino How To

    Hey, Thanks for the clinic!
  2. Ours tells me to stop for a cup of coffee. I scratched my head on lane keeping when I 1st used it because it only "yelled" at me. Later I found out that was the factory default was Alert only. I reset the properties to Both Alert+Aid, then finally to Aid only as I still didn't like it "yelling" at me. I'm gonna check it out on the curves.
  3. You may have it there. We tend to make multi-stop local trips. The 1st leg usually shows disappointing mileage, say less than 35 mpg. The last leg is usually 50+ mpg. I never thought anything about it believing it all evened out.
  4. Okee dokee mokee's on the map.
  5. My wife washes the car at least once a week 'cause she loves to play with water and it's her car. :headscratch: I don't know what she uses. I'm allowed to drive it when we go out 'cause she doesn't like my helpful comments about her driving. I guess I'd have to say her must haves are the antenna balls she has for each holiday along with the sun glasses collection..
  6. Thanks GrySql - I find a good belly laugh in the morning is very healthful! :headspin:...Let me be clear about saying that we could not be luckier in the choice of our moderators.
  7. Part of the increase in cost of gasoline in my area is the ethanol requirement. IMO blending ethanol in gasoline for motor fuel is a really bad idea for a lot of reasons - phase separation, mileage penalty, corrosive properties, it takes more energy to produce then it provides, clogs fuel injectors and it has to be shipped by container, etcetera. However, we don't have a choice here. I came across this site when I searched for ethanol free gas for my trailer boats. Maybe some of you might be interested in the site. http://pure-gas.org/
  8. Well deserved choice of acdii and hybridbear! Thanks in advance to you folks.
  9. Dealers disconnect the battery in cars on the showroom floor or lock the car doors to prevent folks playing with accessories. I bought a car at a dealer that locked the doors. While the salesman and I did the deal, my eight year old son went around and played with the all the keypads. He had three cars opened up before we noticed.
  10. Current home town prices top out at $4.399. Here we enjoy the ethanol penalty, higher Illinois motor fuel taxes, EPA cost penalties as well as having to pay more to ship, purchase and refine Canadian heavy. I question if the above justifies up to a $1.30 per gallon price increase over what the folks pay in Alabama or South Carolina? Nice article acdii. Last I heard it's illegal to export crude from the US. Only refined product is allowed. Maybe that's why so many pipelines lead to {or will lead to) the 25 refineries in Texas.
  11. Yes, I'm cynical. The top five US refining companies enjoy better than 55% of market share. It leaves loads of room for possible inventory manipulation to control pricing. The major companies have made a meal of buying out independent refineries and closing them.
  12. Prices in my hometown today range from $4.39.9 - $4.17.9 for regular per Gas Buddy. I've concluded that retail pricing of gasoline is based on perception of what major oil companies think customers expect to pay given "conditions" of the local market. Our news media helps them by publicizing negative reports on price from blend changes effecting refinery capacity, pipeline problems, refinery fires, oil sheiks farting....blah, blah, blah. Price goes up because of summer blend and price goes up because of winter blend and it's oh so slow to recede.. Last I heard, most blending was done at the bulk terminals not refineries, and by the way what ever happened to tank farms evening out supply problems and those redundant pipelines. The majors are closing refineries or limiting capacity....no one wants a refinery in their backyard. Was the refinery not there when they moved in? Price fixing is a no-no, then why is it that intersections with a gas station on every corner you see the same price wherever you look. While you're looking check out the satellite dishes on the roof of each station. Talk about real time price reporting and changing, it takes them longer to change the signs....oops, I forgot about those electronic signs. I can't end this rant without talking about diesel. Why is it in my travels diesel in general is less expensive in western states. Oh, I must be wrong or forgot about the EPA. edit: I forgot to ask why the majors need to have their own commodity trading floors.
  13. I wonder if new FFHs are set to idle the ICE during testing and in moving cars during delivery so as to keep the batteries charged. Also, you'd think dealers would reset the average mpg before a new car is delivered.
  14. Congrats and looking forward to more valuable insights! Nothing like that new car smell, ayeh?
  15. May not be what you are looking for, but all my vehicles have a flashlight, basic tool kit, first aid kit and blanket.
  16. Welcome! It sounds like you got the twin of my wife's car. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do our SE.
  17. Speaking of stop signs, judging our local drivers leaves me with the impression that stop signs are only a suggestion. Most traffic tickets in Illinois are issued by local jurisdictions. To contest a ticket you appear before a local magistrate at a hearing. I've heard the magistrate tell offenders that they need not have bothered to appear as they were all guilty, and it would have been cheaper to pay the fine rather than the "judgement."
  18. Speaking of wheels staying on (as well as getting 'em off), when service is complete I'd ask them to use a torque wrench (not impact driver) to torque the wheel lugs to spec. Also, In my experience loose wheels made a "popping/clicking" sound. Edit: changed IME to In my experience. Sorry....!
  19. Thanks jeff_h....It always amazed me that Spartanburg, SC has such low gas prices. I stop there and fill the boat tank. Even with the added weight penalty on my tow vehicle, it's a bargain.
  20. While towing boats I observed almost all other drivers want to pass regardless of how fast I drrve. I towed a trailer/boat combo weighing 7500# from San Diego to South Carolina. The trailer had a "sprung" torsion axle, so I mostly cruised 55 mph on I-40. The same drivers passed me repeatedly during the trip. Some even stayed at the same motel. We waved at each other.
  21. The drivers that irritate me are the ones who tailgate in the right hand lane on the Interstate. Some act PO'd like you're in their personal passing lane. My wife calls the right lane "the BMW passing lane."

  23. What's the 1st question the help desk always asks? Ah....but bloatware creates jobs and engages the user base! Don't they drive VW Beetles? You can SyncMyRide, but I don't want to pay for a subscription.
  24. Do you have dune leather seats? I recall the letter saying something about vegetable dye in jeans discoloring leather seats (I filed the letter in the shredder, so I can't say for sure). However, I could have dreamed that. :headscratch: It might make sense that the discoloration wouldn't show up on black leather seats.
