45.2mpg at 53,000 miles.
-
I think Ford is marketing the car incorrectly. Someone in my office is planning on getting a new car, and I talked about the FFH. He decided on the Honda Accord Hybrid. Honda isn't doing much advertising on their hybird, and from everything I've read, the Accord doesn't make it's EPA numbers either, so I don't get it :(

Inconsistent difference between displayed and actual mpg
djminfll replied to mwr's topic in Fuel Mileage
Mine varies pretty substantially - sometimes, I get better actual economy than the displayed mpg, but not always. -
I don't know why it took me this long to consider this, but I started keeping the A/C on 72F and the fan on the lowest setting, instead of using the Automatic Climate control. My last fill-up was at 49.1mpg, and my current tankful with 300+miles is sitting at 48.4mpg. Does using the automatic climate control really effect fuel economy that much? In the past two weeks, my lifetime average (reset at 40K miles, I currently have 51K) has gone from 44.7 to 45.2. I was pretty happy with my average of 44.5mpg, but if I can squeeze the extra 4-5mpg just by keeping the A/C blowing a little more gently, I can deal with the car being a little bit warmer for a little bit longer. Has anyone else found similar comparison figures?

What did you cross shop your FFH with?
djminfll replied to machoman1337's topic in Competing Products
I cross-shopped the Camry Hybrid, as well as the Sonata Hybrid. I didn't consider the Prius as my dad has one, and I HATE driving it. I also considered the Passat Diesel as the only non-hybrid alternative. I eliminated them because: 1. I found the interior of the Camry to be completely mediocre, and it drove erratically, not smooth like the FFH at all, and the braking felt artificial. 2. The Sonata didn't come close to the FFH mpg - even allowing for the fact that the FFH supposedly didn't make the EPA mpg, it still beat the Sonata by 5+ mpg. 3. I was very impressed with the VW Passat Diesel, but diesel fuel costs more than regular fuel (I know that changes, but at the time - and still - it was more), the diesel mpg is not as high as the Hybrid, and in my heart I really wanted the Fusion and thought I'd be unhappy with the VW when it wasn't really the car I wanted. And I have never regretted the decision. I look forward to my hour long commute each morning, my weekend trips across state, and errands on weekends. -
So this is interesting - Hybrid Payback Period
djminfll replied to Howie411's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
In addition to my previous comment, in addition to the savings in gas, I know I have mentioned this before, but I drive on the I-95 Express Lanes for free, which would either cost me $10-15 per day, or add 30-60 minutes of commuting each way. -
I've been using TomTom since 2007, and I really like it. I got a new TomTom shortly after getting my FFH, and this one has voice control so I don't need to keep tapping on the screen and typing in information. I really like it, and it's small and light, easy to bring with me when I rent a car.

So this is interesting - Hybrid Payback Period
djminfll replied to Howie411's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
If we all went to the dealer and paid cash for the car, then the payback period would apply. However, I financed my vehicle, and the difference between a comparably SE and my SE Hybrid was a maximum of about $70 per month. However, I drive about 66 miles per day roundtrip for work. At 22mpg in the SE (EPA) vs. 44mpg in the SE Hybrid (EPA and my actual overall average), I would be using approximately 40 extra gallons per month. Even at $2.50 (which is well below the cost overall since I got the car is 2013) per gallon, I am saving more than $100 per month. So the payback advantage is immediate. I don't know why more people don't use this to calculate if it's worthwhile to go with the Hybrid. -
Ouch! I got a small ding on my front left fender when a careless landscaper was blowing leaves as I drove by and I got hit with a stone. I used Ford touch-up paint, and then gently and C-A-R-E-F-U-L-L-Y scraped it when it was dry so that it is flush with the surface of the fender. It's not 100% perfect, but I didn't want to spend money on body work.

I called them today, and they wanted to renew at $55 for 3 months, or $220 per year. I told them to cancel unless they can do a better rate. The agent told me they have the 5 months for $20 rate, but he needed to transfer me to Customer Service. He told me since I was already on a promotional rate, he couldn't offer it again. So I told him again to cancel it. He came back with $89 for 12 months, with tax $115 for a year. So I took it, that's not a bad rate. I figure, it doesn't cost them anything to transmit to my car - so half their rate is better than zero. So I'll just keep doing this year after year until I get a new car with a new trial subscription! LOL!

I know there are prior threads on SiriusXM Satellite, but none are current. My subscription is about to expire, and their regular renewal rates are ridiculous. Has anyone renewed a subscription recently, and if so, were you able to negotiate a lower rate? Thank you all for your help!

I'm not sure if I posted these once before:
-
I don't know if I could sell mine - I went to the Auto Show earlier this year, and quite honestly, other than possibly a Tesla, there isn't another car I'd consider besides my FFH.

What is your 'satisfaction quotient'?
djminfll replied to nv rick's topic in 2013-2016 Fusion Hybrid
My satisfaction quotient is more than met with my 2013 FFH SE. I reset my Trip Odometer 2 about 5,000 miles ago, and my average over the 5,000 miles is 45.8 mpg. I have had a couple of tankfuls that bombed, I only achieved 38 or 39mpg, but I had other tankfuls where I achieved 51-53mpg as well. In addition, I am able to use carpool lanes while driving alone, and I get to use the I-95 Express Lanes (which usually charges a variable toll of $0.50-$12 based on traffic volume) for free, allowing me to avoid the bumper-to-bumper traffic I would have to endure if I wasn't driving a hybrid. Not to mention the car now has 48K miles, and still has no creaks, rattles or squeaks, is comfortable on trips across the state, and even after two years still has the best styling of any sedan on the road (in my opinion). -
All 3 are beauties, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the 2002 T-bird. And yours is gorgeous! Good luck with the FFH as well, you're going to love it!

Our cars will soon be paying off again.
djminfll replied to acdii's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
Driving to work this morning, my local stations were priced at $2.339; at 7PM on my way home, same stations were $2.559... YIKES! Of course, my tank so far is at 47.4mpg, so it's not as painful for me as it is for everyone else. -
Fender bender with my wife's Explorer
djminfll replied to corncobs's topic in Lounge - Off Topic Discussion
I have learned from years of watching The People's Court that if the accident was not your fault, you should ALWAYS wait at the scene of the accident and don't move your vehicles until the police have been called and arrive on the scene of the accident. If the other party insists on moving their vehicle, try not to let them move it until you have had a chance to take pictures from multiple angles and multiple distances from the car. Once the pictures are taken, if the other party insists on moving their vehicle, that's just better for your case. But once the vehicles have been moved, it is almost impossible to figure out whose fault it is. And if it wasn't your fault, I don't care how much they beg not to call the police, do it anyway. It's amazing how fast that cute crying young lady changes her tune after you both leave the scene without a police report, and suddenly accuses you of cutting her off and causing the accident. Without a police report and/or photos of the accident, it's he said/she said when trying to resolve the claim. -
What do YOU use for Navigation?
djminfll replied to TonyHzNV's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
90% of the time I used my TomTom, I had one for 5 or 6 years, I just upgraded to a new one which also gives traffic along the route so I can select an alternate. If I need to get directions because of either traffic or roadblock where it would take too long to set up the TomTom, then I use google maps. I didn't used to use it, because I was on a limited data plan on my phone, but I recently switched, and now I have unlimited, so that is a more viable option for me now. Funny enough, the one device I almost NEVER use is SYNC services/directions. That is always my worst option, I hate it!- 41 replies

I usually reset Trip 2 every 10K miles or so - the last time I reset it was when the car turned over 36,000 miles. This pic was taken about a week before the ones above, but in the last 5000 miles, I've achieved 46mpg, not too shabby.

....and then I heard that horrible "crunch" noise
djminfll replied to TonyHzNV's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
Police were involved - it was an unlicensed/uninsured woman driving a beatup old minivan who hit the guy behind me, who hit me, who hit the car in front of me. And she had no insurance to cover any of it. She was arrested at the scene, my damage was approximately $5000, front and rear damage on my 2007 Volvo S60. And NOTHING on car fax. -
I wrote something last week about not being to get past the plateau of 44.1mpg. My lifetime mpg wouldn't budge past that no matter how good my fillups have been. But I FINALLY broke through the plateau and am sailing along now at 44.2mpg lifetime! My car will be 2 years old in February; as soon as it hits 2 years, I will reset the lifetime and start over.

djminfll replied to TonyHzNV's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
Sorry to hear about your little mishap, glad nobody was hurt. If it makes you feel better, I ran a CarFax on my old car when I was getting ready to trade it in, and that car, which was hit twice and got repaired showed up with NO ACCIDENTS. Don't ask me how, but that's what the report showed. So, with any luck, maybe yours won't show up either. -
Question about topics with multiple-page responses
djminfll replied to ceilidhdog's topic in Site Feedback and Help
When you see a topic with multiple pages, it will show page 1, 2, 3, etc. You can click on any of these numbers to go directly to that page. If there are a larger number of pages (i.e. the MPG Happy Talk topic with 89 pages) you can click on 89 and go to the newest one. -
It most definitely drops faster than it raises! But are you sure about being able to reset the lifetime mpg? I thought I tried that and couldn't do it. I could be wrong...
