New Software Update for Sync

Recommended Posts

According to my Sync history I am at v3.7 and now have a new update. Following the links to download the new post 3.7 update gives me this error.

http://support.ford.com/tools/account/update-center?referrcodes=ERR_INVALID_SOFTWARE_URL&success=false&error=0.6854381059495289

On my MacBook Pro I have tried with Safari, Firefox and Chrome resulting in the same error after clicking the Start Download button.

Sync

Update: 10-07-2014 @ 8:14 am the problem still exists with attempting to download. I get followup emails from syncinfo@ford.com asking me to confirm my completed update so the system thinks my download worked. I have tried Windows 8, Windows 7 and iMac, with Safari, IE, Chrome, and Firefox on different internet connections. This morning the entire support.ford.com site appeared to be down. Your SDLC could use some serious improvements.

Can you please PM the VIN? I'd like to see what's going on.

Any updates on this as far as when 3.7 might be available again?

Dave

Hi Dave,

I still do not have an ETA for the update. Continue to check your account at: www.Support.Ford.com for software update availability. Once I have more information, I'll be sure to share it with you all. :)

How long does it take to zip a set of files using the official commercial version of Winzip? Anyone that knows what they are doing could take care of it in less than 15 minutes.

Your 2012 Fusion doesn't have My Ford Touch. It has a "Sync Gen 1" system which is totally different hardware and software. There haven't been any updates for that system in several years now.

And probably never will, even though Ford did state that they would release Applink for it in September, which hasn't happened.

Looks like they fixed the zip file, I downloaded and installed the 3.7 update tonight. Though I did run into an issue where it froze on 5/9 30 minutes into the update. Had to turn the car off and pull the USB, was scared I had hosed my system since when I restarted the MyFord Touch screen was all messed up. But I put back in the USB drive and re-ran it and about 25 minutes later it finished and everything was good.

Looks like it's available for general release again in North America.

Support.ford.com informed me it is available for my '14 Titanium now.

I assume that it will be a pain in the butt again by wiping out all of my saved nav destinations and phone book.

And it takes more than 30 minutes to complete......during which time my ENGINE MUST BE RUNNING ???

WTH is up with that ??

Not just in the run mode going down the road, mind you, but the engine actually running.

I sure hope the new system is better than this piece of crap.

The ICE does not need to be on. Set your car to "ready to drive" mode and install the update. That is just copied from other vehicles and pasted. For ICE only vehicles the ICE must be running for the updates.

OK that make sense but why is it so prominent in the instructions that you MUST disable the "auto engine off" feature on models that have that ?? It makes no sense that the engine must actually be RUNNING for this to work; conventional engine OR hybrid.

That's just Ford's way of guaranteeing you won't run down the battery. If you drain the battery and the system runs out of power mid-update, it can lock up the system. Also if the engine is not running, it means the power saver features are active, so it could shut down the update mid-cycle as well.

Be sure to disable "auto engine off". Vehicles with PBS have this menu item so that if you get out of the car and forget to turn it off it will automatically cycle off after a set time limit.

I updated mine. Plugged in the USB stick and drove the car during the update...completed In about 30 minutes. The only problem with this method is that there will be no heater controls during the update...

Mine rebooted tonight. Screen went black while driving...kinda unnerving! Eventually a progress bar shiwed up and then everything turned back on.

Took about 2 minutes total.

I dont notice anything different yet, but I haven't had any time to check it out.

Ah HA !

So it doesn't mean what I though it means.

As long as I start the update and then take out on an actual drive that lasts longer than the update, I should be fine without changing any settings.

Was this while you were trying to do the update........or later on ??

2 minutes is not nearly enough for the whole update.

The most obvious changes are on the NAV with ETA and MUTE showing up on the main screen.

I wasnt trying to do any update, it just happened while I was driving.

The software crashed and did an automatic reboot.

Thats even more unnerving!

Exactly. The software probably has a memory leak(s). Rather than find and fix it they probably installed a timer that has to be continually reset by the software. If the timer expires the software starts over from scratch with a stupid display on the screen that says something about "scheduled maintenance". It could be in the Sync software or in the underlying Microsoft operating system.

My old second generation ReplayTV box had a similar problem. Every 7 days it did a reboot. The original ReplayTV box, purchased in 2000, ran for 2 years without restarting. Newer is not always better.

You guys are funny. Go over to the Edge forum and read about the initial release of MFT. Most people would have their systems reboot 3-4 times a week.
