elle Report post Posted May 19, 2013 That's great to hear, I hope it is the right fix. Please start a new thread when you have yours done and if you find that there is any additional information coming from Ford that would help us all convince our dealers that this is a service action that needs to happen, please put that information out as well. I'll be calling my dealer for a few things and I will want to have as much info in hand as I can.
miceli.mike Report post Posted May 20, 2013 Hello to all.. Brand new 13 FFH, had 7mi on it when I got it... 1200 miles now and I'm getting theorist end click or clunk or crack on initial acceleration and on deceleration that many are describing. I can drive up and down my driveway in ev mode and hear it almost every time. First the left front, then the right front... Any anyone recommend a specific course of action I should follow to get this resolved ? Thanks in advance

Thanks in advanceThis Topic thread is very long and as Elle mentioned we ought to start a new Topic when Ford announces a permanent fix.Meanwhile, there is nothing much any of us can do, although some Dealers have tried various repair options. To answer your question, the last semi-official word is that Ford knows about it and is working on a permanent fix.

acdii Report post Posted May 20, 2013 AHA I figured out what it is. IT's FORD's way of letting the blind people know you are there! Click, Hmm a Fusion must be nearby! OK I have a WeIrD sense of Humor! 1 hybridbear reacted to this
murphy Report post Posted May 20, 2013 Not so weird. There have been laws proposed to require quiet cars to have a noise source installed so pedestrians can hear them coming. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

elle Report post Posted May 20, 2013 I dunno. It bothers me when I'm cruising slowly through my neighborhood and I know that the kids on bikes in front of me have no idea I'm there. It would be so easy for one of them to pull out in front of me. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

gl419 Report post Posted May 21, 2013 OK Got a call from the Service Manager at my dealer this morning. Several weeks ago I took my FFH in for the clicking problem. They checked all of the torque values in the front end. They were all OK. Then they pulled the half shafts and packed them with high temp grease. This worked for about 3 weeks, then the clicking has gradually come back. Still not as bad as originally, but definately coming back. The Service Manager called to check on the status as well as to let me know that they got a TSB notice this morning on the problem. The resolution is a thrust washer on the end of the half shaft to keep pressure against the shaft. He said parts are on order and he'll call in a few days when they come in for me to bring the car in. Looks like Ford finally has an answer. 5 neod192, corncobs, cincidaddi and 2 others reacted to this

acdii Report post Posted May 21, 2013 Hmm I posted a while back that I bet it was a bushing, shim or something similar that they will need to add. Thrust washer is pretty close, eh? Now the question is, at which end do they need to add it, hub side or case side? I'm guessing hub side only because of what a few have commented on after having some service done. One had theirs greased which worked for a while another had everything retorqued. If the splined shaft in the hub is where they are adding the washer, tht would account for it as it will snug up the shaft to the hub and make it a solid piece. If case side, that would make sense too as it will take out end play in the differential. It could be too much end play and as torque is applied it forces the shaft in or out and makes the clicking sound. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

cincidaddi Report post Posted May 21, 2013 Just stopped by my dealer Kerry Ford in Cincinnati and the service manager pulled up the bulletin on this issue. He told me the fix is just a washer that needs to be installed for vehicles built before April 2013. Made an appointment for this Thursday. 2 hybridbear and gadgetguy reacted to this

TerrorTodd Report post Posted May 21, 2013 So should anyone whose Fusion was built before April 2013 take their vehicle in for this TSB regardless if you are experiencing the noise or not or does it only apply if you are experiencing the problem. Seems like it develops - I have 1600 miles on mine and haven't heard this yet....

Seems like it develops - I have 1600 miles on mine and haven't heard this yet....Based on the description of the fix I'd be inclined to say that yes, all owners should have this looked at. If your Fusion is ok there will not be clearance to put a thrust washer on there. If there is clearance then it needs the washer regardless of whether you hear the noise. Right?
