gadgetguy Report post Posted April 24, 2013 When I see how you guys who were showing bad numbers are starting to improve them, I think, did I jump the gun, but then I remember, oh right, fouled plugs isn't normal at 4500 miles, so I feel I made the right decision in dumping it. Are your cars being consistent where the numbers are about the same every drive, and showing improvement? That was the other thing I found with mine, they were all over the place, some trips low mid 30's others high 40's, yet the temps and driving didn't change. I really would like to get another one, driving the car was a blast with how it handles, but reluctant as to the way the other one did. Considering that the 2010 I currently have is doing very good on gas, this makes it even tougher. The one I ordered is still on the list, but may be in Black instead of Blue, and I would really like to at least take it for a ride to see if it actually does what it should. The 10 feels so outdated now after being in the 13! But Only if the Price is Right! Mine has been getting a little better each and every day. This morning was very windy and stormy and I still did over 38 MPG on the trip to work. Most of my driving is interstate as I commute 35 miles one way to work. But Only if the Price is Right! from Feb when i first got the car i would say has gotten alot better but the weather has played its role because when it got very warm for a week or 2 it had improved alot and during that time where the temp had dropped back down to the mid 30's i was back to Feb numbers Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I really appreciate your knowledge and hybrid driving experience. There is no doubt in my mind that if anyone was going to get max MPG out of their hybrid, you would be among that group - given a "good" FFH, of course. Almost everything I have learned on how to drive my FFH came from this forum and specifically, members like yourself. And if you were to have a 2013/14 again, you most certainly would continue to contribute to my learning experience. As far as what my numbers are telling me, I think that my driving is now consistent enough to where I can see differences depending on the circumstances. There is a definite warm weather bias - I am consistently getting 53-56 MPG when the temps are above 60 degrees, and 46-49 when it is below 60 degrees. When the temps have hit 80 here, it seems like the car just wants to run in EV forever. But, the numbers are consistent. My driving persona has changed since driving this car. I am definitely a calmer driver, not so much in a hurry anymore, and I enjoy driving again. Previously, I found myself getting frustrated and upset, over the last 10 years or so, with crazy/rude/dangerous drivers, slow commutes and high gas prices. Now, I rarely worry about the other drivers, slow commutes add up to higher MPG for me, and I have cut my monthly gasoline bill by $200 (was getting 14-19 MPG previously). Some of you have helped me too without knowing it. :) I have to say there are a really good group of people on this forum and it appears more are joining now. I hope we all can continue enjoying each others company here and not run off and forget, and only come back when they have a problem. The Lounge forum is a great place to just shoot the breeze too, doesn't need to be just Fusion related either. The first clue there was something not quite right with the one I had was when we did have a few warm days when I first got it, and it was in the 60's and I could not break 38, I was like, well, thats not right. I am so glad that mine was one of the small select handful that had this problem as the Fusion really deserves its place at the top. In fact from everyone's experience here I have stopped any form of Fusion bashing that I had started when I had the issues, wasn't worth it, I just cut my losses on it, and just hoping that at some point I can get another one that is as good as or better than what you guys have. I had to look back in this thread to find the date where I had taken notes of the difference in temps. It was April 2 (pg 10, reply #196) and it was 61 for the morning commute, and 83 on the trip home (17.3 miles). Morning was 55.6 MPG, while the afternoon, in stop-and-go traffic was 62.9 MPG. And being 83 degrees in Houston, I most definitely used my A/C. Kind of a necessity around here. It's one of those non-negotiable factors that I am willing to sacrifice a few MPG to stay comfortable. I hate IL, I hate this weather, and I hate the damned government in this state, especially that Dick, Durbin. I love seeing someone with 47 on the Fuelly too! To be honest, I was reluctant to put my mileage on Fuelly. There were so many bad reports on MPG from forum users (and others) for the 1st few months, I did not want to detract from the message that there was something definitely wrong with some FFHs. Otherwise, Ford or some other entity could point and say, "See look, that guy over there is getting good mileage, why can't you?" Knowing that I was not doing anything differently than the people I had learned from, I figured it was more prudent to wait. Once the better mileage reports started appearing (warmer weather, break-in period, better cars, who knows?) in March, that's when I figured it was then safe to post my MPG numbers among the rest, without upsetting anyone's lawsuit. If you've been following the number spread graphically, over the 1st quarter of 2013, there was definitely a Bell curve between 34-42 MPG, with 38 MPG being the median. And over the last month, there has been a noticeable shift to the right. My guess is that the median is now more like 40 MPG. I plan on continuing to post on Fuelly but not for myself. I am trying to add notes with each fill-up that will help others maximize their MPG, or at least be able to qualify my particular experience. I haven't added my wife's Energi on fuelly, think it would skew things a bit. Most of her driving is in town, so after 5 days her average MPG is 105. Of course factor in the electricity used (to get MPGe) and that number goes down, but we still love looking at that big lifetime MPG number on the display. I was mostly cruising at 68, but ran info some traffic and actually stopped once, then crawled. I find it a lot easier to get good mileage in city driving with the Fusion than with my old Camry Hrybrid. i sometimes thought it was too much work with the Camry. it comes easy with the new Fusion.I agree completely. All hybrids are built for the city. On the highway you have an ICE lugging around extra weight compared to a gas only car. Remember that Ford was early on calling for 47 city, 44 highway. In all electric driving the car is rated at 100 overall MPGe. So if you take a trip on all EV mode I'm curious what the Trip Summary shows for MPGe. Are you seeing around 100 MPGe when driving less than 20 miles on all EV? What about Lifetime MPGe? That should combine the gas and EV efficiency into one number.
