MPG Happy Talk

Recommended Posts

ok, i'm confused. :headscratch:  getting too many :baby:

I'm happy with the MPG the Flex is getting, even better with this one than my other one, and I found it LIKES 89 Octane. Filled up today, the Cost Saver in Harvard has 89 as its Regular, mid is 90 and premium is 93. MPG it sitting at 21 now on this tanks. With the weather warming up, the FFH is sitting at 39 now, Yippee.

Cool that you trade back to a FFH ? really happy that you reconsidered.

Because we would really miss you around here and your awesome mpg numbers.

lol I would never buy a Lexus, let alone trade an awesome car like my ffh for one. Cept maybe an LFA. If I were a billionaire and I already had the other 50 cars I would buy before an LFA if I were a billionaire.

Irony, not happy getting 35 in the FFH, but getting over 21 in the Flex! Its like getting 44 in the Fusion to me. This is just my normal driving, no Interstate, and I am getting close to EPA Highway. So far on 2 tanks I am a hair above EPA Combined. Makes me a happy owner. Between the 2010 FFH getting better than normal and this, happy with both cars.

lol I'd love to have an ecoboost explorer. Dunno if I'd love getting 400 miles per $80 tank though... I also want to get a 4wd 5.0 STX F150 and have Hennessey Performance supercharge it. Then I'd have to start counting GPM, not MPG..

I didnt like the Exploder, the 2nd row is too tight. Last night we went out to dinner and first time we all got to ride in the Flex. Both car seats and my wife fit fine in the 2nd row. a bit more room than the Fusion as she wasnt pressed against the seat backs. Of course a longer trip one or both seats will go in the 3rd row, depending on what we are putting back there.

I am finding that the new Flex is much easier to stay above 20 MPG than the other one was, a very light touch on the pedal is enough to keep the speed steady while staying above that mark. Vindication too, if I am doing this good with the Flex, and my 2010, that just verifies, it wasn't how I was driving that other car. I also think I have a new gas station to get my gas from, this last fill was at a Cost Saver across from the dealer, and its 89 octane as their regular grade, and the price was on par with all the others without the 4 cent per gallon discount if I have a store receipt from that day. After the last fill my MPG dropped a bit from 20.3 to 19.5, and now its back up to 20.1, showing 21.7 for this tank. This may not seem like much, but its huge compared to my old one, where it averaged only 18.5,

Economy when I want it, Power when I need it, Love the Ecoboost! Had it in the F150 too, and after a nice long trip to California in it, they DO get good gas mileage! I was between 22 and 24 MPG for that trip. It was my daily driving that sucked though, only saw about 17, and needed Premium to do that. Just too much gearing for what I did. The Max Tow package has 3.73 gears, and that really hurt the in town driving.

Just checked, didnt realize they stuck the 3.5 EB in the Exploder, man that thing must be a rocket!

My Fusion surprised me this morning. I got 39.x on my commute to work! I didn't baby the gas pedal as much, the roads are dry and it's sunny! When I got out of the car, I was thinking it must be warmer outside, so I checked and nope - it was 35F ... brrr

Things seem to be improving as the car is breaking in. I have 480 miles on it now :)

I ran some errands at lunch today - 55-60F mostly city driving. This was the trip back, the 5 mile trip out was also 48-49 MPGs, but I didn't take a picture. I have no doubts this car was made to be driven in the city. not so much on the highway:

I agree that city driving fuel efficiency is outstanding. It's not hard to get great mileage. I find it a lot easier to get good mileage in city driving with the Fusion than with my old Camry Hrybrid. i sometimes thought it was too much work with the Camry. it comes easy with the new Fusion.

I almost made EPA numbers on my way home today ?

It has been my best yet and especially good since it has more 65-70mph miles than my drive to work.

There is no question in my mind that the 68* temperature helped to achieve that number.

Going on ECC I saw 50+ mpg instant on the dash which was pretty cool.

I got 44.2 mpg on my 14 mile trip home from work. I only have a 248 miles on the car so I'm guessing it'll get better as it breaks in. I'm not complaining though!

I Laugh! Why, because I am getting half that and am happy with it! Looks like our 2010 is going to have another good tank this next fill too. My wife has been driving it the past few days and says she is getting 45 or so. We shall see.

42.5 this morning in my 2010. Best part, didn't bother trying to get that, I just drove, busy chatting with my wife, watching other idiots waste gas racing to red lights. The long term has crept up to 37.9, and the mid term since my last reset months ago is now at 38.7. Not bad at all for a car rated 36 MPG Highway and most of my driving is highway! :)

Yep it will get better as it breaks in and you learn the driving style of a Hybrid. For the most part I drive the same as any vehicle but I pay more attention to what the car is doing and have made some adjustments to get the best results. I am also not a hindrance to traffic I keep up with the flow w/o issue. I would highly recommend using the ECO Cruise as it does a much better job than I do (I've tried) at keeping the mileage up on the interstate at 65-70 mph.

Most of all as a lot of people on this form have said... Have fun!!

What is the level of your battery?

it was halfway when i drove around but all that was in city miles and i just let every burn gas to get to the red light i just coast

I got 35.1 this morning. I guess my car is still "breaking in". Only 550 miles so far.

IMG_20130424_090239.jpg

i was getting that in the beginning also but i learned to drive the car now my morning commute because the temp here have been in the upper 30's and low 40's have been 42 - 45 mpg but the evening commute has been 48 - 53 mpg and my avg is up to 40.5 and going up .1 everyday

When I see how you guys who were showing bad numbers are starting to improve them, I think, did I jump the gun, but then I remember, oh right, fouled plugs isn't normal at 4500 miles, so I feel I made the right decision in dumping it. Are your cars being consistent where the numbers are about the same every drive, and showing improvement? That was the other thing I found with mine, they were all over the place, some trips low mid 30's others high 40's, yet the temps and driving didn't change.

I really would like to get another one, driving the car was a blast with how it handles, but reluctant as to the way the other one did. Considering that the 2010 I currently have is doing very good on gas, this makes it even tougher. The one I ordered is still on the list, but may be in Black instead of Blue, and I would really like to at least take it for a ride to see if it actually does what it should. The 10 feels so outdated now after being in the 13!

But Only if the Price is Right!

I posted this in another forum, but thought it should belong in this thread too.

Here's some pics from my car. Pictures will speak a thousand words.

IMG 20130424 093128

This pic is a shot of my current tank of gas. Note that I still have a 1/4 tank remaining.

Here's the conversion from L/100km to MPG

5.0L/100km = 47.04 MPG US

IMG 20130424 093144

This was my drive to work this morning.

4.2L/100km = 56 MPG US

It's achievable and once you learn how, it's really easy!
