2013 FFH real world fuel economy

Thats old news. Of course it devalues the 2013 but increases the value on the 10-12 models.

Well I took an average of all the Fuelly individuals and came up with 36.8 average mpg.

 

I really wonder what the average will be with more reported individuals and more fill ups, along with better weather and spring/summer gas.

Well here is something to make you sit back and go huh?! Monday-Wednesday temps were higher than today, upper 20's to 60, and through all that, it got no better then 36 MPG. Today, its 13* and it got 38.1. HUH? WTF? I swear mine is an Arctic car. Maybe it should be sold to someone in Alaska. It appears to do better in cold weather than warm.

Consumer Reports got an average MPG of 39 when they tested the Fusion Hybrid, so you're not that far off. I don't like the fact that 47 is advertised. Your mileage may vary certainly hits home here. It would sure be interesting to caravan a bunch of Fusion Hybrids over the same turf to compare identical cars with identical distances and conditions to see just how much variance there was. Driver habits aside, I really wonder how that would turn out.

Well sort of did that, only used a 2010 with the 13, the 10 did better.

I've had my FFH for about 3 weeks now and I am getting right around 40 mpg - the current average shows 39.5, but the lifetime average (which I reset at the time of my first fill-up) shows about 40.5. I had hoped for closer to 47, but then I have drive up a big hill every morning (and back down at night) and I usually drive 65 on the freeway, which will naturally be a bit less than 60. Given the style and features of my car, I am happy I went with the FFH and not a Prius. But -- I had kind of counted on getting closer to 47 mpg. I think the tests need to be redesigned so they provide a better representation of real-world results.

I think it weighs more, 3700 vs 3400. Its raining and cold and icy so not up to going outside to look at the jamb.

GVWR on the 2010 is 4701, dont have access to the 13 its at home, so maybe someone else can chime in with theirs.

 

 

 

 

BTW, dont know why your quotes dont come out right, using a tablet or something?

So I've been quiet lately....I felt like it was a little annoying when I was talking about my success and others are having issues.

 

However, I just put in my second tank of gas. It held close to 13 gallons.

 

I'm at a little over 1000 miles and I'm getting 46.5mpg. I'm very happy with the car. But it does take a little more work than the Prius did. The majority of my miles are all stop and go in city driving.

 

I wish everyone as much success as I am having.

 

I do however wish we get some sort of Kia deal.

Because of different fuel nozzle shutoff points, calculating mileage by each tank fill-up is not the most accurate method. Do that a number of times to get an average and compare it to the cars computer for each fill-up. I determined my 2010 FFH computer read 4-4.5% high. The odometer, however read 2% low (determined with map and GPS checks ) for a net of 2-2.5% high. that';s about 1 mpg.

Good point. I've definitely noticed this discrepancy...sometimes filling to 3 clicks I've found that my receipt reads less gas than the trip computer shows and sometimes it reads more. That's why I'm more going by my fuelly average. The overall average will eliminate those tank by tank discrepancies and give an accurate overall mileage. For tank by tank mileage I'd almost think that the car's readout is the most accurate.

 

I will usually let it click off once, wait a few seconds and then put it back on the lowest fill rate till it clicks off again, which is often at least another half gallon of fuel, then I'll usually let it go one more time, which usually puts in almost another half gallon. Even with doing this some pumps seem to be really sensitive and I have left the gas station then with the fuel display showing that I am just under 100% full. Another benefit to putting the gallons from receipt and miles from trip odometer on a place like fuelly to get the overall average

I used to do that, but if you use the scan gauge, the instructions tell you first click only. They also say park it where the nose is slightly down hill if you can, and always use the same pump if possible, this way each and every fill will be the closest to the same. Seems to have worked so far.

That is a dang good question. For only 5300 miles or so when I took that pic, I shouldn't be seeing any oil there. Usually you see oil there on older vehicles from the PVC system, usually kicked up by blowby.

 

Hey acdii, is there any chance you could do a compression test? If you truly are getting blow-by, I would think it would show up in compression readings (ring issue?).
