If you register your vehicle at owner.ford.com you can get access to the Sync 3 updates. You should be able to go in and look to see what version you currently have. The latest looks to be v3.3.

This software contains all previous enhancements, so there is no need to install any other updates. The installation of this update will take up to 60 minutes to complete. DO NOT remove your USB drive or turn off your vehicle. You must wait until Installation Complete is displayed on the center screen before removing your drive or turning your vehicle off.

While the update is loading, SYNC will not recognize your mobile phone or media device. Be sure your vehicle engine is running (not in accessory mode) throughout the entire installation process. Although your vehicle must be in park when you initiate the installation process, once the download process has begun, you may drive your vehicle.

Sync does not affect anything in the cluster. That's separate software that is can only be updated through the OBD port.

So tried to upload to my albums and move to the thread. Maybe it worked? If it did it should show the ENGAGE display with battery SOC. If not I'll try something else.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SETTINGS ==> DISPLAY ==> BATTERY DISPLAY on your menu ... get an update or reflash of the computer so you do have it. Your software is wrong. Worst case, the computer will be replaced ... but that is super rare and only a last resort.

I just replaced my 2013 FFH Titanium with a 2019 FFH Titanium over the weekend and mine has the same issue - no SOC shows and the display toggle is missing from the menu. My manufacture date is 5/2019. I went in today to the dealer and the service department found nothing on this issue and was reluctant to schedule a software update.

 

The "good" news is that there are two other 2019 FFH Titaniums onsite at the dealer - a slightly used one that has the proper toggle and SOC display and one that just came in within the last few days that does not! FWIW the manufacture date on the new-to-the-dealer car that also has this issue is 3/2019 (not May).

 

My sales consultant is going to try to have a tech look at the 2 FFH Titaniums on the lot with and without the issue tomorrow. I'm hoping they verify the problem and whether a software update will fix it (isn't it possible the new current software is the broken version?). This problem is important for me to be solved - one of the reasons I bought my second FFH is the fun I have trying to drive as efficiently as possible - and no battery SOC makes that much more difficult and less fun!

 

Also peculiar - it seems that my daytime running lights also do not work. I have set them on in the car settings and have my headlights set to automatic. All lights turn on in the dark but no exterior lights are on in the daytime. Another software issue?????

If they update the software and it fixes the SOC issue, try the lighting issue before you leave to see if the update also fixed that. BUT ... be aware the DRL do not function if the car is in PARK.

 

I'm hoping you got one of the really smart dealers who actually reports to Ford that stuff is messed up. Sounds like they care.

Thanks for the info on the DRL - indeed I was in park when I tested it. Nobody else is home for a few days so I just propped the phone up and took a video while I drove the car in the driveway and indeed the daytime running lights are working.

 

Just waiting on the battery SOC research from the dealer - I am surprised more people have not complained about this since I have seen the problem in 2 of the 3 cars I tested. As long as it gets corrected I am fine - even if it takes awhile to fix. I would be appalled if they dropped the feature (in the middle of the model year to boot) so that has me worried. But the battery SOC is in the just-released 2020 FFH manual as well as the 2019 manual so I'm hopeful this is just a temporary problem.

A Hybrid doesn't have start-stop, are you confusing that with the auto-stop timer that turns off the vehicle after it's left for 30 minutes unattended?

Go back to my post #13. People were complaining/confused about the SOC feature, so it was removed. The folks who publish the owner's guide don't really have a way of knowing unless somebody remembers to tell them, and that often doesn't happen. The new 2020 Explorer hybrid doesn't have any provision for a SOC display.

Not true, sir. I have personally talked with dealer personnel who specifically handle hybrids, have personally climbed into 2019 FFH cars and looked. Whilr the function might be defaulted to disabled for that reason ...

 

The ability to enable/disable the SOC display should rightly be in the menu structure.

I did see that post and hoped it was not true. Why remove something that can already be hidden by the battery display toggle? If people really were confused/complaining, then have the battery display toggle default to 'No' and problem solved. Without knowing the SOC of the hybrid battery, anyone using the engage or empower modes for the fun of trying to drive efficiently are doing so with one hand tied behind their back.

 

Now the EV info in that gauge area I did find confusing, but the gauge itself no (I am coming from a 2013 FFHT). But the SOC itself - bar goes down, charge goes down; bar goes up, charge goes up - not confusing and important to know if you are trying to take advantage of the hybrid.

 

Thanks for your input - I'll have to use the good old phone to give Ford an earful if the gauge is gone. I would not have bought the car if that was known (although I may have bought one with an older MY2019 manufacture date that does still have the gauge).

The "PartNo" is KS7T-JE with "S/W" KS7T-HE on the cars with the missing SOC

 

The "PartNo" is KS7T-JD with "S/W" KS7T-HD on the car that does have the SOC.

I expect both you and Waldo know more than me but I did have a short conversation with Ford support tonight. They said that the SOC option should be there in the 2019 FFH. But they also noted that they are not as technical as the engineering group and could not guarantee this. They said that they would have the engineering group contact the dealer to get to the bottom of my problem. We'll see how that goes and how long it takes. At least they clearly understood the issue. There's nothing else I can do but wait.

 

I am having my car in for illuminated sill plate install on 8/27 (if this is my last Fusion I want it RIGHT) and at that time the dealer is supposed to also try to fix the SOC display problem. They are supposed to research the problem before 8/27 but I am not confident they would have done so if I had not called Ford support. I am still not all that confident since the engineering group, when contacted about this, could turn around and say just what Waldo has said. I don't know what will happen then - in that case I did not get the car I paid for. We'll see - I only have 100 miles on it and I'd like to put many more miles on it! But I'd like to be happy seeing the money I am spending for my new FFH! Thanks to you and Waldo (and the OP) for your input!

In Ford part number speak, the last two letters signify first the variant (J likely means Fusion Hybrid) while the last letter is the revision level. So JE is newer than JD. Chances are if you could get the dealer to flash in the JD software, you'd get the SOC back. But in the JE version, it's likely also something that can be configured if someone knew which DIDs it corresponds to (sorry, I don't know that part).

 

While personally I'm with you and prefer more menu configurations and use the SOC all the time (without it is like trying to drive a manual transmission without a tach), too many people complained that Ford's cluster system was too complicated and too hard to use, so they've slowly been removing the features that are duplicated elsewhere or that people use the least. That's why the climate menus disappeared from the right side menus. That's also why going forward new 2020+ models have moved almost all the menus into the center stack. Maybe as the newer vehicles are better connected to the "cloud", some of those options will come back through the Ford App. But in the meantime, please do complain to Ford about the missing SOC, that's the only way to counterbalance the people that have complained about having it.

What's amazing to me is that people would complain about this little battery icon with the spinning charging ring. What's absolutely boggles my mind is that Ford would remove it. Seriously, that tiny icon, on a screen you can switch from, gets removed, so that stupid people don't get offended? Unbelievable.

I think the complaints were from Energi owners. The battery icon has a mileage range on it and people complained because they didn't always get what the estimate showed. They took that est. as fact when they shouldn't.

And people complain because it never goes full, or because it's different in the morning when they start the car compared to when they left it the night before. Basically the same reasons temperature and oil pressure gauges are gone, people that don't understand them can think something is wrong when it isn't.

Then these folks need to get educated **somehow**. For anyone not seeing the SOC full, come on to my neck of the woods in Winter. The ICE runs so much I can top off the HVB very easily AND quickly. While it''s quite common in that season, I have to admit that it topped off just the other day. <shrug>

 

Yup ... I firmly believe that these kinds of folks don't even know what an Owners Manual is or where to find it. <shakes head> Oh well.
