  1. Good news, I received an email from my service advisor this morning telling me that all the parts were in stock. I'm at the dealer getting the washers installed. I'll post what my first impression is and follow up after getting some time and miles on my FFH.
  2. Click the video and it will show you how to disassemble the whole center console from the shifter up. The rest must be similar. This is a interesting web site, jailbreaking the MFT. http://www.coastaletech.com/fusionlockpick.htm
  3. I had the same problem with the battery saver message in May of this year. My car was built in November 2012 and delivered in December. After several trips to the dealer the FFH tech said he heard that Ford got a batch of bad batteries and elected to change the battery. This was before the TBS was issued, I haven't had a BS message since, except, read below. I just returned from a 9 day vacation with the FFH sitting idle and was concerned that the battery may have discharged. This was at night when I tried the key fob, lights came on, I got in and the FFH started so I turned it off and just left it. The next morning I had to go out and get groceries. When I got to the store something was on the radio that I wanted to finish listening to. I shut the FFH off and the BS message came on. This was probably due to the 9 days of standby, monitoring the systems and draining the LVB. The good news is that I haven't seen the message since. This was four days ago. Anyone who has a late 2012 early 2013 build and has had the TBS battery done without a battery change and is still getting the BS message, I would convince the dealer to change the battery.
  4. I installed the NuShield 8" screen protector this morning, I'm extremely pleased with the results. NO finger prints showing at all after a days use. It's worth the $$'s just for that. I also ordered the Klear Screen anti-static wipes which I used before installation of the clear screen. I may have gotten lucky but there were no bubbles or dust under the screen on the first install. I have not noticed any touch screen sensitivity problems. I ordered the Triple A, for the 2012-2013 Fusion, along with the Klear Screen Wipes, less than $20 delivered. http://www.nushield.com/order_now.php
  5. Don't you just love TLA'S.

Here's another, city driving, using a lot of brakes. What this trip summary needs is average MPH.

I rant above then this happens. On my way home tonight from Manhattan Beach, CA, North on Sepulveda past LAX and almost to the Howard Hughes Center. I just drove home not paying any attention to mileage extending techniques, my son was with me and were just talking. When I pulled in the driveway I looked down at the display after shutting down the car. I almost ____, I couldn't grab my iPhone fast enough, couldn't believe it.

Most of my driving is around and about the Los Angeles area city streets and its never quiet day or night. My lifetime mileage is 34.4 MPG. This is what is is. Hybridbear's brake scores are 100% which means he has time to plan the stop, and with that knowledge he probably has a fairly gentle acceleration. My 100% brake scores are about 4 out of 10, with life time at 90%. Lights change, cars dart out in front so braking is offen and hard. You really can't accelerate to keep the car in EV, too many people in back of you white knuckling the steering wheel honking the horn, so you pulse it, ICE to get up to speed then back off to shut the ICE off. I don't drive my 2013 FFH hard, as my previous car was a 2010 FFH, so I had gentle driving skills already established. The 34.4 MPG is 10.2% higher than my previous FFH. So I'm happy with that. There are times when I get lucky with lights and catch long stretches of green lights, then I get in the low 40's. Freeway driving is better, I've gotten 51 MPG on a 95 mile leg of a trip at 65 MPH with FWY traffic being steady, using ACC. So, I know the car is capable of getting the stated mileage. I don't doubt there have been 2013 FFH's with problems. I think my low MPG is invironmentally generated. Many short trips. I've noticed this before, water dripping out of the lower vent hole in the muffler and soot on the lower half of the tail pipe. The water dripping out of the muffler tells me that it's not up to a high enough temp to boil off all the water generated by burning gasoline, approx 1.5 gal H2O/1 gal of gas, some of the water condenses in the muffler and drips out. The ICE never really gets up to max temp with these short trips and runs rich. Longer trips on the freeway, I don't notice this as the ICE is on most of the time and the system does get up to temp. Attached are two pictures that show the soot and drips. This was after a short three stop, three mile trip that took one half hour. Tail pipe soot. Water on ground dripping out of muffler.

The ICE will heat up very fast due to the fact that the ICE has a Energy Recapture Manifold. I helps warm up the ICE by recirculating coolant through the exhaust manifold. I was wondering why my 2013 FFH was getting cabin heat much faster than my 2010 FFH. Heating the coolant using the exhaust manifold decreases the length of time the engine has to run and will save fuel.
  10. I have used the search box many times and there have been times where I couldn't remember the necessary/correct words and came up with nothing. Hybridbear did a lot of work here and it was more or less a heartfelt thank you.
  11. Thank you Hybridbear, This will help the, where did I read that before crowd, including me.

This is the same route to the store as above. This hypermiling for short distances can be fun.

This was in heavy traffic on Los Angeles surface streets. This I can live with.

I got it, Hybridbear borrows that beautiful #261 4-8-4 Loco and Tender and has found a way to harness the 110V power to have it assist pulling the FFH. Way to go Hybridbear.

  17. When looking at a magnetic hand held compass you can see the north arrow pointer, no problem. When looking at a ball compass you can't see the North arrow pointer, so the ball compass is showing the heading (the direction your going). Think of it this way, when driving West, yes the compass shows N on the left, stop the car safely, get out and look North through the drivers window, glance at the compass and it will be telling you North is straight through the passenger side with West being on your left. Another way to look at it the passenger door becomes the North arrow pointer. Hope this helps.
  18. I ordered a VG Antenna in Ruby Red and all I gave them in an email was the paint code, Ford RR. It's been installed and looks great. The color match was right on.

I know it's only 1.5 miles but I really tried to get the best mileage. There are 6 stop signs between home and the store. Every stop was a planned event, every acceleration from the stop sign was a planned event. Quite frankly the people getting those high mileage numbers must be the most patient individuals ever. If I drove this way every day I would be suffering from PTSD in no time flat. Kudos to those who are getting the great short mileage numbers on a regular basis. It was 9:00pm and the traffic was nonexistant, so there was no one behind me, pushing me along.

That wheel can be repaired...$200 max. I ran a wheel into a curb I thought was unrepairable. You can't tell where the repair was made. If that's the 18 (Good Year LS2, 235/R45-18) inch tire don't pay more than $110 for it. I punctured a tire the first month and that's what I paid for it.
  21. I would run Goo Gone around the base and let it it sit for awhile. It'll probably just slide off. You'll need to get another gasket if you intend to use the antenna again. I just finished my installation, it looks great. Reception hasn't changed. BTW, the color match was perfect. Just a little worried about using a car wash. The one I use doesn't have rotary brushes just long soft tendrils. It's called "Auto Hand" Wash. I've used this car wash for over 20 years and haven't noticed any scratches or other damage. My Sterling Gray 2010 FFH looked great after 3 years. I was just wondering if the antenna was secure enough to withstand this type of washing?

Took a short trip from LAX to Santa Clarita today. The following shots are going and comming, at 09:00 and 13:30 respectively. A/C on both directions. Outside temp hi 70"s F. ACC set at 65 MPH. Typical LA traffic in the morning stop and go between LAX and the 10 FWY, then clear to Santa Clarita. On the way home traffic clear from SC to LAX. The thing is this, it's the same average mileage that I got from my 3 years of driving to work in SC with my 2010 FFH, daily 41.25 MPG. With my 2010 I didn't use CC as it was confventional, just too much hassle in LA traffic the ACC is a great advantage. The ACC holds the speed going downhill by applying brakes, where the 2010 using CC just keep speeding up going down steep hills. Going to SC is generally up hill and back to LAX is downhill the difference in MPG. I know one time doesn't make an average but the same numbers as my 2010, just too much a coincidence, maybe not. I have a feeling when this MPG thing is all worked out we'll find out that it's the individual driving syles/habbits that will be the tell all. I know when I go to Home Depot, when not in a hurry my mpg is 42. When I'm in a hurry and need something fast and need to get back home, my MPG is 29. Just my thoughts.
  23. I just checked the three nozzles on my FFH and they are a fixed wide spray, much like lawn sprinkler nozzles. One square hole putting out a fan shaped spray. I remember the older style nozzles where you could put a straight pin in the hole and move it to where the spray needed to be.
