Ah, Dragon Software. I used to love to hate installing and help get that piece of crap product running for workers. It has improved a lot, but really, the power of the PCs today have a lot to do with it. Even Microsoft has a pretty decent version built into Office.

My wife has washed a car once that I remember, and that was at a drive thru. She does like to cut the lawn tho!

What did you drive before getting your FFH?

I think of K as Kilo and M as in roman numeral for 1000. Guess I should stick to K, or use the zeros.- 119 replies

Car and Driver had a good one recently-- http://www.caranddriver.com/search/all/EPA%20testing Or just search for "EPA tests" on their site. I don't feel cheated, because I realize that a car of this size, with the ride quality and features, is not like some other hybrids, and I bought it as much for those things as for mileage. That being said, I am averaging 40 mpg consistently in town, and have hit stretches of over 50mpg. I am now fully committed to driving a hybrid when I replace the FFH.

What I like about the FFH Forums
dalesky replied to HenryVIII's topic in Lounge - Off Topic Discussion
I think, since this car is based on a global platform, actually the Mondeo, it is not really a "new" car. Ford has put a lot marbles into this one to set a standard for a "large" car, by European standards at least. Here in the US this car is competing in the very important segment of family sedans. It's a tough segment to compete in. These facts gave me confidence that the car would be a keeper. That, and the almost universal high reviews by industry testers. We, as FFH buyers are parsing things a little more, by purchasing a hybrid. 2nd gen, but still, pretty new stuff. So, I agree and am impressed also with this first year model, and how much they got right. I have mostly bought new cars in my life, and this one is as goodas any, and better than some on initial quality. From what we post here that seems to be true for many of us. -

I love the auto wiper feature that turns on the lights and wipers when and if it rains. Best auto feature ever! It was raining here today. I also like the washer feature, that runs the wipers 3 times, waits, then runs them once more to catch any drips. Who thinks of this stuff!

Did you get the toaster oven and coffee maker option? One member thought I said I paid over 45,000 for mine (my fault for not being clear) so maybe if you get all the options you could pay over 40 thou. Congrats, and try not to wear yourself out polishing it now.

Whoo Hoo! What kind of hybrid is that? I like it!

I only have just under 700 mi now, but from the start I have averaged 40.1MPG as of yesterday. I have filled the tank twice, and the dealer filled it once. I have not been conscious of using any break in procedures, but I have not yet exceeded 60MPG either. I am trying to get good mileage, and consciously start slower, use the eco cruise as much as possible, and coast whenever possible as I approach stop lights.

Nice! I see what you mean about the gravel driveway. What a bummer about the accident. Always wondered if that ever happens. -
Cool! Thanks for starting this. Come on SC members- log in!

Great that you are a convert. To be fair, I think Ford had something different in mind than another Prius, or that Honda attempt. Good looks, great driving experience, enjoyable handling and quiet- plus, better mileage than many of those really tiny 2 and 4 door minis. Welcome and keep your eyes on the road, if possible- hahaa.

So you didn't want to start looking at a $40,000 car? With many of the options we put on our FFH's, at least on mine, the price is a tad over $45M. Of course I don't have the genuine bamboo trim. Damn!- 119 replies

I didn't even mention clay bars. I also didn't say anything about not using Zaino. Use what you like. I just wrote about what I have used, and how I now feel that a polymer finish protector (as opposed to traditional wax) is the way I am going. My research shows that polymer products are best in many ways. Can't complain about carnuba for dark finishes, but it does not give long lasting protection. If you like waxing more often or just like the way it makes your vehicle look, use it. I have even layered it, and been very impressed as well. I feel that with the FFH I have evolved to using what is considered (by testing) to be the products best suited to preserving the finish on my new car. Kind of 6 of one and half a dozen of the other as far as what brand you use. I know both Zaine and Meguiar's have great reputations.

Got to agree with everyone. I do most of my driving in town, that is, at speeds averaging under 60. I am now getting a flat 40mpg average doing that. What's not to like? Sure, some trips I can get over 50MPG, but the average over the last 4+ weeks is excellent. Coupled with the comfort, features and fun to drive quotient, this is a keeper. Let's say I travel to Florida, about an 8 hour trip from here. I can take freeway much of the way. Cars will be passing me doing well over 80. I can drive 70 or close to it. OK, then I get to whatever area I am going to. I stay there for 1 to 2 weeks. While there I am driving mostly local streets, and once again getting the mileage I bought the car for. Seems good to me. Just wanted to point out that one CAN, but doesn't have to, drive under the posted speed of 70. Just a thought

I first used the Mequiar's carnuba product on my father-in-laws car in Phoenix Arizona. Very dry and hot there. It brought the finish back on an old Accord, and kept it shiny like nothing I have used. He use to brag on the car to anyone he met. It lasted a long time too. I mean a really long time. I have also used it on my cars in SC. While it can shine up the car like crazy, it is not "easy" to use, and it does not last as long as a polymer. However, it does give a deep shine, but swirls can be an issue. With polymer it is easy to put in, protects like nothing else, can be layered, and will not cause swirly marks. Note that Zaino is polymer based, giving further credence to using a polymer. I see no reason to use both. I am now using up any of my actual wax polishes, and will in the future only use polymer. I seem to recall using a polymer system of waxing and sealing on a VC Golf many years ago. No idea of what it was but it worked very well in harsh Winter conditions in Minnesota. Just my 50 cents worth

Wow, thanks for the good info. Should have known Meguiar's would have the product I need! And, I love buying crap on Amazon. I think I have two orders in the pipeline now. May have to order more stuff from mequiar's, now that I looked around on their site. I think I found the item- Quick interior Detailer Cleaner. Comes in a spray bottle, costs $4, and here's a quote from a user: “The product works great for the dash, radio face, and works well on my OEM navigation screen. ” Hello, my name is Dale, and I have an Amazon problem. Thanks again

How does blind spot monitoring work.

And, it is useful for early warning if missiles are incoming to take you out. I hooked up a special radar screen to keep track of the missiles. Yes, it is distracting when driving, but what is worse, hitting someone, or getting hit yourself by a missile? I think I made my point! -
Not sure I am getting your concern. MF towels are sold as being best for car care in most auto stores and auto departments. Also, they are often part of a kit sold by car wax companies (and those making polymer finish products), or are recommended by them for use with their products. They are not going to harm your vehicle's finish if they are clean and don't get embedded with any grime or grit. I have not had any issues with mine, except that over time they will lose their 'loft' or softness. when that happens, or if they pick up grime that won't wash out, just don't use them for the exterior. They are the only thing I have used or years, and my Mustang's finish is amazing. Just keep them clean, they will serve you well. I think acdii was just warning that they can pick up dirt that doesn't get washed out. When I polish my cars, with either wax or polymer, I put the product on with an old t shirt. I only use clean new pieces of shirt. I wet it, wring it out, and turn it frequently. Once the wax has dried I use a clean MF towel, again turning it frequently.
