Just another example on the forum of why the spare is necessary. Sorry it happened, but it looks repairable at least. When I was talking to the service man at Ford he agreed that you do not want to use that goo in your tires to limp home.

Tips for improving up hill drives?
dalesky replied to halfelite's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
OK, OK, let me settle this- It was Colonel Mustard, in the library, with Miss Scarlet and the rope, plus Professor Plum and the lead pipe in the study, while Reverend Green had the pistol in the kitchen. Clear? -
Fusion Hybrid Mobility Kit - The Good, Bad and Ugly
dalesky replied to Fastronaut's topic in Wheels & Tires
Took my Nissan dealer less than a week to get in a brand new tire for me. Ford had the wheel in 3 days, I had it mounted, balanced and fully inflated for a total of just under $300. Peace of mind= Priceless Fits perfectly in the trunk opening occupied by the big foam thingy, which now resides in my trash can. -
Of course, most likely they don't have to brake on a curve with the Fusion, unlike the top heavy garage sized SUVs that always do. In fact, my wife (aka back seat driver) asks me to brake when going around things like roundabouts, which I like to move through without slowing if they are clear. I mean, what's the point of having good handling if you can't enjoy it once in a while. Oh wait- " driving isn't supposed to be fun"

USB stick for music playback

Yikes! 30 TB at home? That's a bunch. I have a number of different portable drives, including one that just plugs into my HP desktop tower, that I leave in. Also have some reclaimed laptop HDs that I put in USB carriers and those are quick and easy to run. Must be nice to have everything in one server. -
Very nice! Thanks. Look a lot like my grey ones in my black interior.

I am definitely seeing some differences, mainly that it goes into EV mode more easily, and stays there. I am also getting better city mileage, with over 50 being easier to get for trips of 10 or more miles. I almost always auto start the car as I am walking up to it, with groceries or other shopping items, and that doesn't seem to be noticeable to the MPG. I did get a letter from Ford stating there was another enhancement, now to the SYNC system. It is for software version 3.6, which I may have already. Have to check. I would rather not bring it in again to the dealer. The letter said future updates will also be available via download by using a USB drive. Not sure if I want it, and my phones work great already. In fact, we were on a call when we got into the car, and the car just picked up the call and put it thru SYNC automatically! Pretty impressive.

Today the Morning Joe show was filmed in the Ford Flat Rock assembly plant, outside Detroit. Ford has made a commitment to bring many jobs back to the U.S. and to expand their Fusion production in America. That's a good thing!

Just picked up my 2013 FFH Titanium - Bye Bye 2013 Prius
dalesky replied to millerliteguy's topic in Welcome!
Ah, the Twin Cities can only mean Mpls/St. Paul. Been there, done that, and am now happy as a clam (fresh oysters here too) in South Cackalacky. Heat and Humidity? Bring it on! -
I agree with the Sonata remark, and the Kia Optima is another nice looking sedan. Yes, the Avalon is nice, but it still doesn't match the handling of many others of similar size. The interior on our Fusions matches it any day

Nice report, thanks! I have been meaning to try a key drive, and this will encourage me. When you copy songs over which software do you use? Can you just drag and drop? -
Just picked up my 2013 FFH Titanium - Bye Bye 2013 Prius
dalesky replied to millerliteguy's topic in Welcome!
Not to offend anyone, but the Prius is not a car that inspires because of its styling. Really not fair to even compare them to a Fusion. I just felt there were too many compromises with owning one. Luckily, there are now alternatives in the segment, such as Camry and others. -
Welcome from another Ice Storm owner. Can't say enough about how this unusual color stands out. Big bonus that it doesn't show dirt, tho I do like to keep it clean. Get a nice front window cover and some window tinting and you won't be bothered with heat gain. There is another one in my neighborhood, which was a nice surprise.

Just read an interesting report linked from Yahoo's front page to a Bloomberg article about Ford boosting it's capacity for making Fusions. Here is the link, and a short excerpt follows: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-08-25/ford-fusion-output-boost-tests-2-300-premium-over-camry.html?cmpid=yhoo The Fusion has prompted Toyota to acknowledge the challenge it faces to maintain leadership for its Camry sedan, which has reigned as the top-selling U.S. passenger car for 11 years and 15 of the last 16. “It is true that rival carmakers have come out with very competitive models in the segment, and that competition in the U.S. mid-size sedan segment is becoming fiercer,” Nobuyori Kodaira, a Toyota executive vice president, said last week in Tokyo. “What we need to do is to come out with even more competitive models.” The additional production from Flat Rock could allow Ford to stretch for as much as 450,000 units of combined annual Fusion output from the Michigan factory and its Hermosillo plant inMexico, said Jeff Schuster, an analyst for LMC Automotive. The researcher estimates that Toyota has capacity in North America to build about 475,000 Camrys per year, while Honda can assemble about 450,000 Accords. LMC forecasts Ford making about 350,000 to 360,000 Fusions this year, Schuster said.

That ,manual sometimes reminds me of one for a very complicated reciever/amplifier. It does have a lot of good info, but man, finding it can be a bear.

In fact, a number of manufacturers do make diesel minivans, and even Chrysler has many of their large SUVs available with diesels. Unfortunately getting and driving one means relocating to Europe. Only VW has the brass to build a diesel (affordable to most) family sedan. That too is based on their European models. Oh, and then we would need to change the price gouging for diesel fuel in most parts of this country. It would seem to be a no brainer, but...

Yep, here in South Cackalacky the gas is generally the lowest in the nation. Right next door, in N. Caroline, quite a bit higher.

Front license plate suggestions..
dalesky replied to Eddie Sessum's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
There was miscommunication between the dealer and my wife when the car was being prepped, so it had the holes drilled and the advertising plate was on it. I took it off and found some chrome covers used for hiding bolts when mounting license plate covers. I left the two bolts in, and just glued the chrome covers over them. Looks good, and kind of matches the chrome of the grill. Best I could do! -
Seat Memory and Cabin Wind Noise
dalesky replied to blinkstafoo182's topic in Interior Trim, Seats, Seat Belts & Covers
Try setting both positions in seat memory. Look At the seals around the doors for any damage and also the window seals. Mine is very quiet, and noticeably better than my last sedan. -
I haven't had any negative reaction, but when I mention mileage I get a lot of positive responses. I usually don't talk about mileage unless someone asks me. I think a lot of folks don't think we should conserve. Try to find a builder in many states who only build energy efficient houses.
