Fusion Hybrid Named "Best Hybrid Car For the Money"
HenryVIII replied to hybridbear's topic in News & Reviews
Paid off! -
I saw a Tesla meet at a restaurant. I typically see at least 1 on my commute every day.

Pulled up next to a Fusion Hybrid (Ginger I believe) on my way home. I noticed the passenger checking out my car furiously. I did my "show off" jack rabbit launch off the light and proceeded to cruise from there. Then I noticed them kinda give chase and follow behind me. Love the Fusion love! lol

2014 FFH Titanium 1 Week Review
HenryVIII replied to Howie411's topic in Lounge - Fusion Hybrid Talk
Exactly. You HAVE to get the Active Park Assist option to get the front sensors. To be more accurate and go way beyond what I was trying to say, and to satisfy Waldo's inherit use of specifics, adding the Active Park Assist OPTION allows one to utilize the front sensors for other things besides parallel- park assist. Examples of using the front sensors are front-parking garage parking (Hey no more tennis balls hanging from your garage!), driving in tight spaces such as parking garages, alley ways, cities in general, etc. I'm just trying to help a fellow Fusion member out and show them what the options that they paid for can do to help provide value and usefulness. A $1000 option that appears to be only useful when parallel parking seems almost like a total waste. However, a $1000 option that provide parallel parking assist AND allows you to utilize the included front sensors for other driving scenarios makes the option that much more appealing. -
I "REALLY" hate cold weather, What to expect in MPG.
HenryVIII replied to acdii's topic in Fuel Mileage
I've been informed about this. I'm keeping track of what happens with the K&N. Apparently Air Raid has or is developing a filter that's similar to the factory filter but allows higher velocity air flow with lower micron filtering. I might just go back to stock for the winter and spring, where it's needed most. Good to know about the AEM, thanks! -
Couldn't tell you, I wasn't the one flooring it... ;)

2014 FFH Titanium 1 Week Review

Congrats! One thing that people tend to overlook regard the Active Park Assist feature, is the ability to use the front sensors full time. This is great for just garage parking or close quarters parking in general. Since you're in the Northern VA area, I'm sure you're familiar with close quarters parking and tight garage parking spaces. -

I noticed a drop in fuel efficiency as well. Then I installed a K&N replacement panel filter. MPGs have gone back up (Indicated, I'm still on my first tank on it). So far this might be a viable option for FFH member. Not sure if K&N has a replacement filter for you guys yet. If not they should! -
If you own a gen 1 Fusion Hybrid trying to play, "I'm the Alpha male so I gotta be in front of you" while on the 2 lane on-ramp against a 2.0L EcoBoost AWD Fusion, you might be wasting fuel.

My car sits in a parking lot at the National Institutes of Health in a fairly big area. Judging by some of the looks of passers walking by, I think that I may have helped Ford out.

This. You can pick up a used iPhone for fairly cheap. Pick up a used 4s or maybe even a 5 depending on your budget. That way you shouldn't have to worry about your plan. Well hopefully.

It's pretty clear why more hybrids aren't being sold

Or a split AWD setup, V6 FWD or RWD with electric assisted RWD or FWD. -

I didn't know the transmission setup was bad on the Q50 hybrid. It's an evolving process. In due time it'll get perfected. -
Consumer Reports reliability reports
HenryVIII replied to djminfll's topic in Lounge - Off Topic Discussion
I don't rely on consumer reports. I perform my own research and come to my own conclusions. Fact is MFT, as buggy as it has been, is covered under a 5 year warranty, is updateable and can be learned. I LOVE the touch sensitive buttons. After all, they're on tablets and smartphones now right? -

Same here. I may have purchased a Q50 hybrid. Have power and the fuel efficiency of a compact car? Yes please! Oh well. This is a pretty valid argument. Let's visit the opposite end of the spectrum. Tesla. Tesla offers different options in battery and electric motor. Take the P85 option. Do you "need" to have a 0-60mph time of 4.2 seconds? Wouldn't the 5.4 second 0-60 mph time of the 65 and 85 kW battery option suffice? After all, all you're doing is "wasting battery charge". Which brings me to my point. It's not all about the numbers. Not everyone is performing calculations, having their budgets on spreadsheets or counting beans. Most people also factor in something that cannot be measured by any mathmatical means, smiles per gallon (or in Tesla's case smiles per charge). Then there's another point that was brought up on the 2G Fusions forum. What's the first car you think of when you hear Hybrid (Besides the FFH over here lol)? The Prius. Not everyone is fond of the Prius. It has gotten a social stigma of being the "evironmentalist's ego show boat of choice" name on it, even if it saves a lot of money for gas for people who just want to maintain a low gas budget. Some people don't wish to be associated with that kind of a stigma. It'll work it's way out, but it's not all about the numbers for a lot of people which is my point. Things will eventually change, Hybrid (and Electric) vehicles will eventually improve even further and we will get better vehicles selections. Thank goodness for choices now! -
Invisible Bra (Rock Chip protection) on Fusion?
HenryVIII replied to wacevedo's topic in Accessories & Modifications
I just got one installed. I'll be doing a lot of highway commuting in the months to come so I figured it would be prudent planning to help preserve the front bumper. -
Good. The Smart car was an automotive fashion fad in the late 2000s. When I see one commuting around all I can do is LOL. I got similar mileage in my freaking Corolla and had easily double the space.
-
I saw that commercial too, along with the "Consierge" commercial. Lincoln is doing a good job playing to its strengths. Now they just need more lineup.
-
I don't like the add-on looking screen. Looks like such and afterthought unlike our Fusions. It is one sexy looking car for what it is though. And if I'm not mistaken it's in the compact car segment as well.

No need to be defensive about what I said. I'm referring to hybrids in general. I was making a point where buyers simply overlook hybrids for that point. Remember, I was very close to buying a FFH, but decided that because I'm merging 2 vehicles (1 fun car and one boring as hell Toyota Corolla) the Fusion Ti AWD fit that bill better. I have fun in my car and I pick and choose where I want to have fun with it. But not right now, too many deer out here at the moment. I've had FFHs blow past me on the highway because I usually drive the speed limit and dirve in the right lane. Here's a few other reasons why hybrid vehicles are still not as popular. They are still too expensive (compared to their base model counterparts)Adds a lot more complexity to the vehicle that some people don't want to be bothered withNot enough aftermarket powertrain infrastructureNot enough charging station infrastructureCost of battery replacement - remember, it WILL fail - but that's much down the linePeople are still skepticalToo many compromises in some cases for interior space.People are slow to change and generally stick with what's safeThe Prius hybrid "eco-low-coefficent-of-friction-max-efficiency" design has run its course and is dated. People agree with me. Where I live where hybrids have a major distinct advantage over their all-gas powered counterparts (2 major beltways and several highways that link them with plenty of traffic), I still see plenty of 2.5L base model, and 1.5/1.6L 2G Fusions and all gas vehicles. And I've seen a LOT of 2G Fusions around here. Maybe there are people that do not want to compromise on trunk space... Cars like the FFH are making driving a hybrid more fun. It'll take time but it'll get there. Regarding commercials, slow doesn't sell. That's why companies like Ford choose to advertise MPG numbers. Because those that are interested mostly in MPG will gravitate to it and be sold on that alone. -

I'll add another one, they are relatively slow and still have some drawbacks that can counteract it's positives. I would love to see a higher hp hybrid sedan. -
Looking for an LRR 19" tire for your Ti wheels? Look no further
HenryVIII replied to HenryVIII's topic in Wheels & Tires
That's not that bad considering the MKZ hybrid gets about 45 mpg combined. You're pretty much there. Yeah 19 inch tires are not cheap. However, as this tire size gets more popular, hopefully the price will come down. Still have your factory 18 inch wheels? -
Have any of you all noticed improvements in fuel efficiency between different brands of gas? My friend has been running Sunoco in his F-150 and he's said that he gets the best fuel efficiency using Sunoco gas in the Mid-Atlantic area. I just want to see if other people are noticing improvement in performance and mileage between different brands of gas as well. Since different brands of gas do make a difference (usually additives and such) in both performance and fuel economy. Thanks for your input!

It's a good thing that they complained to Ford. However, it's unrealistic for owners to believe that there was going to be a fix right away. These things take time, unless it's a mass error on Ford's part. Given the number of Gen 2 Hybrid owners that don't have issues lends to Ford's favor. Ford has to gather data, find specific issues that are wrong and provide the correct fix. It takes time, plain and simple. And now there's a fix for it. Kudos to Ford for providing a fix.
