Sorry Ford, I Guess I will be moving on

The more I use Sync, the less I like it.

My hopes were high when Ford announced they were looking into CarPlay. Well, now it appears Ford will be the last to get on the bandwagon.

For me, my next car will apparently not be a Ford product, despite all other things being ok. There are plenty of other cars that compete with Ford on most aspects, for me the infotainment is a big deal with 3+ hours per day in my buggy.

Oh well, it WAS a nice ride.

I'm hoping they jump to Android Auto

http://www.android.com/auto/

EDIT: Looks like Ford is one of the carmakers slated to use it.

That's awesome. I truly hope they integrate google maps/navigation with auto update and traffic. I have my concerns that while android auto may be able to produce all the features, automakers might be able to pick and choose which ones to implement.

I don't have a problem with sync or MFT/MLT. I honestly can't understand the complaints about them. :kookie:

Same here. I plug my phone into USB, start Pandora and that's it. Other than having to reach for the phone to thumb down something, I dont have any issues with MFT/MLT. Compared to the crap that Toyota has in their cars, I will take MFT/MLT over it any day. If Applink would get added then I would no longer have anything to complain about.

Not all phones can connect USB. MFT tells me to disconnect it, as if it's about to get rude with me. But to have google maps vs. some other map software is huge. If you haven't tried it, just know it's like comparing a mud hut to a sky scraper. It's always up to date and traffic reporting is always right.

Not to start an argument between Andriod and iOS or whatever MS is trying but a few month ago I bought a Galaxy Tab 3 with Andriod 4.1.2.

Yes there are big advantage like being able to use USB and additional SD cards but from a UI point of few the iOS is by far simpler to use.

It's going to be interesting to see what the will do with the rest of car stuff like audio / climate / phone.

I don't have a problem with the MFT interface/performance after v3.6, however the GPS did majorly screw up twice in 2 weeks.

The only problem I have with MFT is that no matter how clearly I speak, the system does not understand me.

Examples:

1. I say "CLIMATE", then "72 degrees", and it asks, "Did you say 82 degrees?" Really? Do SEVENTY and EIGHTY sound similar?

2. I was trying to find a local "MEDICAL SUPPLY STORE" to get a knee brace for my stepson who dislocated his knee, and it asked, "Did you say BEST BUY?" I said, "NO, Medical Supply Store", it asked me "Did you say CITGO station?" Really? Do MEDICAL SUPPLY STORE and CITGO STATION sound anything alike?

3. When I try to call my dad, if I say "CALL DAD HOME", it says "Calling JANET HOME"; so I changed his name in my phone to MORTY HOME, and it says "Calling Michael Home". WTF, I'll just dial it myself, or let Siri do it for me.

Thank you for this. My apologies, but I was belly laughing. :)

I, too, have had my own arguments with her (I say "Call Mom", she says "Tuning to Indie"), but your descriptions are priceless!

Much of this depends on the amount of "feed back" you have your navigation set for. If you say, "CLIMATE", then "72 degrees" it is supposed to affirm what you spoke. Try reducing the amount of feed back you want and you will see a difference. It's in the navigation settings.

Let's clear something up here... SYNC is not the same as MFT/MLT. The OP was complaining about how SYNC works, or in his case, doesn't work. Don't blame MFT or MLT for not recognizing SYNC voice commands. They are two different animals. Of course, if the OP really meant to post about MFT issues, then we can blame him for the confusion! ;)

MFT and Sync are the same animal. It was Ford's previous systems (like the one in the 2010-2012 Fusion) where they were separate systems that had separate voice recognition software. The MFT system processes all voice commands through the same software.

Me three. It's not perfect but it's pretty good. I don't get all the complaining. I think that most of the complainers are ppl that don't understand how to use the system. It's so advanced that they think they should be able to have a conversation with it as if it were a human and that MFT will understand them. That simply isn't true. If you want it to understand, you must use the programmed phrasing.

The only problem I have with MFT is that no matter how clearly I speak, the system does not understand me.

Examples:

1. I say "CLIMATE", then "72 degrees", and it asks, "Did you say 82 degrees?" Really? Do SEVENTY and EIGHTY sound similar?

I also found your descriptions hilarious. I find that with windows open and more wind noise the system doesn't understand me as well. I've found that you need to speak slowly and enunciate clearly to get it to understand. If the system mispronounces a certain name then you must mispronounce the name otherwise it will not understand you.

Although, I find that Siri is much harder for me to use than MFT. MFT has a published list of phrases that the system will understand. Siri can do a lot more but never seems to be able to do what I want. Other than being able to compose text message replies hands-free while I'm driving I find Siri rather useless. And her understanding of what I want to say in text message replies is terrible.

Wrong! You can have a Fusion with Sync, but no MFT. You can have a Fusion with Sync and MFT. Not the same thing at all. Sync is the voice recognition, not the MFT system.

MFT is an extension of Sync. They use the same systems for voice recognition. Think of MFT as an addon module, nav adds onto the addon module. They all use the same basic control module though for voice recognition. Think of MFT as the graphical interface, or GUI for Sync.

No your wrong! (Hey, I just spent the week on vacation with my kids...)

The non-MFT Sync system is a totally different system than the MFT system. MFT is not an add-on to Sync, it is one and the same integrated system. The Sync commands are just a subset of the commands processed by the MFT system.

The Fusions that come with Sync and not MFT still use basically the same Sync ""Gen 1" system that started in the 2008 Focus. Even the 2010-12 Fusion used that same "Gen 1" system as an "add-on" to the Clarion provided Nav system (which had it's own separate voice recognition system). But the MFT is "Gen 2", an all new fully integrated system.

This is why the Sync system in the non-MFT Fusion can't control the radio or climate system, because it can only process "Sync" commands.

Great way it describe it acdii!

Sync is VOICE RECOGNITION, not MFT. Period! See acdii response above. I'm done. Edited by SteveB_TX

Hi djminfll,

I always recommend making sure you're running the latest software version available from: www.Support.Ford.com if you're having voice recognition issues. If the examples that you described above only happen every once in a while, I don't recommend doing too much troubleshooting. If it happens every time you use voice commands, there are a few things you can do. Adding a last name to your phonebook contacts, for instance, will improve voice recognition through SYNC. Instead of saying CALL MORTY HOME, you would say CALL MORTY SMITH HOME (obviously changing the last name to the correct one ;)). It also helps to understand how the voice commands work. It sounds like you're saying everything correctly, but I'll post the link anyway: http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/understanding-voice-commands-sync-myford-touch I encourage you to check it out!

...(I say "Call Mom", she says "Tuning to Indie")...

Hey keybman,

You'll find some tips about how to manage your phonebook for SYNC here: http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/manage-phonebook-sync-myford-touch

It's worth taking a look to make sure your settings are optimal. :)
