That day we all fear . . .

Recommended Posts

:future:

Interesting update at 5:30 PM: I received a call from the dealer. Apparently they offloaded some train somewhere on the opposite side of the state in some rail yard and from the rail yard to trucks, all but one that is and left it on some rail car. Ended up moving the rail car and kind of forgot about it. So I guess it may have been located and now they're trying to figure out how to get it here. Oops. He said there's a good chance at this weekend, but given what's happened already, he's not making any promises. I can respect that, at least until Saturday afternoon.

I have it by way of a very helpful and reliable source that my car has been following the attached route. Now mind you, this would be the route if you drove it rather than shipped by rail so I'm sure it's quite a different route, but Google didn't offer that option so you get the road rather than the rail. Still, it doesn't change the location of each city stop it's made so far (A, B, C) except the last one which it hasn't made yet (D).

Something went seriously wrong with this shipment! Why would they ship it back down all the way down south.

I feel with you ... but like djminfll said once you sit in it and drive off the lot all waiting pain will be gone.

That's a crazy route!! Hopefully it will be delivered soon.

I'm so glad for you. I'm think that I'm still going to try and find out what happened in those 10 days cuz yeah...I don't think THAT was supposed to happen. And I think that it's important for us to always try to do and be better - all the time. So if there's a problem like this, I think that we should really work of finding the root cause of it and fixing it at the source where we can. But yay! And thank you - for buying Ford again! :o)

As of noon today, no change and no new information so I figured out a plan and started checking for other vehicles in the area. I found a couple TI versions which were about $2,700 more than what I had on order and one at the same dealer in my color, interior & options, but w/ all the TI extras. I told the sales guy that mine was last seen in GA and clearly no one knows where it is, so they can fix this today by selling me the TI at the price I was paying for the one I ordered.

He was pretty receptive and said yeah, no problem. He was certain he would have no trouble convincing his manager to eat the difference to keep the sale, particularly with what everyone has already gone through. 2 hours later, the truck rolls in with mine and he calls me. No one knows where it was, how it got there, and really had no idea it was coming for sure. Damn thing is in my garage now though.

I've already noticed a few subtle differences between the '13 & '14 in the information / menu options and MFT / Sync stuff and I will post in this thread before I close out the whole experience. I'll also have something in there about the net cost once I figure it all out.

For reference, I did the navigation upgrade myself and had the MFT / SYNC and the Fuel Module recall upgrades done at the dealership couple of weeks before I got whacked so that's my baseline. I was actually getting great mileage for that last two weeks.
  • The 1st thing I noticed in the '14 was the trip mileage. It no longer displays the gas mileage for the trip. I used to like that feature. *
  • Another difference is a setting called "Mislock" (On / Off) which re-locks the doors after 45 seconds if a door isn't opened.
  • Lastly (so far), the voice recognition is working better, particularly w/ the Navigation.
Now that it's home; the air is a bit cleaner, the temperature a bit warmer, the birds are a little more melodic, God's in his heaven, and all's right with the world.
BTW, after my side air-bag revelation, I dumped my wife's Taurus and bought a low mileage '12 Fusion SEL just for the side air-bags so I've spent $86K on Fords this year.

* Error, Not true. It's still there, but under advanced settings. alpha754293 caught me up on that one.

I'm so glad that they got the car to you. I'm still going to check on the backend here to figure what happened when it fell off the tracker cuz uhhhh....yeah....I don't think THAT was supposed to have happened. So, I want to report that back up the pipes so as to find the root cause of that and hopefully fix it at the source to prevent or minimize it from happening again.

And mislock should also be under settings -> vehicle (I think) (on your left hand cluster), so I dunno. I don't think that I've ever actually used or tried that, so we shall see. haha...I'm not even sure how that works! :D But at least you have your car now. and that's what matters! yay!

This is from my 2013 MKZ Owners Guide about Mislock. No mention of 45 seconds. I am guessing it is the same function. The only mention of the function for the 2013 FFH Owners Guide (pdf version) is about the on/off selection on the left information screen. Hmmm...

Mislock
If any door or the luggage
compartment is open, or if the hood
is open on vehicles with an anti-theft
alarm or remote start, the horn will
sound twice and the lamps will not
flash. You can enable or disable this
feature in the information display.

Should be out of the shop Wednesday sometime. I promised everyone at the collision center donuts and kolaches if they get it to me Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

Talk about bad luck. I've only had my car two days, and I already got rear-ended waiting to pull out of a parking lot today. Thankfully it doesn't look that bad, but there's no doubt the back got pushed in slightly and I'm sure the bill will come out to a couple thousand dollars. If not for the fact that the car is brand new I'd probably live with it, but for now it has ruined all the excitement I had for it and getting it fixed is the only way to start anew.

OK, I promised that when the dust settled, I'd run the numbers and figure out exactly what it cost to have my 2013 FFH totaled out and replaced by an identical 2014. I had to admit I was surprised by what I found. The number was not that bad. It felt bad. Really bad, but in the final analysis. not so. It turns out that most of what I though felt bad was actually the emotional stuff which I knew was going to be an issue, just not that much of an issue. I was wrong there too. So monetarily, I'm out $1,050. I thought it was going to be around $5,000 - $7,000 when all was said and done, but after stepping back a bit, what I really had was about $6,000 worth of emotional damage I guess. Was it worth it to go from 2013 w/ 10k miles on it to 2014 w/ 10 miles? Considering the pain in the ass factor and the stress / emotional expense, not so much.

Here's the break out (however your mileage may vary)

total

Next order of business, what's the different between the 2013 & 2014?

Warning, this will be totally unscientific and more likely a hunch or guess

on my part unless stated otherwise.

Boy, it sounds like we need to find a safer place to drive, some place without other drivers. ... Maybe Mars?

I think every state has it's own issues, but Michigan seems to be the Whitman's Sampler of bad drivers. Throw in Michigan weather and it takes defensive driving to an Olympic level.

Glad you got your new car and that you didn't lose too much money. I agree completely that the emotional stress isn't worth it though. Not to mention the cost of your time...

One thing you'll notice about the 2014 that's different is that there is no Lifetime Summary when you turn off the car. Unless that's what you were referring to that you could turn on in the settings.

So look at it this way, it only cost you .0398 cents a mile in depreciation. (makes me wish that other car magically got totaled now). And only cost $658 more to get the latest and greatest.

Michigan has some of the WORST DRIVERS EVERRRR!!!! After having driven in Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Ohio, Indiana, Illnois/Chicago, Ontario, Quebec/Montreal - a lot of those places will always say that theirs are the worst, but noo....Michigan drivers are like CONSISTENTLY worse.

And apparently, at like an annual average of 922 motor vehicle deaths, I am not surprised by that number.

And the worst thing about that is you honk at them or stuff and they look at you like YOU'RE the crazy one, YOU'RE the one that's doing something wrong. And like you have the people that will only look at the car ahead of them (instead of look at the car ahead of them AND as far as their eyes can see) so they're just constantly tailgating people.

And then the fact that you've actually READ the Michigan Vehicle Code and then when you're telling them what they're doing wrong, they're like "so you're a <<insert_thing_they're_doing_wrong>> cop now? is that it?" Well, I wouldn't HAVE to be if you drove properly!!!

Boy, it sounds like we need to find a safer place to drive, some place without other drivers. ... Maybe Mars?

They need to start nailing people for moving violations. They should like adopt a bit of the European/German fine structure. (e.g. I think that it's like a 195 Euro fine (~$275) for passing on the right.) Make it so that people are ALWAYS complaining about that it's a "money grab" (it's wouldn't be if you drove PROPERLY!).

And considering how they teach driver's ed in Michigan and stuff - it doesn't surprise me that accidents are so prevalent. I'm actually surprised that they're not even MORE prevalent than they already are.

I think every state has it's own issues, but Michigan seems to be the Whitman's Sampler of bad drivers. Throw in Michigan weather and it takes defensive driving to an Olympic level.

I try to avoid driving in Michigan during or after the first big snow storm of the season (if I can).

It doesn't??? Hmmm....that's weird/interesting. I haven't played with the 2014 FFH otherwise I'd try and find out for you and give you a list (at least as far as I can tell what's different about it).

Yeah...I'm not crazy about the vast majority of Michigan drivers. It's like all the traffic rules are merely "suggestions".

I actually have pictures of people driving on the wrong side of the road!!! (And no, it wasn't due to some other activity (like pulling a bank job or something like that). No, this was just plain inattentiveness/plain bad driving.

It's also why I couldn't buy the Prius because of the way I sit and how I sit in a car that the break-over for the rear hatch went right across the rear view mirror, blocking 80% of it, and since I drive a lot in Michigan, I would LIKE to see if I am getting rear-ended or not thank you very much. So yeah...

As always, you're incredibly thorough in your analysis, but you may have to dial back on the Red Bull just a tad. :hysterical:
