elle Report post Posted April 26, 2013 I will hit 11,000 miles on my car tomorrow, have yet to hear it. I have not heard this noise on the car I own. However, the hybrid I test drove after I placed my order did make a distinctive "clunking" sound as it began to accelerate. It was really noticeable and its absence on the car I bought was reassuring to me at the time of purchase. I do think that some of the posters above are mistaking the normal whirring and electrical sounds for this problem. Hybrids do make a number of strange sounds that are related to pumps and so forth but the clunking I heard in the test drive car was unmistakably loud and clearly coming from around the wheel wells. fusionTX Report post Posted April 26, 2013 Mine with 1800 miles does not have this issue yet. Most of my miles are ICE, as I took an 1,100 mile trip a week after getting the car, followed by two 140 mile trips. Hope it is resolved soon. Happy for this forum and all the information it provides.
Harbor Report post Posted April 26, 2013 It sounds exactly like serving a ping pong ball. I hear it all the time, in the parking garage it's really loud. I can quiet the sound to lesser levels by slowing the rate of deceleration/acceleration. I'm no expert, but to me it still feels like it's related to the engaging and disengaging of the regenerative braking system. The experts say suspension. Let's hope a fix is found soon. 1 47Minutes reacted to this
BatCat Report post Posted April 27, 2013 I made it a point of checking ours this evening with the window down and there is no noise when accelerating. We have 2.6K on it now. I rarely drive the car my wife does. I need my MKX to transport audio equipment from my repair business to the store.
topguy150 Report post Posted April 27, 2013 I had the same problem you are all discussing since I got the car in december 2012. The problem was finally fixed after I had a power train warning on my dash. I was told that they were replacing some type of cooling pump that delt with the hybrid system. after the pump was replace the clicking stopped. I told the dealer, the region service manager and the ford 800 number. told them to contact the dealer and the repair man to see what was done to solve the problem. If you can't get info from ford for the fix, contact the dealer in Naples Fl,I did not get a feeling that anyone was really concerned about solving the problem. Dond1975 Report post Posted April 29, 2013 Have had my ffh just over a month and just noticed it yesterday, about 1400mi on it. It was a bit difficult for me to hear as it's coming from the passenger side. It was getting loud towards the end of the day when starting and stopping though my passengers told me it was doing it while driving also, just not as loud. When I left for work this morning it was still doing it but not nearly as loud. Makes me wonder if heat if aggravating the problem.
Harbor Report post Posted April 29, 2013 Hello all, I've attached the sound of my FFH pulling out of my garage and popping. It's pretty loud and I can hear it even over the radio. -HarborFFH_noise.mp3 3 Diana Fis, keybman and GrySql reacted to this

Hope a fix is found soon, disturbing for new vehicle to have this issue...thanks for time to do this, your recording is excellent...
GrySql Report post Posted April 30, 2013 Hello all, I've attached the sound of my FFH pulling out of my garage and popping. It's pretty loud and I can hear it even over the radio. -HarborMine is a little different than your sound, I get two crack/pops on acceleration and two on deceleration, when the nose of the car rises at first and just as it settles at a stop. Can't hear it when slowly leaving my driveway, or any other time than the above.Yours is definitely a popping sound, like that ping pong ball sound that was described. Can I ask how you recorded that so well?
hybridbear Report post Posted April 30, 2013 Hello all, I've attached the sound of my FFH pulling out of my garage and popping. It's pretty loud and I can hear it even over the radio. -HarborThanks Harbor for the excellent recording. I hear nothing like that. My wife and I both tried listening closely yesterday while running errands in the evening with windows down and we hear nothing. The only thing I noticed is a whirring noise when we were driving in the underground parking garage at our apartment. I think that is just the electric motor
lmp180psu Report post Posted April 30, 2013 My FFH is at the dealer now getting the clicking/cracking noise looked at. Mine happens twice and sometimes 4 clicks/cracks each occurrence. I forgot to mention the hotline number that was opened a while ago. I'll let everyone know what they said. 1 erichFla reacted to this
Harbor Report post Posted April 30, 2013 (edited) No problem, this forum is a great community. Mine normally pops more than once as well, I let off the gas as soon as the first pop was heard. The second pop is normally not as loud. Maybe it's just on the other side of the car which makes it harder to hear? The whirring noise is normal. The process to record is: 1) On your iPhone, open "voice memos" which comes with the OS2) Use it to record the sound. There is a right carrot that shows info for each recording. A trim button and share button are shown.3) Press Share and email it to yourself 4) Save it to your computer and rename the m4a file to mp35) In this forum there is a "more reply options" button on the bottom right of your post. This allows you to add files or photos. I made the recording starting out in the garage as I knew the sound would be amplified back off the walls. erichFla Report post Posted April 30, 2013 (edited) See Wrong Shifter Thread #-207 for my Full Ford Dealer Report on my cracking noise. It was of NO concern to them. It's NORMAL for the Hybrids to make that noise. http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/5998-wrong-shifter/page-11?do=findComment&comment=51012 Edited April 30, 2013 by erichFla

new2fordfusion Report post Posted April 30, 2013 (edited) Hi,I basically get the same sound (when accelerating or decelerating) as the recorded clip that Harbor posted. ericFla, I saw the dealer report from your link in the other post.It says the customer issue (about the noise) and all it says is no work performed. In one of the previous post in that thread you said " 1. The clicking noise in the front of the car = Common noise made by the gas engine and the Electric motor. I LoL'ed." Is that what the dealership told you? or is it from Ford? i'm sorry if I missed anything, but is this an issue or not? If it a common noise for hybrids, why did I not notice it from first day. I only started noticing it around 1000 miles. I believe others mentioned about the same. Again, Sorry if I missed anything, but just trying to find whether we have an issue or not, or if we are all worried about nothing. GrySql Report post Posted April 30, 2013 This issue is known by Ford, Ford Engineering is working on a permanent repair for it.Supposedly they know what is causing it and have the solution in the trials/test phase, when they are confident of it's cure they will issue a TSB.That's what my Dealer Service Rep said to me and another Forum member, repeating what the Los Angeles area Ford Service Engineer told my Rep. The time frame for this repair announcement is unknown, the word the FSE used was 'soon'. The Dealer ericFla is referring to should be avoided. 1 erichFla reacted to this

No it was Joke on my part, IT IS AN ISSUE , but my Dealership says it a common noise Because they don't know what to do about it so in order to do SOMETHING they tell their customers it's nothing to worry about it's a common noise, they won't even check anything as you can see in my Official Report. I LOL'ed. I ended up talking to the Service Manager and i also filed a Customer Service complaint ( have Case Number) to Ford Corp. and the dealership Manager is going to go to the Ford Hotline and see what he can find out. He remembers another customer complaining about the front end noise and he brought that up with the Service Line Manager.Plain and simple, my dealership is full of BS and have no ideal about what's going on with their own products.I hope this helps you understand what I was trying to get across a little more clearly. Everything after the = sign is what the dealership Said. Edited May 1, 2013 by erichFla

Riggo Report post Posted May 1, 2013 I know this isn't the same issue everyone is talking about but I thought I'd throw it out there. Does anyone else get a pretty loud pop noise from their exhaust when you shut off the car? Like someone hitting metal on metal? I get a few pop sounds spaced out about 10 or 15 seconds apart or so after I shut off my car. I assume it's just the exhaust metal cooling but I've never heard that on any of my other cars before. I know for a fact it's coming from the exhaust line though. No big deal I guess, just weird.
