cracking noise

Recommended Posts

I received an Email from Ford's Quick Touch Survey wanting me to rate my Dealer. I have a great Dealer, now.

I rated my Dealer as good as they can be, considering the Ford Hotline's reluctance (or inability) to provide a fix for many problems.

In a 'Your Comment's' section I included this Forum Topic thread URL for them to read, and asked them to get off the mark and deal with this front end suspension issue that is so widespread.

Probably means nothing but I was happy to give my opinion when so many of us love these cars and they can't seem to get it right and fix them without a 'crisis' meeting in a boardroom somewhere.

The simple common sense doctrine of 'fix them and they will like us even more' thinking seems lacking, or underfunded.

I clicked the box for them to contact me if they choose, I'd like to talk to them. I'll hold my breath. ;)

Thanks, for pursuing this issue.......only real issue I have

with this vehicle, other than changing out shifter....

I've had my car back for a week now and the noise has not come back yet. Fingers crossed it'll stay that way!

On another note the "I" in FUSION on my trunk came off! Why is HYBRID one trim piece while FUSION is individual letters?

Picked up my car this afternoon. So far the noise is gone (about 15 minutes of stop and go driving). Hopefully it will stay that way! Here's what they did:

"Lift car and inspect. Tighten all front suspension bolts, torque link and axle shaft nuts. Test drive."

Anyone else get theirs fixed yet?

Does "torque link", is that the link on the steering system, anything more specific?? you may have something here....has it been a week, how many miles would you say you put on it since service done to cure noise...???thanks,

Anyone know if non hybrid version of the Fusion experiences this noise?

I gave 3 other Fusion websites a quick look using their 'Search' function, didn't find anything.

We can all agree that it would be best for Ford to get a fix on this ASAP. No wonder new cars are so expensive these days - all these parts in the trash because of a design flaw or two as they rushed production.

It took them over a month for the shifter, headliner etc let's hope we're not waiting as long.

Never never never will I buy a first year model again

- 24+ Week delay for shipping when they were already in production because of manufacturing problems

- Cracking and now thud issue that I've already been to the dealership 4 times for and makes my brand new car sound like ass

- (not me personally but) headliner issues that were so obvious

- terrible winter MPG and they don't even close the flaps when its cold

I like my car and all but Ford =

They replaced the axle on our car. Not sure exactly what parts specifically were replaced because they didn't close out the ticket and give us the paperwork because the door trim piece is still back ordered from Ford. I still have never heard this clicking noise, but the steering thunk that we do have when reversing, turning the wheel and braking has returned and is now louder than ever before since they replaced the axle.

Maybe I just haven't heard the "cracking noise" because it's mostly been so cold here that the windows have all been closed. Since tomorrow and this weekend are supposed to approach 70 degrees we'll certainly be driving with windows open and maybe I'll be able to hear this noise then.

Hey Guys,

New to the forum here. I started noticing the same clicking/popping noise when accelarating / decelerating in EV mode. I think the noise started at around1000 miles (currently at 1200 miles). I will be contacting my dealer as well and will let them know of the hotline number.

Hope Ford resolves this issue soon. Once you start noticing this noise, you cannot 'unnotice' it and will hear it everytime.. which is annoying and worrying :(

Makes me want one just so I can figure out what the noise is.

I think I gave some incorrect info regarding my clicking noise, what was replaced was Axle Shaft, right and left.

DG9Z-3B436-E

DG9Z-3B437-C

The noise did go away for approx 1200 miles, I checked over and over, it's returning.

I took the car for a quiet ride this morning, no air, no radio, quiet smooth road and heard the same noise, not as severe but nontheless returning. It's about the same mileage that I first heard/became aware of the clicking noise.

Update regarding the clicking noise.

I just spoke with my Service Advisor regarding the clicking noise. He tells me that Ford is aware of the clicking noise and Ford has a fix in the works. He spoke with his Field Service Engineer and was told testing was underway. They're testing different things. I'm just passing this on to provide some hope to all with this problem.

This is all I know for now. I'll update when I know more.

Thanks for update, crackling noise in my vehicle seems to be getting louder and more often and now when slowing down, in EV or ICE.....

I'm having second thoughts about buying my HiTi with this issue not being resolved. I'm supposed to pickup my car next Thursday, how bad is the sound? I think I might wait for the '14.

I wouldn't take that drastic action. Like jeff_h I have never heard this noise. We have 8900 miles on our car. The dealer claims to have heard it. We just went for a drive tonight to enjoy the warm weather (it hit 50 today, one of our first 50 degree days this spring) and I listened very carefully and didn't hear any noise

I heard it and it didnt bother me one bit. When it gets to the point that you hear it when on and off the throttle while driving, then time to worry. Since Ford is working on it, I would just keep driving, they will figure it out and get the cars repaired.

Has anyone had success recording this noise as an audio file? Maybe someone with the noise could upload it as an attachment here (if that is allowed) so that we can all hear it. Thanks

Still nice and quiet today. Hopefully the noise will not come back in a week. Also got my leather shift knob. Much nicer. "Recall" letter came today for the shift knob . . .

This seems to be the only above owner who seems to have his repaired with above service and cured crackling issue, seems to be two weeks now, Maybe your vehicle was tightened and torqued properly and do not have this issue....

I haven't recorded it but I can tell you it sounds much like a ping pong ball dropping on a table, I can only hear it with the radio off because of how quiet it is. Happens not when coming to a stop but while slowing down, then again once you take off. I can also confirm now that it is occuring in both full ICE and EV modes as I can hear it with the radio off/window down when the ice is running. Still have yet to take it to the dealership because I don't want my car being a test dummy. I was hoping to not have the luck I had with my last brand new Ford product when it came to potential transmission issues - 2000 Mercury Cougar blew the spider gears at 7,000 miles... ugh.

I blew the spiders on my F350 Dually. I guess they weren't meant to handle a full 450 HP burnout. :hammer_self:
