I am getting more like 40-42 mpg in the morning and 44-50 in the afternoon, depends on if i can time the gym crowd and lights home. Mileage is increasing as the weather gets warmer and the engine 'breaks in"for the first 1,000 miles I was getting about 32 mpg but I am up to almost 36 as I near 2,000 miles on the car. That's impressive mileage for such a short distance, looks like you've got the hang of the car. Have you tried using ET Mode or putting the coolant temp display on My View to get a feel for how warm your coolant is getting on such a short trip? Being in MN the car automatically came with one, we didn't have to request it, and there was no charge. I can't imagine that Ford would charge if someone in a southern state wanted one when they don't charge the northern states for the EBH. I'm surprised that you didn't get one automatically being in Illinois. Hahaha I love living in the snow belt though! I could never take the heat in California. Short trips are awful for gas mileage. I've noticed that even on 10-15 mile trips the engine doesn't reach normal operating temp. And that's 10-15 miles on the freeway. Driving in the city it never warms up. Even on days that we've had around 40 degrees here the engine never warms up driving in the city. On the cold days it seems to take about 20 miles on freeway driving to get the ICE up to full operating temp, but then whenever it goes into EV mode the temp drops really fast. Since our trips are almost all under 10 miles, most are under 5 miles, our gas mileage is lower. I hope that in the summer it will increase a lot because not only will the engine heat up more quickly, it also won't cool off as fast when parked.Good Info...thanks Edited April 15, 2013 by jgilliam1955 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rvlasek Report post Posted April 15, 2013 (edited) Commuted to office 3.7 miles, EV battery at 1/3 charge leaving garage, ICE kicked in after about 1/4 mile after got out alley into street, went back to EV into another 1/4 mile, TEMPERATURE AT 72 degrees here in Irving, Tx this morning. 49.7 mpg...
