No fluke. I saw pretty much the same thing on my drive to Florida. Anything past EV mode, and it pretty much stays in the low 30's. I dont know where I put my book, but I noted what the trip minder read out during speed tests over 100 mile stretches. The best it did was 40 MPG in 60* temps doing 60 MPH on ecocruise. Went downhill from there.

acdii and others with a ScanGauge or similar, do you notice that the ScanGauge shows a different speed than the speedometer? If I set the cruise for 64 (digital) the speedo (analog) shows what looks like 64, but the ScanGuage shows 62 MPH. And the car goes in and out of full EV mode like the speed is 62 MPH or lower. I wonder which is closer to being correct? And why the difference?

I've noticed that Engineering Test Mode shows a different speed than the speedometer. When I've checked the speedometer using the GPS on my phone I have found my car to be dead on accurate though... But Engineering Test Mode reads 1 MPH less than speedo shows

Yes it does. In fact to calibrate the SG I got an app for my iphone that uses the built in GPS called Speed Box. I got on the highway where its flat, set the cruise at 60 then compared the iphone readout and adjusted the SG to match it.

 

When I talked to the engineer about this, he said that is normal, there is up to a 10% variance allowed between true speed and what the dash reads out. Mine was off 2% negative. In a sense though, I put more miles on than the Odo shows, so I got an extra 400 miles out of the car.

When i was in the engineering mode, i noticed the difference between its mph readout and the speedometer as well. I observed the speedometer was about 2 mph higher than the digital readout. Might explain why it looks like i can get up to 64 mph in EV mode per the speedometer but maybe i am actually only going the published 62 mph.

FusionTX: I was late to an appointment after work yesterday and was at 75-80 mpg for most of the 20 mile trip. I got 37.8 mpg. I've done the same trip ranging from 62-68 mph and usually get 42-44 mpg when temps are between 50-62 degrees. My last trip to So. Cal. of 220 miles averaging 68-70 mph I got 38.7 mpg.

I still have my display set on Engage most of the time and I would guess I see the ICE and EV working together about 10% of the time. As is probably obvious, I don't obsess on MPG. I've never kept track of how many gallons I put in at fill-up, and I never plan on using additional electronic devices to check the accuracy of my standard instrument gages. For me, it would take away part of the joy of driving, but I realize that others get a kick out of it.

I ususlly drive in either the #2 or #1 lane on freeways. Only about 1 in 20 cars are going faster than I am. I was wondering if others have found this same phenomena when driving the freeways in Calif: when I can see that traffic is backing up about 1/2 mile or so ahead, I immediately transition to the #3 or #4 lane since 95% of the time the #1 & #2 lanes are the ones that will come to a dead stop. I always end up passing dozens of cars that just moments before were far ahead of me in the left lanes. I save a lot of wear on my brakes this way, although now I'm reducing my regeneration time. Virtually every time the slow lanes become the fast lanes in these situations.

You can also do the same thing with the GPS Test app. It's mostly an app to test the GPS functions on your phone, but also shows the speed.

Great observation B25Nut. That is so true about how lane #3 or 4 are faster in traffic. Also, driving on lane #4 gives me lots if chances to charge my battery with regenerative braking when cars merge onto the freeway. One thing about SoCal drivers is that they are stingy with their curtesy waves!

I have not posted the results yet. I am still learning how to drive the car. I am getting good results except on short trips where the engine warm up eats into the mileage. Wish it had a way to keep it in electric for short trips to the grocery store. It is about a half a mile from my house. I wonder if I could set it as a destination for EV+. Some have said if you add it to nav as an address that would work. Anyone verified that?
