Farns514 Report post Posted March 7, 2010 Just had a quick question. Picked up my 2010 Ford Fusion SE in tuxedo black. I just wanted to add the Keyless Entry that i had on my previous car. I was just wondering about the difficulty if i chose to do it myself or if i should just purchase it from the dealer and have them do it. All the Keyless Entry Pads i have seen are advertising no wiring or drilling. Anyone have any experience with this? Any input it greatly appreciated. Hi Farns. :D There is a Ford Accessory Keyless Entry Keypad which you can purchase and apply yourself. It simply sticks on with 3M tape to wherever you wish to install it. It is then programmed the same way you would program a remote control key-fob (instructions are included with the unit). You can find it on the Ford/Lincoln-Mercury Owners website on the Genuine Accessories page here: LINK: Ford Accessories However, keep in mind that the Ford Accessory keypad does not look like the factory installed keypad. And the keypad pictured in the link is the Factory keypad, which is paint matched and fits more flush than the Ford Accessory keypad.. As stated in the text description, the Ford Accessory keypad comes in textured black (it can be painted) and is a little larger/more conspicuous than the Factory keypad. But some people actually have been creative and installed it in other areas, such as the cowl area by the wipers or the inside of the gas filler flap. You can purchase it from your Dealer Parts Department or other online Ford Parts Retailers, Ebay etc.. To answer the next logical question: I do not believe that the actual Factory installed keypad (color matched and almost flush to the door-skin) can be easily added to the vehicle, as it would require drilling. Good luck. :beerchug: Edited March 7, 2010 by bbf2530
xmech2k Report post Posted March 7, 2010 If this is the same item, it's $20 cheaper than from Ford: Team Ford Parts Online Only thing is it shows for Econoline vans, but it's the same P/N as bbf2530 gives.
Farns514 Report post Posted March 8, 2010 Thanks for all your help and info! I am definitely planning on getting a color matched keyless entry pad, i've gotten too use to it from my previous car.
Grey Report post Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) If by color matched, you mean the factory installed key pad, think again. You need to buy the accessory keypad that already matches your vehicle color. If it is not glossy enough, paint over it with the black touch-up paint from the dealers parts department. I put this kit on my silver truck and left it black. It looked great. Hi alfa. :D It comes with instructions. Using a 3M-style tape, it simply sticks on the door panel (or wherever you decide to install it), and programs in the same manner as a new keyfob. No drilling or wiring needed. Good luck. :beerchug:
akirby Report post Posted May 19, 2010 Just to explain further what that product does - it's simply a modified version of the integrated key that came with your vehicle. It sends the same signal to the vehicle as if you had pressed the unlock or lock button on the key. That's why it's wireless and it's programmed the same way. This is not exactly the same as a built-in wired factory option, but it accomplishes the same goal.

con_fusion Report post Posted May 20, 2010 (edited) You can see a picture of the factory keyless entry pad in my previous post: keyless entry pad They had to replace mine because as you can see in the picture, the 1/2 button wasn't iluminated. In order to replace it, they had to remove the inside door panel to gain access. The part they replaced looked like the number pad logic board with a long connector wire. I'll see if I can update later with the exact part number. For vehicles that didn't have it when built, I was wondering if the wiring might be there in the door where the part could be connected. Not sure if the factory one is still wireless for operation or if it uses the wiring connector for the keypad and power for the lights. Of course then you'd probably have to drill into the door. :stop: Edited May 20, 2010 by con_fusion
akirby Report post Posted May 20, 2010 That is possible but not guaranteed. If the wiring is there then it can be done but does require drilling holes. But I've heard Ford has stopped putting in extra wiring where it isn't necessary.

akirby Report post Posted May 21, 2010 Now i am confused  Should i remove the inside door panel to gain access ?? No, no, no. Con-fusion (how apropos) is talking about being able to install the actual hard wired factory keyless pad which requires removing the door panel and drilling holes assuming the wiring harness is actually in the door. For the one you're considering you just stick it to the door with 3M tape.

2010 Sport Blue SEL Report post Posted May 23, 2010 I live in Saudi Arabia Why ??? :excl:You stated in an earlier post you couldn't order from the Ford website because you weren't in America. I assumed that meant Canada too because there's a Ford Canada website. I was just wondering where you and your Fusion live. Don't worry, I was just curious. Thrill23D Report post Posted August 6, 2010 I just bought this accessory today. It was a little finicky entering the personal code but otherwise really simple process. I have yet to attach it though as I haven't decided where to put it. I have a red 08 Fusion. Its definitely a little bigger than the factory installed keypad but it really isn't that bad. I'm trying to decide whether I want over the door handle where the factory installed pad would go or vertically along the window like I've seen in previous year's SUV's. I think it looks pretty good in both places. What do you guys think?
poacheggs413 Report post Posted November 21, 2010 Good Morning - does anyone know will these Key Pads work with other vehicles as well? I assume that since they're programmable in theory you could use this with any car manufacturer not just Ford right? I ask because the wife just handed over her Ford Escape lease and picked up a Honda Pilot. One of the first thing she commented on was the lack of the key-less entry keypad. Thank in advance everyone for your input on this.

Thank in advance everyone for your input on this. They only work with Ford products because it's a Ford system that uses Ford's proprietary keyless entry system. It would be possible for another mfr to make one that works with their vehicles but so far I don't know of any. The Ford unit won't work on a Pilot. Should have gotten an Edge or new Explorer instead.
poacheggs413 Report post Posted November 23, 2010 Should have gotten an Edge or new Explorer instead. Thanks Akirby, the wife is 4 months prego so when she says she want's a Honda Pilot we get a Honda Pilot :finger: I did a little digging online and couldn't find anything that is similar to this device. I might have to make a trip to my local Fast and the Furious-esque car shop and see if they have any solutions. Thanks again for the reply - have a great Thanksgiving
akirby Report post Posted November 24, 2010 Thanks Akirby, the wife is 4 months prego so when she says she want's a Honda Pilot we get a Honda Pilot :finger: Trust me I understand. And I'm sure it's now your fault that her new Pilot doesn't have a keypad. I don't know if Ford has a patent that prevents others from doing it but it does seem odd that nobody else has anything similar.
