GregMitchell Report post Posted November 10, 2009 Just got a new 2010 hybrid with the nav/sony stereo. I general, I like it a lot - to this point I've been using Satellite and a 1GB memory stick for all of my audio. I happen to have an 80gb laptop drive kicking around though, and I thought maybe I would be able to get away with using it via an enclosure like this Vantec enclosure which doesn't come with a power brick, but gets powered over USB. Has anyone done that successfully? A $15 outlay for 80gb of music in my car is a lot more attractive than buying a bigger USB flash drive.

Has anyone done that successfully? A $15 outlay for 80gb of music in my car is a lot more attractive than buying a bigger USB flash drive. I have a 2.5 inch USB 500gig hard drive hooked up to mine and it works perfect. There is one little down side though when you exceed approx 12,000 songs you loose the ability to do SYNC tracks. Just keep it under that and well you won't have any problems. OH one more thing, make sure the drive is formated FAT32. Anything other than that and I was not able to get it to work. You would think that Microsoft would be able to read its on file formates of NTFS. It will take a few minutes for it to index all of yours songs. But once it does it doesn't have to do that again unless you add or delete files. Enjoy
