acdii Report post Posted April 10, 2015 Has anyone else encountered this with their nav? When trying to put in an address, the state selection screen just sits there. I spent 5 freaking minutes last night trying to change from IL to WI so I can find highway 67. After many many punches to the screen back and forth it finally brought up the states. Other than the convenience of having it in the dash, its a POS. Last time I will ever have one! Frustrated is an understatement. I wanted to fill my tank at a gas station near my house, but in WI, and I know exactly what road it was on, but not how to get there from where I was at the time. Top it all off, there were major storms and tornado warnings all over the place.
rjent Report post Posted April 10, 2015 I agree it is a POS. I have been saying that since day one. They need to write the software so it won't "help" us so much. Punching in a two letter state code would be far easier than the "process" they require us to do. I agree, I will carefully consider whether I get another one on my next car..... they aren't cheap... Easy Rider Report post Posted April 10, 2015 That's 3 votes for POS. ;( It seems to use different "logic" for inputs that any other unit I've ever used........and it is counter-intuitive and confusing. I have found that if it won't allow the input that you WANT to do, try something different. If you have it, the zip code will usually bypass a lot of that input frustration. Waldo Report post Posted April 10, 2015 You can also turn off the "auto-fill state" setting.

Waldo, I did not know that, I will look for that option. I have always sensed that it would be easier to use if the unit didn't try to "think" for you ;)
s-one Report post Posted April 12, 2015 Agreed, POS. I literally had the thing completely crash on me. It froze and would not allow any input.. so I just said forget it and drove and the thing rebooted itself in 10 minutes while I was driving.
acdii Report post Posted April 12, 2015 Tried the zip code too that night, wouldn't allow me to enter it. All the numbers were dark. Also I just got back from Ohio, and on the trip home I confused the navigation so much that it quit working. The onramp/offramp to get to I80 from 80-94 in Indiana heading west is closed, so the detour is down I-65. When taking that ramp, it twirls around so much that the nav literally went in circles and quit. It stopped routing altogether so I lost my destination, and trip time. I swear my old Timex Sinclair had better computing power. Between this and the braking acting up, makes me wish I had gone with the Avalon instead. I know Ford wont do anything to improve the navigation, they refuse to add Applink to MFT, but I sure hope they can resolve the braking problem the car has been experiencing since December. At first I thought it was just the cold, but it's still does it, so it goes in on the 15th. If they can't I don't know what to do with it, sure don't want to have a crash because the car wouldn't stop like it should.
machoman1337 Report post Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) Agreed, POS. I literally had the thing completely crash on me. It froze and would not allow any input.. so I just said forget it and drove and the thing rebooted itself in 10 minutes while I was driving. Same here, one time it crashed by freezing on the rearview camera after I'd shifted into D. I drove for at least 5 minutes with a picture of my driveway frozen on the screen before it rebooted. A hard reset button that the driver can easily access would be very welcome. Hell, I'd pay maybe a thousand dollars to get the future QNX-based Sync system inside my car. Feature-wise I quite like the nav (compared to the old Lexuses my parents have, that is), and it has nice crisp graphics too, just that the performance sucks. My $99 USD Garmin Nuvi 50LM is superior and even tells you the exact lane you should be in for the next turn. I reserve it for rental cars though - I don't put it into my daily driver in case I absent mindedly forget to remove it when I park and end up getting my window busted (I know a few people who have lost their portable GPSes that way). As for my experience with the state/province selection - so far I have not experienced what acdii went through. Probably just luck though :( If it's any relevance, I rarely travel out of province in this car, and when I do my destination is almost guaranteed to be no further than Washington state. I know Ford wont do anything to improve the navigation Well to be fair, they have ditched the Microsoft system entirely and gone with QNX which has been proven to be superior in every way, not to mention very reliable. It does power the operating system on new BlackBerry 10 devices (which I use at work), further strengthening its credibility. If I had the cash I'd trade in for a QNX powered refreshed FFH the moment it comes out. P.S. Chryslers have been using Garmin to power their nav systems for a while now. If only we could mix and match! Edited April 13, 2015 by machoman1337
Howie411 Report post Posted April 13, 2015 my wife has an issue with her C-mAX MyFord Touch where you can't even change the state, its just greyed out. And its sporadic. Taken it to the dealership multiple times. They cant find an issue. Now they say its related to her cell phone. Reidicilous answer as I have the same phone and it doesnt happen in my car. hybridbear Report post Posted April 13, 2015 Inputting nav addresses on screen is frustrating. We always use the Sync Destinations app or voice commands.
acdii Report post Posted April 14, 2015 voice commands didnt work, would not take the state. As far as doing something with the navigation, it was meant for our current cars. Not buying another Ford any time soon.
